J&tf UJgA&Jk* AJB - tHUMHTi This is an ideal time to say a few words about the Warriors of old MCHS. They have won three varsity games a-runnin'. And, when you say a-runnin', it fits this '57 model basketball team coached by Cliff Fulton. When those boys turn on the steam they are hard to follow. In hiany games or part of games the team has had to out-run taller opposition. Man, they cai> zoom! In recent games, somebody is always picking you up. We mean glory and outstanding performances have been passed around. In several cases it has been the man who came off the bench who was the fellow to lift the team. The Warriors won a thriller from Hebron January 22 in a nonconference game, then went on to beat Woodstock. Jim Justen led the home scoring with 24 points on 6 baskets and 12 free thrbv^s out of 16 attempts. Jim was so sharp at the free throw line that he made ten straight before mffe&ing two at thf Hose of the third quarter. Matt Eichinger's 19 points were rained on 6 baskets and 7 out of 9 shots from the tree throw spot. Ed Cepulis swooped in 8 baskets, some from impossible angles, and had. a 2-2 record on free* throws. Had Jiih Huemann had one of his usual nights; the Warriors might have pulled away to a far greater lead. But, Jim had three fouls before he could get going and it was necessary to yank him for spots when needed most. Jim came back at the start of the second half and played a big part in sparking the team to a commanding lead. McHenry held an 8-point advantage going into the second half and ran it up to 16 before the Zee-Bees could get organized. It was Dave Granger who drove in for a shot that hit the 80 mark. This pleased the crowd and Dave soon dropped in another basket to end McHenry's scoring. v The War riot's had a problem on their hands in trying to stop the league-leading" scorer, Ron Stanton. A Picture for Your Valentine Among the many happy faculties pictures possess, there's one that stands out head and shoulders-- and heart--above all the others. And that is, their ability to carry a message of love and thoughtfulness to family or friends who live too far away for frequent visits. What really started us off thinking about this was a glance at the calendar. There it was--the month of February all neatly divided into twenty-eight little boxes--and right in the middle was the day set aside to honor /good old St. Valentine, patron saint of the loved and the loving wherever they may be. Why not, we thought, suggest to our readers th?it this Valentine's Day they arm Cupid, with snapshots as well as a bow and arrow to convey their sentiments of love and friendship? And the more we thought about it, the more we liked the idea. For pictures can really be "the heart of the matter" whether your Valentine greetings are sentimental or comic--for young or old--for lovers or loved ones. What's more, your camera enters the Valentine picture in two ways--picture-taking and picturegiving. Since preparations are half the fun, you'll need your camera as much a few days before February 14th as y.ou do on the day itself. There'll be the children to snap as they concentrate on turning art work and "heart" work, lace paper and library paste into expressions of their affection. There'll be snapshots, too, of the decorations and party fare £et out before thfe guests arrive. And, of course, the fun and festivities of the party itself--whether it's just -an "excuse" for good friends to get together, a full-fledged engagement party, or a surprise shower. Pictures--anything from a set of wallet-size prints to a specially framed Enlargement--are p gift that says "Happy Valentine" more personally than a heartshaped candy box with a red satin bow. And a photographic Valentine card--using a snapshot, a red cardboard mat and a paper doily frill--doesn't need a single word to say "Will you be my Valentine?" Or try tucking a tiny picture into an old-fashioned nosegay-- it'll express your special sentiments in a very special way. And how about sending a snapshot or two along with any of the cards you buy -- especially for friends and relatives you haven't seen in a long time? --John Van Guilder EDDIE the EDUCATOR says A n Th» legislature, our supreme board of education, is in session.
