The picnic tables were given a face lifting with a new coat of green paint and will now be in tip-top shape for all those picnic luncheons we all enjoy so much. The shore line of the lake was cleaned up and all the debris that has a way of gathering through the winter months was discarded. Containers have been placed at each of the beaches to eliminate unsightly rubbish. The .additional trees that were planted last fall all seem to have taken root and ere sprouting pretty green leaves. Rafts To Be Put At Beaches Another Sunday (June 21 finds "the members of the beach committee busily preparing for the summer (?) months. Under the directions of Ed Gladman, Floyd Leigh, Roy Meineke, Larry Strandquist and Bill Hayes are actively engaged in hammering nails Jn the rafts that have been built fo each of the beaches. Before the rafts can be put afloat, six oil drums will be needed. Donations of such fwould be appreciated and can be dropped off at the Roy Meineke home, 212 Shore drive. The beach committee certainly should be commended for all the time and effort they spend in making all the improvements at the beaches/ We're sure the rafts will b^/a welcome sight to all the ardent swimmers. We might mention here that these improvements . are made possible through the money that was raised at the garden card party last fall. Night Out Th new welcome committee got under way with a nice "welcome to Lakeland Park" party on Monday evening, May 27. The scene of the party was the lovely,home of Jean G::gnon. which was beautifully decorated with bouquets of pretty spring flowers. • The. newcomers honored were Ann Herzog, Dorothy Garrison, Edna Hountras, Anna Miller. Joan Kane, Amelia Cetera and Janet Kruse. After introductions were completed, the newcomers were informed as to the location of churches., schools, banks, doctors, hospitals, shops, etc., as well as the many advantages of our community. including the Lakeland Park Woman's club. • Chatter ran at high speed; and some of. the newcomers discovered they had been neighbors back in the city "in the*old days." Games were ! played. avnd winners were Amelia Cetera, Joan Kane and Janet Kruse.
