Each Brownie received her pin. Mrs. Don Johnson, troop leader, welcomed the Brownies into the troop after she pinned each feirl. There are twenty little girls and not a one was missing. After the investiture, the girls served their mothers, cookies and candies in prettily decorated nut cups they had made the previous week. Mrs. Howard Ehrke had made the cookies which were shaped like the Girl Scout trefoil and were frosted in. Brownie colors. On each one was a "B" written in dark brown icing. Home Bureau - The afternoon Home Bureau unit will be the guests of the Ringwood unit, ,This will be a district meeting held on Friday afternoon, Nov. 8. No School There will be no school on Nov. ll in honor of Veterans Day. Safety Program The public is invited to the Richmond- Burton high school on Friday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. to hear Frank E. Burrows give a talk on traffic safety. He will also show films on school safety programs. TTiere will be a combined assembly of the high school and grade school students. Community Church Tea * TTie public is invited to hear Mrs. Frances Sneaker Steele, of Grand Rapids, Mich., who will be the guest speaker at a tea given at the Community church at two o'clock today, Nov. 7. She will show pictures and tell of her experiences while visiting missions among the American Indians. Mrs. Steele was a member of a group of church laymen who visited among the Sioux and Dakota Indians. Several years ago she was a member of a group which visited negro colleges. She is a sister of Myra and Edna Speaker.! Couples Club The couples club of the Community church will have a skating party on Saturday, Nov. 9. Evening Star Group The evening star group will meet at the home of Mrs. Pretzman on Thursday, Nov. 7 Here There A shower was given by Mrs. Alphonse Regnier, Hebron, for Mary Jean Madden, who became the bride of Robert Morris on Wednesday evening. Mij® Regnier is an aunt of the gfopm. Mr. aand Mrs. Albert Madden of Madison are visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Madden for several days. The rescue squad dance was well attended and everyone had a lot of fun trying to guess who was there, because this was a masquerade party. Prizes were given for the best costumes. , Mr. and Mrs. Bob Lent of McHenry won first prize. That ingenious couple came as a fire hydrant and a dog! Second prize went to a group of pickaninnies including Mr. and Mrs. Eugene May, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sutton, Gale Shaw and Donny Huff. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Miller won third prize. Mrs. Frank Motley, Mrs. Frank Lasco and Mrs. Minnie Richards visited friends, and" relatives in Garden Prairie and Belvidere Friday.- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Motley and Mr. and Mrs. Therein Ehom were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. William Motley of Genoa City last week. The dinner was in honor of Mrs. Theron Ehom who was celebrating her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Valentine j and family moved into Magaret Johnson's apartment over the weekend. They have been living on a farm west of town. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Ingiald of McHenry and Oak Park were Saturday evening visitors of his sister, Bertha Ingiald. Edith Bambas and Margaret Johnson went shopping in Burlington on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. William Osborn, Valeria and David of Twin Lakes and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Osborn and Mrs. Ida Benson of McCullom Lake were Saturday night callers at the Charles Osborn home. George Bell of Burlington was a Saturday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Bell. Harvey Bell spent the morning and had dinner with his grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Bell. Mrs. Edwin Ingiald and daughter, Linda, and Bertha Ingiald shopped in Burlington on Saturday. Mrs. William Guffey and children and Mrs. Irene Guffey visited Mrs: William Guffey's grandfather, Mr. J. F. Brandt, at Marengo Sunday afternoon. Congratulations Mary Jean Madden and Robert Morris were married at Grace Lutheran church on Wednesday Oct. 30, with Pastor Harold Carlson performing the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage by her brother, George Madden. She wore a turquoise accordion pleated dress of lace. Mary Kay Hermance was her maid of honor wearing a peach colored lace dress. Best man was Jerry De- Young of Woodstock. A reception was held at the home of Mr* and Mrs. George Madden for relatives and close friends immediately after the wedding. On Saturday evening a reception was held at Twin Lakes. Well Wishes The entire community sends wishes for a speedy recovery to Pastor Harold Carlson who underwent surgery^ at Mayo Clinic last Friday. Pastor Carlson of course is always busy serving the needs of his congregation, but he is also a friend to everyone in the community and is active in many community projects. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. He will be at Mayo's for t\Vo weeks and his address will be Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn. P.T.A. Meeting The P,T.A will meet on Nov. 13. The program will be on the- national parent teacher magazine. Second grade mothers will serve refreshments. Friendly Beggers Party The Friendly Beggers had a party at the Community church last Sunday evening. Before the party the group collected children's clothing for overseas relief. They want to thank everyone in the community for their cooperation. Speakers at Grace Church Allen Dale of Beloit spoke at Grace church on Nov. 3. Rev. John Gable of Lombard, will serve the church on Nov. 10. Mr. Gable was a former pastor of this congregation and is now engaged in religious film work. Her little daughter, Metia, plays the part of a little soldier ih the same show. ' This is the week for registration for'the women in' Illinois as set aside by the government. Mc- Henry's first registrant was Mrs. Lydia Owen, 86. Mrs. Owen said she had lived to see heir country twice at war and wanted her name on the roll as she didn't wish to be a slacker. Pastors of the McHenry churches are distributing cards to housewives in the parish, which are being filled out each week for a record of the number of wheatless, meatless and wasteless meals in their home. Mrs..Math Glosson passed away at her home near Volo, Nov. 1 after a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband and eig^t children. Mr. and Mrs. George Kramer are parents of twins, a boy and a girl, born at their home Nov. 3. Nickell, state superintendent of public instruction. Total amount of claims for, the. program previously, approved for McHenry County was $443.49, Nickel said.
