C A R P E N T I E R S : c r < t . i r y of State Many Illinois motorists have occasion to travel over the some 300 miles of divided highways In this state. The motorist driving oh such roads is presented with problems that do not usually occur while traveling over other types of highways. At many points entrance to a divided highway is made without a requirement for a stop. But the motorist should keep in mind that while a Bign for a stop has not been erected at this point he should exer- -ciss caution upon entering the highway. In some cases the driver's judgment will dictate that he come to a complete stop although the law does not require him to do so. HOT cm OLQ HEI Upon preparing to. enter a divided highway, a motorist should always be prepared to yield the right of way. In most instances signs have been posted directing the driver to do just that. Once a motorist has driven his vehicle dnto a divided'highway he must be aware of two things. FirBt, vehicles travel at a faster pace on these ;roads than on other highways. Secondly, he must resist the . normal temptation of becoming overconfident1 behind the wheel because the hazard^of vhead-on collisions is reduced and the overtaking pf slow vehicles is made less difficult. A copy of the completely new "Rul^s of the Road" booklet will be sent to you free upon request. Write to CHARLES P. CARPENTIER, Secretary of State, Spring field, Illinois. Hospital Auxiliary by Marie Schaettgen CLERGYMEN SHOULD ILE WAIVERS BY CflJDAY. APRIL 15 f1 February was a short month, but judging by the things accomplished by the auxiliary, Congress must have added many hours tp the month by special request. This fact was brought out at the March meeting of the auxiliary to the McHenry hospital. At the February meeting, there were many plans in the epibryonic stage; at the March meeting they emerged almost fully matured. Cards to be sent to patients in lieu of flowers are now on hand. They are quietly attractive and unusual in that the multicolored design is made of cancelled stamps. Anyone wishing to donate 10 the auxiliary flower fund may mail a check to Mrs. A. C. Thornton, Bayview Lane, McHenry, 111. She will send one of the cards described, bearing the donors name, to the designated patient. The card will carry an explanatory inscription. Since the hospital is unable, at the present time to accept flowers, this donation gives both the patient and donor the dual satisfaction of „ remembrance and the knowledge that the money will be used to set up a Student Nurse Scholarship Fund. The florists of the McHenry community have very generously consented to inform their patrons of the auxiliary's flower plan. If you have not yet returned your questionnaire card about guild activities and preferences, please do so now. The next general meeting of the auxiliary will be held in the community Methodist church meeting room on May 14 at 8 p.m. Our energetic ways and means committee, Mrs. "Newkirk and Mrs. Lieberson, announced that plans-for some of their projects are nearing completion. One especially important plan is for the Art fair in July. Details about this will be given later. Mrs. Cuda still needs volunteers for desk duty at the hospital. Can you help her? ^Several chairmen for the proposed guilds have already been chosen and the activity named. Miss Roe, hospital administrator, informed us that May 12-18 is National Hospital week and plans are being made for some kind of participation by our hospital. - . r . V The American Hospital association points out the importance of all hospital work.. The theme of hospital week is'^Careers that Count." Hospital week is designed to bring about a closer understanding between the community and the hospital, 'this understanding will bring rewards in mutual benefits. The auxiliary plays its part in this too. Through personal experience in hospital volunteer work members gain a more complete knowledge of the problems of a hospital'. This understanding is bound" to be shared by the community. Mrs. Stinespring, president, hopes to be able to welcome every member of the Auxiliary at the next genera] meeting--so mark your calendar for May 14th. You will be .surprised at how many of your friends and neighbors will be present at the meeting. Do come. It is a fact that the people of the nation, as a Whole, have lost much of their former admiration for the professions as a whole. Take It Easy- Take A Cab! When the weather's bad .
