Labor Day weekend the annual church carnival of Christ the King church will have fun for everyone. Pony rides will be, available for the children with booths of interest for all the adults. Beautiful prizes will be displayed in all the booths. The carnival is sponsored by the Holy Name society with the food booth oonducted by the Altar and Rosary sodality. Sandwiches, jilate lunches and other refreshments will be on hand. The bake sale regularly held in the church Will be in conjunction with the carnival and homemade bread, . cakes and pies will also be on sale. Everyone is invited for two days of real fun on the church grounds on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 81 and Sept. 1, afternoon and evenings. The beautiful cefemonies of the Forty Hours devotion which started with the Mass of Exposition last Friday at the '8 a.|m. Mass and continued with the Adoration through out the day and all day Saturday, ended Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. Rosary and litany were recited and Father Kruk delivered the sermon. Solemn Benediction closed the devotions with the Rev. Laurence y. Maddock, assistant pastor, Queen of All Saints, Chicago, as the celebrant, Rev. William Collins, assistant pastor, St. Patricks, McHenry, as deacon and Father Kruk as subdeacon. Also on Tuesday evening, the first session of the pastor's adult discussion class will begin, at 7:30. The class will meet for six Tuesday dvenings and those who want to join the church will then be confirmed on "New Merrtber Sunday" which will be on Oct. 13. Confirmation classes for the young people will begin soon too. With the junior class meeting for the first time on Sept. 10, at 3:15. and the Senior class meeting on Thursday, Sept'. 12, at 3:15. The hostess served a delicious desert and coffee pre- Girl Scout News „ The basic leadership course for adult scouts will be completed with the meeting tomorrow, Aug, 30, at the McHenry high school. The course was offered to all leaders of girl scouts in Neighborhood 7 and was given by Mrs. Frank Gans. Leaders of Wonder Lake scouts^ who profited by the training were the Mrs. William Moore, Charles Swartz, Sianley Wilson, Gloria McMahon, Phyllis Lincoln, George Rink and Wallace Sinclair. Mrs. Rink and Mrs. Sinclair last week completed the course in first aid which they were taking for the scouting program. The six girls who attended Rotary McQueen camp near Kirkland the first of August enjoyed their experience very much. This was a primitive unit which tented out and ate all meals out of doors. Much of the time was consumed by the operations of food preparation and care of sleeping facilities, but the girls did take some long hikes and enjoyed games at night around the camp fire. bonder Lake Bible Church The Rev. Double Blessing The Harold Wohnrades of Deep Spring Woods gained a grandson and a daughter Saturday, August 24. In order of appearance, grandson David was born to the Richard Wohnrades at 2 o'clock in the morning. This is Richard's second child, the first born being a girl. Miss Ruthie Schaefer of McHenry was married to Robert Wohnrade Saturday at St. Patrick's in McHenry. Both are graduates of McHenry high school, Robert of the class of '53 and Ruth in '54; The couple will honeymoon in Colorado before returning to ValBariso where Robert has a half year of school to complete before graduation from the university. To New Posts Fred Zandier has accepted a position at the elementary school in Cary and will start Sept. 3. Fred will teach *math and science and coach basketball this year. Mrs. Forbes Koehler of Indian Ridge will replace Miss ,Harvey teaching kindergarten at Edgebrook school this year. Mrs. Koehler taught kindergarten at the Johnsburg school for two years previously. Two novel and beautiful gifts which she received were huge Vedding cakes made of turkish towels to resemble lavish frosting and adorned with lace and ruching. Sunday, Aug. 25, Judy was showered again by close neighbors in White Oaks Bay at a. party given by Miss Ruth Oesterlund. She received very beautiful and useful things. More Blue Ribbon Winners The Wonder Lake garden club followed up their successful flower show by winning many ribbons at the Men's Garden club of Woodstock show "Designs in Nature" which was presented Aug. 24 and 25 at the Clarence Olson school. Our local club was invited to arrange a table captioned "Husking Bee' outdoor barbecue. Mrs. John Condren and Mrs. B. R. Redman received an honorable mention for their presentation. Mrs. Charles Kopp won five blue ribbons on flowers, and was awarded the gold ribbon special award for her African violet. She also received fiVe red ribbons, one white arid one green ribbon. Mrs. Leon Switzer won a blue ribbon for her Blue Salvia, two red, one green and three white ribbons. Mrs. V. F. Thompson was awarded two blue ribbons: Mrs. Tom Thorne won two blue, one red, and two green ribbons. Mrs. Walter Troxel won a blue ribbon for her rose. Mrs. Ed Muchow won five blue ribbons, one on a specimen flower and four vegetables, and three whit? ribbons. Mrs. Ben Redman won a blue ribbon for her Kentucky Wonder beans. Mrs. William Fiala won a red ribbon on her cattail cactus, also three white ribbons. Mrs. Arthur Hoppe won a huge bouquet as a door prize. Kittle League Banquet The wind-up of the little league baseball season will be the banquet held Thursday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ringwood Methodist church. Everyone is welcome to the banquet whether he has been associated with little league through the season or not. The ladies of the church will serve their usual delicious menu, and the program will include the presentation of the trophies to the winners. Gold baseballs will be awarded to the'" most valuable player on each team and to the overall most valuable player of the season. Baseball movies will also be shown. A second committee was elected to audit the "subdivision books twice a year. This committee is composed of one member of the board and three non-board members of the subdivision. The board was empowered to purchase and erect a cyclone type fence along the road side of the park, the fence to have two gates, one for pedestrians and one for utility. Our "Private Road" signs are to be erected on all incoming roads and new road signs which can be read from, both approaches are to be erected on all entrance roads to the subdivision. Special Meeting Thursday, Sept. 3, there will be a special meeting of the school board of Harrison school from 7:45 pjn. to 8:45 p.m. During this hour the budget for the year July 1, 1958 to June 30, 1959 wiir be open to the public for inspection. Last year at the special budget meeting this was an hour of waiting for the school board members, in as much as no one came to see how his tax money was to be spent. New Mail Set-up * ' •' Tfie Change-over in the wonder Lake post- office which has been pending and which, was due to start Sept. 1 is not official at this writing. It will allow for all mail for Wonder. Lake coming through the Wonder Lake post office. This includes Highland Shores, White Oaks Bay, Wooded Shores, etc., as well as that mail which was formerly Route 1, Ringwood. It would also permit a mailbox vat the street entrance of most homes, depending upon the route of the carrier, the conditiqn of the. road for year around driving, etc. There will be two routes and Jay Cristy will be one of the mailmen, it is understood.
