Joseph X. Waynne acted as master of ceremonies. He introduced and presented each official with their certificate of election. The impressive ceremony was followed by a speech from our village president Claude F. McDermott, who advanced a program for future developments in the village. It includes a proposed recreational area to be de-.. veloped within the limits of the village, and the enforcement of all building, zoning and sanitation^ ordinances, which brought forth thunderous applause. Due to the generosity of the women in the community, the committee received an over abundance of cakes and bakery goods which were raffled "for the benefit of the library fund, netting $42. Ongyj* of the highlights qirthe evening was a presentation by Claude F. McDermott, of a beautiful plaque to Steff and Wally Szarek for their unselfish contribution to the welfare of the village of Lakemoor these many years. Wonder Lake Bible Church A large group of couples from the Wonder Lake Bible church enjoyed the gayiety of a progressive dinner on Saturday, April 27. About twenty-four guests were listed to partake of the dinner. Appetizers were served in Lakemoor at the home of Mrs. Marge Beahler. Salad was served in Wonder Lake at the Dornbush home, a whole half of fried chicken was served in Harvard at the Loshbaugh home, the dessert ended the wonderfully-lavish meal in Wonder Lake at the Swanson home. past, Lu Bitterman and present, Jen O'Leary. Pinochle Club The Pinochle club, met last week Thursday in the home of Mrs. Rita Erickson. Winners for the day were Irene Leon. Ronnie Romkowski and Ti Geiger of Duck Lake. Girl Scoots The girl scout troops in the area have been getting ready for their -mother and daughter tea, practicing their plays, songs, and dances. They have important badge work before the scout season closes. John and Julje Kraus returned last week from a trip to Sheboy- j gan. Wis., where they visited Julie's mother and sisters. During their stay they were surprised to find that the family had just buried their Grandma Yurk, age 93. Socials The socials held every Thursday evening at Wally's are still going on as usual beginning at 8:30. All are welcome to attend these socials. We love our children, please drive carefully. Clean-Up Time The leaflet you may have found in your door on Sunday really meant what it said. It read: Hello Neighbor! -- It's clean-up time, and an inspection-of the village on April 15 reveals that it is about time. There is no excuse for the filth, rubbish, cans and paper lying in piles on some lots in the village. We provide weekly pick-ups and must insist that all househblders and tenants provide themselves with the regulation 30 gallon garbage containers. Weekly inspections are to be made from now on, and a summons will be issued for all violations of the sanitary code. No second warning will be given. Clean-up week started on Friday, April 26, and extends to May 11. We will have a special pick-up on May 1 and another one on May 15. All rubbish to cilities and providing quarters for community projects. Li.I.A. In order to finish the necessary work on the shelves in the new library, the Library" Improvement association has planned a card and bunco party which is to be held on Saturday, May 25, at the Fire Community house. Within a short time, we will all benefit by the new library and it will be useful not only to adults but to children as well. Tickets can be obtained by contacting Dick Hyatt or by phoning this reporter at 594-W-2. Lucky Yon! Bet you're very happy since most of you went to your mail boxes on ^Tuesday and Wednesday last week and found those little green notices and the white ones too. Weren't they wonderful? So colorful and typed so nice. And the prices on them. Ouch. Oh, well, after Easter it's tax time and all the moaning in the world can't help. Might just as well pay up! kuxiliary On April 24, the auxiliary held their annual installation dinner at the Chapel Hill country club. About twenty members were in attendance. Mrs. Macrella Foss held the honors of installing officer. The outgoing officers were lauded for their work with the organization for the past year during which many gave of their time and effort towards this growing group of women. Timmy's actual birthday is April 29 and he received many lovely gifts and the celebration was a huge success. Tim's brothers, Jim and Kim were promised bikes at Christmas and it seems Santa forgot so the Easter bunny brought them this past Saturday and the two boys showed every<- one how to fall on them. ske and son found their Easter baskets on Easter Sunday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith of Lake Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Leon spent Easter Sunday with their son's family, Mr. and Mrs. John Leon of Berkley. v Visiting at the Leon residence last Wednesday were Mrs. Jay Smith 4nd family of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Erickson spent a day last , week in Chicago visiting Rita's mother, ' Mrs. Charles Felloes. Easter Tornadoes Mr. and Mrs. Ed J. Jinks spent the Easter weekend with their friends, Mr. arid Mrs. Cliff Chambers, at the Chambers' cottage at Necedah, ,Wit>. During their stay they tell me they witnessed several tornadoes, one of which took the life of a neighbor farmer. The farm, only live miles from their cottage. was completely demolished. Bible School The bible classes held at the Lilymoor schoolhouse are meeting every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. Anyone interested is urged to eonie and get acquainted. The Sunday school meets at 10:30 a.m. on Sundays as usual. John Nixon officiates. Any youngsters from the area are welcome to start with the group. WORM CONTROL Years of research on the problem of controlling wireworms, rootworms and white grubs in Illinois corn fields have been rewarded by the discovery of soil treatment methods that are 75 to 98 per cent effective. This report comes from John H. Bigger, an entomologist of the State Natural History survey. He recommends the use of either aldrin or heptachlor at the rate of one and one-half pounds per acre of active ingredient when the material is broadcast, or one pound per acre when it is applied in the corn rows. Hospital Auxiliary by Marie Schaettgen ' Attends Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Norman Morrison attended the wedding last week of their school chums. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Cassidy (Mary Fitzgerald) in Chicago. Tom was the last of their grammer school chums to finally tie the marital knot. Green Street PHONfi 17# "Pink Lady" seems to be the current by-word for the auxiliary to the McHenry hospital. The shoppe on Green street is gradually acquiring a stock of handmade baby articles. The sewing guild' is\ busy making these things for the shop to sell. The baking guild is planning, in the near future, to furnish the shop with a regular stock of home-made "goodies" such as cake cookies, etc. Two new co-chairmen have been added to the guild's organization. Agnes Freund is co-chairman, with Shirley Olsen for the card guild and Mrs. Robert Hanford, co-chairman with Mrs. Blanche Green for the baking guild. The auxiliary wishes to express its thanks to all of those who helped so much in getting the "Pink Lady" Shoppe ready for business. _ \ The shoppe still needs some volunteer workers. If you can spare some time please cpntact Mrs. Fred Bond at the Pink Lady shoppe. Among the many projects planned by the auxiliary, one of the most interesting is planned for May loth at the high school at 8:15 p.m. At that time, Ann Varese will present a musical review of a Broadway hit which she did recently before the Lecture- Luncheon club. Tickets are available at the Pink Lady shoppe or at the door when presented, also at the hospital reception desk. The McHenry hospital is planning opep house on May 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. The auxiliary ladies will be on hand to serye light refreshments and to welcome the guests. Mrs. Norman Eggert or Mrs. Charles Cuda would be very happy to htfoe more volunteers for the reception desk at the hospital. Two hours weekly doesn't seem likfc much time but even this would be appreciated. m Don't forget the general meeting of the auxiliary at the Methodist church meeting room on the evening of May 14.
