'\ ---^-^WTHgE-M MrfcTHPEwNiR Y PLMNDEAtES" PISTAKEE HIGHLANDS by Wands Dobecki Election Night Last week's association meeting consisted mostly of electing the new officers for the coming yea*. Ballots were passed out to members as they entered. Those elected to office were: President) George VanZevern; vice president. Ed Thoren; secretary, Marcia Dowd; treasurer, Ruth Lemmons; financial secretary, Clayton Holmes; and trustees, Floyd Johnson, Jim W Bales, and Skip Wilson. As in the past years these people have taken on a big job and we hope they receive the wholehearted cooperation of. everyone in the subdivision. As Mr. Van Zevern said in his speech after being elected, "We are all in the same boat just trying to do our best to help each » other."' That is merely what any association is started for. We no j» longer live in a city where every- ^ thing is supplied for us. We can • only work together for a better community. If there are improvements you would like to see in your community try coming to meetings and see what is being done before you complain. There are always corrP mittees that need your help in making these improvements. Our ' beach and life guards are a fine Example. Many complained abcut the conditions at the main beach this last year. But it took just . a little time and cooperation by a few interested people and we had a new beach that is much better than the original one. Criticism is rarely helpful unless it is backed by some good ideas and action to help carry through those ideas. So, if you criticize those who are doing a job just ask if you could do 1 tya better one and if you are willing to help when asked. Party Coming Up There will be a dance and party to honor both the outgoing and the incoming officers the last Saturday of this month, Sept. 28. The plans thus far include free refreshments and the only admission fee will be payment of the 1958 . pHCA dues. It sounds like fun for ^ all and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the members that performed at the last party couldn't be talked into doing their stuff agaih. in stitches this week but not with laughter I'm afraid. A week ago Saturday, Floyd cut his leg pretty badly and ^had to have six stitches. That was the day of the Johnsbijrg dance and he still managed a few dances that evening despite the stitches. Then last Tuesday. Lynn was bitten by a dog while playing with some neighbor children and was taken to the doctor where two stitches were necessary. We hope the Johnson tribe will be a little more fortunate in the future and we hope the only stitches will be that of laughter. Johnsbnrg Rescue • Dance^ There were quite a few of the local fans at the Rescue Squad dance on Aug. 31. Most of the merry-makers met at the Dobecki homestead and those present and accounted for were, Floyd and Vi Johnson, Steve and Jerry Vrbik. Cafla and Jimmy Bales, Dick and Kay Smith, and Dolly and Ray Novotny. From there they went to the dance Where they set up tables for the happy Highlanders and were later joined by the Wilsons, the Bill Johnsons, the Schlicks, the Hayners and the" Reinharts. The evening was warm but everyone still seemed to enjpy the music and dancing. Shortly after one o'clock everyone headed for home or elsewhere after a very merry evening. forward to another bu&y year. If you are a boy of age come and join the fun ! New scouts are always welcome. ' .Attention Girl Scouts ; The first meeting of the girl scouts and bi'ownies will be on Sept. 17. They are starting again after U Very long and enjoyable vacation. Don't forget the day for all girls is Tuesday, Sept. 17 at the barn abound 3 :30. See you all there. " Note of Thanks I think our volunteer life guards all deserve a big thank you from each one of us for- thai wpnderful job they have done •€his season. They stepped in and volunteered when the need arose and have made sure that someone was on duty at all times. The fact that ten children were rescued is proof enough that they have performed a valuable service. P.T.A. A big double celebration was held on Meadow Lane last week when Dickie Morley and Mark Van Zevern celebrated their birthdays together With about fifteen of the neighborhood children. The party was complete with cake, pop and presents and a good time was had by everyone, I'lh sure. Bob Hurckes took off on a three day vacation trip "to Rhinelander with his dad. He had a very enjoyable trip but unfortunately did not catch any fish. Better luck next time. Pistahee Patter' Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wroblewski and Ted' took a flight to California and were gone for more than a week of much deserved vacation. They had a very enjoyable time and are now back at the usual grind. Quite a few of the local youngsters took that first trip to kindergarten last week.
