Our annual picnic will sobn be .here and volunteers are still needed for many phases of the picnic. It's going to be a gala affair this year with the main attraction of the day being the open pit barebcue of steer. In addition to all the good food, there will be plenty of good fun for all. Games, races and many other amusements will be offered. All nearby communities are invited "&nd , all .your friends and relatives, too. Remem- 'ber the day, Sunday, August 18. And, if you want to, volunteer your services, call Jim Bales, 2895J, and he'll advise you as to who's in charge of the committee you fvant to serve on. three years and were one of the real pioneers in the subdivision. We'll be sorry to see th&n go, but wish them luck and happiness in their new home. Here In The Highlands We hope that Patsy Wallace is feeling better by now. She was rushed to the hospital ""for an appendectomy last week and had her parents worried for awhile, We send her our best wishes and get well quick, Patsy. Bake Sale The boy scouts of Pistakee High-* lands are sponsoring a "bake sale at the Community Center on Staurday, July 6. All donations will be gratefully accepted--be you a creative cook or the package type. If you have a specialty you'd like to donate, call Vi Johnson, 2471-M, or Sylvia Murray, 648-W-l. The proceeds from the sale will go into the scout's treasury. So come to the Center this Saturday, to buy the delicacies and to help build up the boys' treasury. Depnty Meeting W. Peloquin and H. Fellows attended the monthly meeting of the McHenry County deputies last week at Marengo. Guest speaker of the evening was the sheriff of Winnebago county. The men enjoyed the speech, conversation and also the smorgasbord that was served. Our,deputies are not paid for their services, and the time they spend in answering your calls and attending meetings given for deputies is all voluntary. A pat on the back once in awhile fromxall of us, will make it all seem worthwhile. \ We're happy to report Joe Ullo has been approved as-*a new deputy^ for our subdivision. Joe was sworn in last week and now has taken on this additional responsibility. Joe has been kept busy as financial secretary of the association and keeping all the funds straight on the membership drive. Joe's phone number is 635-M-l. Elections We'll keep reminding you every week about the election coming up. How about putting your thinking caps^on and coming up with some goOo nominations. A Note Of Thanks To everyone who helped with the mosquito spraying project. This includes everyone who cooperated by signing up for it, the councilmen, the men in charge and also to Mr. Haddock who always is so helpful. Even though 100% cooperation isn't received in any project, it is gratifying 'to see so many willing to donate time for the benefit of all. So Long to Henry and Ann Stawarski and their children. The Stawarskis have sold their home and are moving back to Bellwood. They have been living here for Sweet Summer is here' and all nature lovers are in their glory. Here in the country we have a wonderful haven for many, varieties of birds, butterflies and wild life; and many people enjoy observing them. A few boys have been seen shooting at birds, chipmunks, cats, etc., and it is asked they refrain from shooting at these animals and confine their target practice to tin cans and other targets and not to shoot within the boundaries of the, subdivision. The Oleses are 6ff toj the north woods for a vacation of relaxing, fishing and' just plain fun. Hurry back and bring some big ones for us. First Class The Boy Scout board of review, namely Bill Nielson and Don Dobecki, met last week and passed Bob Fletcher on his first class badge. Congratulations, Bob, and keep up the good work. Lost " Pinky Fellows was quite concerned about the welfare of a stray dog last week. It's a% box type pup who was lost, and Pinky was hoping we'd be able to help in locating its home. In case you've lost a dog of this description call Pinky (1334). Bowlers Some of our local residents are bowling in mixed league this summer, and we understand there is still a need for more bowlers. Bowlers are from all nearby communities in addition to Pistakee Highlands. Marilyn VanZevern is one of our local enthusiastic bowlers, so if you'd like to bowl this summer, call Marilyn (2695) and she can fill you in on all the details. Just in case their husbands are wondering why supper is late, Dorothy Freund, Vi Johnson and Mrs. John Pechous have been caught koffee Matching lately. What's new gals? The Dobecki household has a few new additions. Daughter Linda has recently added a kitten and two baby chipmunks to her list of pets. Their collie. Lady, still gets top billing, since she was the first and still the biggest of the bunch. We hear that Mr. Kent is up and around a little bit lately. He has been bedridden for a long time, and it is good news to hear that he's getting around again. As far as we know, wedding bells haven't been ringing in the Highlands. However, some of our local residents have attended weddings elsewhere. Bob Hurckes stood up for his brother, Dick, who was recently married in Waukegan. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mclnery and daughter, Cathy attended the wedding of their niece in Oak Park last Saturday. aotao Open Daily 10 A.M. to 1 A.M. FrL & Sat. Until 3:00 A.M.
