Levesque appointed a committee consisting of Allen McKim as chairman and members, Robert Smith and William Creutz. It will be their duty to map out and number streets find lots in the village to hasten door to door mail delivery. Ray McGee, postmaster, will be contacted for the necessary information and help. Catastrophe Avoided The McHenry fire department was called out last Thursday night to put out a- fire at the Nehrke residence on Fountain , Lane. The conflagration started when two wires shorted out in the electric conduit bo*. The guick response of the fire department prevented a major catastrophe. f The house is now occupied by the Misses Wells, two sisters. Ladies of the Lake The holiday season started with a wonderful party for the worhen of the community, last Thursday at the beachhouse. After a short business,, session, the evening was turned over to the committee which had worked so hard to make the party a big success. Louise Hammerstein, chairwoman, Julia Hecht ,Emma Pyritz, Ethel Myers and Betty Hammerstein had trimmed the windows of the beachhouse and the table arrangements were a thing of beauty. G^nes were played and the prizes were won by Betty Hammerstein, Viola Hands, Edith and Ethef Btendel, Louise Hammerstein, Mary Kantorski, Elizabeth Reiter, Anna Buschfeld and your reporter. Liquid refreshments of eggnog and three different wines were much enjoyed by the women, in addition to coffee, cakes, cream puffs and Christmas cookies. Two visitors, Mrs. Elaine Rogers and Ethel Brendel, joined in on the party fun. The next meeting of the club will be held Thursday Jan. 10. What A Ball ^amel! The Chicago Bears were cheered on to victory at Sunday's football game at Wrigley field, When they beat the Detroit Lions 38-21, by a loyal band, of spectators from the cbmmunity. Jean McDonald, Bob Brand (from Johnsburg), Dorie and Bill Brennan, Ray Deskis, Miss Lorraine Wollak of Lilymoor, Bob "Bing" Frisby, Ray-Blake, Rose and Eeif 'Swede" Larsen of East Loon Lake, Ruth Adams, McHenry, Ardell and Kenny Brand of Wonder Lake, Alice and Bud Cable, Lil and Dave Hansen, Chuck Ingersol and the Levesques, climbed on board the school bus, manned by Ernest Winters, a very capable driver, and headed for Chicago. Kenny' Beard provided musical accompaniement on a guitar furn i s h e d b y G e o r g e M c O u a t . W e sang loud and lustily and some of the harmony was surprisingly good! Hunger pangs were relieved by the delicious hot beef sandwiches we brought along. With the cold winds # blowing in the ball park, they tasted better than a full course meal! The girls sacrificed glamor for comfort and very few complained of the cold. The fellows were sporting fur lined parkas with hoods, and needless to say, everyone wore boots. The game was played to a capacity crowd, with many standing up for the entire afternoon, but we were fortunate in having good seats. It was a weary but happy band that boarded the bus for the return trip to the lake. Our Sympathy To Mrs. Gertrude Maxwell on the death of her father, John Howard, on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Mr. Howard had been making his home with the Maxwells and passed on after a lingering illness. Theater Party Little Joanne Reid celebrated her tenth birthday by taking her young friends to the cinema Sunday, Dec. 9. The young folks included Karen Nersted, Nancy Burg, Penny Miller, and her brother, Mickey. Mama Reid thoughtfully provided cake and ice cream to satisfy the young appetites. Top Drawer Entertainment Marge and Ed Stacknick attended a party given by Electrician's union, Local 1031, at the Union hall in Chicago last Saturday. * Some of the performers included nationally known stage and TV performers such as June Valli, Dick Shawn and Tony Bennett. The Stacknicks were properly impressed with all the acts and agreed that the show was one well worth attending. The first outside Christmas decorations were noted on the Allen McKim residence on Greenwood drive. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Frost now have theirs up, also and the brightly colored lights look so pretty at night. By this time, many more ' homes have been attractively decorated also. We hope that by this time, little Jimmy Hocin is off the sick list. The little fellow, not even a year old, had a rough time of it for more than aN week.
