All are welcome to begin the new year right by attending church on ,this first Sunday. The "Women of the Church" will meet Monday evening, Jan. 6, at 8, and all ladies are welcome to attend. Two films will be «own at this meeting. One is the rely cartoon entitled "The Candlemaker", which is the story of a boy and how he grows up to his responsibilities. The other film is "The Living. Church" which is the story of the United Lutheran church at work in all of its departments and agencies. Both of these films • are entertaining arid interesting. The annual meeting of the con- «egation will be held on Tuesday ening, Jan. 7, at 8. At this meeting, reports will be heard from the organizations of the church, and men will be elected to serve on the church council. Mrs. Roy Swalison will • be the guest speaker, and she will talk about the scholarship fund and explain w*hat it is and how it operates. There is to be a "kitchen shower" at the January meeting. Each person is asked to bring an item for the kitchen at school which is sorely depleted of accessories. Suggestions are tea towels, dish cloths, sponges, scouring pads, pot lifters, aprons, and packages of paper napkins. PTA Executive Committee Meeting There will be a meeting of the PTA executive committee in the library of Harrison school, Monday, Jan. 6, at 3:15 p.m. All committee members are urged to be present to work on program 4)ans for the coming winter meetings. and. News Briefs There were three Wonder Lake Christmas babies born at the Memorial hospital for McHenry county Dec. 25. An 8 lb. 3^4 oz. boy, who has been named William Sherman, was born to the William Johnsons of Wonder Woods. Sther children in the Johnson mily are Cindy, age 8, Phillip, who is 7 years old. The John Markets of Shore Hills are the parents of an 8 1b. 4M; oz. girl born on Christmas day. (1R62-1925) News Briefs Christmas cards bring news of former residents, such as Mike and Phyllis Burt, formerly of Wonder Center^ who write from Denver* Colo, that daughter Lee was married during the year. Phyllis, who suffered a heart attack a year ago, says her health is still precarious. Dick and Hazel Von Bampus, formerly of Shore Hills, are now living in Orlanclo, Fla. Their fifth child and second boy was born last spring. Dick is the brother of Virginia Montleone, and the Joe Montleones are now living in Miami News from the Warren ,Tallmans in Fort Worth is that Del is still president of the League of Women Voters in that city, son Jack is a student at Texas A & M. The Fred Whitfields are missing Wonder. Lake a little perhaps They put their boat in the bay this Fall; they found it took two hours to get the boat out of the harbor. The water,. proved too choppy (only one could swim) and they came back after a short sail, spending five hours overall for the experience. Both Phyllis and Fred are active in the church choir near their home in San Diego. x Miss Jane Ann Wrede of Wooded Shores entertained her friends from Woodstock high school at a buffet supper party , at her home Dec. 26. The girls played games and listened to the hi-fi set. Present ® were Carol Kobs, Penny Peet, Susie Rosuek, Carol Zapel, Mary Jane Ward, Crystal- Scott, Ellen Anderson, and Ginny Tappen. Mrs. Joe Benes of Shore Hills came home in time for Christmas. She was discharged from the Mennonite hospital at Bloomington, 111., two weeks before, following an operation for cataracts. She stayed with a friend at Pekin, to recuperate before coming back to Wonder Lake. I The Henry Setzlers spent the weekend at Beaver Dam, Wis., having a second Christina's with Hank's aunt. Christmas Day dinner guests were Jane's father And Hank's brother and another aunt. In addition to Sandy, who is home from Urbana, Christmas Day guests in the Fred Sells home in Indian Ridge were Van's sister and brother, Hazel Redfield and Lyle Plunkett of Chicago, both of whom brought .friends who were unable to get "home for Christmas". George Weeks had the cast removed from his knee for Christmas and is now able to move around with a cane, despite a cracked breast bone and rib. --DeanHargisdrovefromClarksville, Tenn. to spend the. weekend \ with the B. ' R. Redmans, bringing his mother, Mrs. Graham HargiS| and sisters, Joyce and Nelda with him. They all enjoyed the snow, which.is a rare sight at home. They will continue on to Lincoln' Park, Mich., to visit Mrs. Hargis's other sister, the W. B. Stagners, before returning home. Mrs. Frank White of Wonder Center has spent the past week; in the Memorial hospital for McHenry county under observation for possible surgery. Mr. and Mrs. John Charles Hayes and Johnny Jr. of Champaign were Christmas guests in the home of his sister, the Jim Mills of Wonder Woods. Jim will be entertaining Faye Bainter and Anew McMaster, the great Irish actor, in Chicago, Jan. 6, after the opening of their play. The Gail Wredes were attenddants at the wedding of Pat's brother, Lynn Patrick, to. Miss Joyce Hardaker at Muckwanagp, Wis., Dec. 28. Attending the wedding from this area were the Roy Norens,. the - Chase- Kochs, *the John Gruels and the Shuji Kimuras. Weekend guests at the Howard Hill home ,in White Oaks Bay were Mrs. Gertrude Enger and Children, Donnie and Debbie of Morton Grove. They also celebrated the second birthday of Debbie Saturday. Betty Wright, daughter of the C. L. Wrights, who was home for Christmas from Northern Illinois university, went on to Lawrence, Kansas, for the Quadrennial Wesleyan convention, attended by students from all over the country. There were eighteen students in the delegation from De- Kalb. Brother John Wright landed in Germany Dec. 5, and is stationed near Munich. Myra and Edna Speaker had as Christmas dinner guests: Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Olson. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lowe and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Olson, Jr., of McHenry. With Mr. and Mrs. L. ,Olson,' Jr. came Billy, a boy from the Woodstock Children's Home. The Vernon Harrises had Mr. and' Mrs. Seaman and Mrs. Seaman,- Sr. on Christmas Day. The Frank Hoffmans had Mr. and Mrs. Roy Todd as Christmas Day guests. The Wittmayers had . Miss Gladys Hobbs from .Minneapolis. Mary Wittmayer is home from Bryn Mawr for the holidays. At the Ralph Noyces, Ralph Jr., is home for the holidays, and on Friday Mr. and Mrs. Robert Noyce and their three children arrived to spend a few of the^ holidays with the Npyces. The three youngest Noyces are grandchildren of Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Noyce and two of the three grandma and grandpa have never seen. The RoDert Noyces live in California. are home for Christmas -- Jack Hora from Macomb, Chuck Steinke from Northfield, Minn., Cheri Lee Krufie from St. Louis, Karen Prouty and Janet Vierke from DeKalb, Terry Gundersori from Iowa, Jim Harris from T>bana and probably many others whom we have not seen. Yonth - Fellowship The senior youth fellowship group planned to meet at the Lutheran parish house last Sunday for an evening of New Year's plans--taking inventory of one's self and playing some games. The group enjoyed going carolling the Sunday before Christmas and many were the shut-ins who enjoyed their music. All the 'teenagers and the oldsters, too, enjoyed a spaghetti supper at the home of Sue Johonnott afterwards. Christmas. David, his cousin and his mother delivered the many things that were going to Nachusa. Children's Home from Grace church. May 1958 be a blessed New Year for,you all. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Buchert and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Buchert attended the funeral of their brother-in-law in Chicago last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Buchert and Susie and Karl Claudi drove to Dolton, 111., Sunday to have Christmas dinner with Mrs." Buchert's sister and family. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shaw of Chicago were Sunday dinner guests of the H. Carlson family on Sunday. Home for Christmas Many of the college students Happy Birthday Congratulations to Mrs. Ethel Bell on her birthday. Not only does the new year have a birthday", so. does Mrs. Bell, and many happy returns of the day. Here and There Mr. and Mrs. Koland Jackson, Cindy and Kathy have gone to Florida for a vacation. Hope they have a nice, warm time. The United Lutheran church women will meet Monday evening to see a filrostrip. David, Ruth and Paul Carlson with their mother visited relatives in Dekalb the day after Mr. and Mrs. DuWayne Sheldon and Karen spent Saturday and Sunday in Chicago with relatives. Sunday guests of Misses Edna and Myra Speaker were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lawrence and sons, Donnie and Jimmy, of Whitewater, Wis. and Mr. and Mrs. Wion Speaker, Jr. and daughter, Elaine of Richmond.
