Through the capable handling and fast work of our own firemen and the McHenry fire department, the home was kept from burning. This was done even though both departments worked with the handicap of a lot of curious sightseers. I received a phone call later the same afternoon from Fire Chief Otto Adams, stating that the parked cars of these curious persons hindered the work of the firemen. Anyone parking a car within a block of a fire is subject to arrest. Please, if you hear a fire truck siren, use your common sense to pull to the side of the road until the equipment has passed. Every second counts when a fire is in progress. Sick List Mrs. Sue Frett was taken by ambulance last week to the Highwood hospital, where she is undergoing observation. We certainly hope she wlil be up and around real soon. when it comes to crossing streets. CARPENTIER Sccrctary of State The forthcoming observance of Independence Day will mean heavier than usual traffic on the highways. On the Fourth of July we celebrate the anniversary of ' the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But for some that day of celebration will end up as a day of tragedy because of the lives lost on our highways. If 4very motorist who takes to the road on the Fourth of July would merely heed the rules of the road there would be no tragedies. The long lines of traffic will irritate some drivers and cause others to lose their patience. The reason is obvious, school is opee again in session. Now the children start thinking about next year's vacation even though this year's vacation is still fresh in their minds. I imagine there are quite a few parents wondering if they will pass the grades alongj with their children this year or if the younger generation will teach Mom and Dad a few things. Now that most schools are in full swing, please remember to take your time when driving near a school zone. There are quite 'a few young ones who are attending school for the first time and may be a little careless The McHenry County Dry ; Cleaners are announcing this week a uniform and general price 1 increase on all dry cleaning at all plants and stores in the county. In making the step, they point j out that their prices have remained almost unchanged in the last ten-year period, making them out of line with labor costs, i which have risen 100 per cent j and materials and supply costs, I which have gone up in some cases even more. | Nearby communities to . the i north and south, they say* have had increases during this time and Chicago raised prices last year and again in 1956. happens there is every reason to believe the$ will toss the rules of the road out of the window and attempt to proceed in a hazardous manner.
