Squad Leader McHENRY LISTS THREE ENTERED IN LIVESTOCK SHOW ° Among a large number of entries from McHenry county in the fifty--eighth annual International Live Stock Exposition, set for Nov. 29 to Dec. 7 in the International amphitheatre in Chicago, are several from McHenry. Northern Pump Company farms have entered sixteen head of Herefords for the breeding classes of the show. They will also have thirteen steers for the carcass contest, which determines yield and quality of meat after slaughter. One Hereford steer each in the carcass classes is listed for John Smith and Ronald Galvin, both of McHenry. Nine thrill-packed days will again this year feature grand "championship judging of the world's finest breeding and fat cattle,' sheep and swine in the show, rings and stock yard pens. The international carcass contest will again spotlight high meat yields in livestock. PUBLIC ASSISTANCE LOAD FOR AUGUST AT STANDSTILL After four months of substantial monthly declines public assistance loads for August were practically at a standstill, Peter W. Cahill, acting executive secretary of the Illinois Public Aid Commission, reported to Gov. William W. Stratton. The August load of 283.954 recipients was 182 less than the July rolls. HERE AND THERE IN BUSINESS New Parking Lot The McHenry State Bank announced that work started Tuesday of this week on the construction of a new parking lot for bank employees on north Green street, just east of the bank. The purpose is to allow more parking space in the regular lot for customers. TWENTY-FIVE THE ARTHUR KLEINS Congratulations to Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Klein of Fox Lake on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. A High Mass was read for them at St. Peter's church, Spring Grove, with Father Daleiden officiating. Their three daughters attended this Mass with them--: Jane and her husband, . Sp/3 Robert Misiek, of Fort Campbell, Ky., Patty and Peggy of Fox Lake. A reception was held at Community hall, Johnsburg, from 5 to midnight. Approximately 400 people attended the event, and enjoyed the delicious dinner that was served and the evening of dancing. The happy couple was presented with many lovely gifts and best wishes. Mrs. Klein was Johnsburg news correspondent for the Plaindealer for several years. POST 491 by Mary Etnspar The American Legion Junior auxiliary held their monthly meeting Oct. 26. In the absence of president Elyse Falsetti, Dorothy Weichmann, junior activities chairman, presided over the meeting. Twenty-six members were present and two guests. Mary Pat Mrachek resigned as sargeant-atarms and Donna Weichmann was elected to take her place. It was decided to have a picnic at Deer Haven this coming May. The older juniors are busy making flyswatter dolls while the little ones are arranging tray favors' for the hospitals. After the meeting was adjourned, cookies, milk, and Halloween candies were enjoyed by all. Last call for dues if you want to save money. The membership drive ends Nov. 11, at which time the. dues are increased slightly. If any member has not been contacted as yet, you can pay your dues at the club at any time. INVITE VISITS - TO LOCAL SCHOOLS EDUCATION WEEK The White House has proclaimed as American National Education Week the period from Nov. 10 to 16, a week observed "since 1921. The theme for 1957 is "An Educated People Moves Freedom Forward." , McHenry residents . have every reason to be proud of their schools since it has been through their efforts that they have been able to keep pace with growing educational needs locally.
