Some of the members brought guests to this meeting because of a desire to share a very interesting evening. Among the guests were Mrs; Van Sells, WKRS McHenry county "news editor, and Henry Edgerton, ediotr of "Farmers News" and McHenry county manager for the Farm Bureau. Mrs. Lawson of Algonquin was a guest of the Waynnes of McHenry and Algonquin. <Mrs. Waynne introduced 'the'^lpls^ of honor,. a well known artist also of Algonquin, James Walker. Some of:|$K memfeers and officers of the Civic Arts association were pres<p$;V&l6o. Among them were BartSii^f^Brodie, art division chairman, and Gay Wright. Van Sells is also an officer of the Civic Arts. All of them are assisting the McHenry Auxiliary with the fair. Mr. Walker ^highlighted the evening by showmg colored slides of well knffwn pointings from the time of ijthe Italian Renaissance and Michael Art gel o down to the modern contemporary artist. He also showed slides of actual photographs of: scenes from our modern everyday life to point up the similarityat modern art and such things as skyscrapers and neon lights, Deisel engines and aerial views of the modern city. In discussing the relationship be^ tween our present world and the contemporary artist, Mr. Walker used slides of actual photographs. This showed beyond the shadow of a doubt that the impact of modern art is felt by the designers of modern architecture, as w6ll as the inventors of our miracle machines and engines. - The' influence is, however, not all in one direction.^The aftfct has had to alter his idea of beauty and -color. The world of Michael Angelo no longer exists; The artists, in this changed and.ever-changing world, uses different methods of painting, sees beauty with a different eye, interprets it with a different mind. Who can say who is the more realistic, the painter who painted angels which life never saw, or the contemporary who of machine that changes the course of rivers, the mammoth cave Which is known as a skyscraper in which many people resembling cliff dwellers spend" a portion oif their lives, the walls of cement that encompass millions of life-sustaining waters in Boulder Dam? Mr. Walker made so many things clear that most of us feel he has clarified the world of modern art so that never agaiji can we view, it in a state of confusion. Mr. Walker has been the recipient 6f many honors; in the world of art.. He -has exhibits in' the contemporaries show in New York. Sonne of the work he displayed at the Navy Pier in Chicago has been sent to Europe. He has been recognized in national magazines. We were " privileged to have him show us his fine watercoidr, tentatively entitled "Emporer's Garden." Come to the fair and get acquainted with this new World. For Better Results -- Shop In McHenry.
