I will report in the next issue the subjects that were discussed. Our most- worthy president of the association, Joe Cina's presence was keenly missed. Joe has been confined to bed rest at the McHenry hospital. We hear that he might be released to go'home sometime this weekend. Our best wishes |r a speedy recovery to this really nice guy. ~ Disappointments A general meeting of the Woman's club Was held Thursday, Jan.- 9. I am sorry to report that only twenty-six women attended.' Dorothy Meineke, chairman of the ways and means and Elmira Kujak her most able > co-chairman, Kre unable to attend due to cirnstances beyond their control, so no final reports could be made 6n the financial outcome Of the Snow BalL Helen Haynes, as cochairman to Lyda Radish, cnairman of the by-laws committee, reported revisions are in progress. Alice Quaiver, our president, asked for a vote on a much discussed addition to our by-laws, which ihcidently had caused Alice unjgld anquish this last week. A ™te was taken on the subject and was carried unanimously in favor of the decision Alice was forced to make. As always Alice, you did make the right decision and sincerely hope by now you feel relieved a bit Having no further business the meeting was brought to a close. A game was then played. Walking off with the first prize was <£iene Bartos the most comprehensive gal there, running a close second were Lucille Jones, Vicki Bottari and Jean Parisi. These three gals had to play off as we only had two prizes left. Outcome, Jean Parisi won second and Vicki Bottafi third. Lucille? Better luck next time. Coffee and cake were served and after quite a little yakitty yak we all went merrily on our way home. I do ®>pe we will have a better turn out next month. The social night was truly a disappointment with only sixteen people attending. I just wish that you would attend one of these social nights. It is such a good way to attain our wants for our community and have a good time too. I truly do not «ant to sound houndy on this ibject, but- I just cannot understand why more people don't at least give it a try. Please try and attend the next one. No one is expected to come to every social night, but I guarantee you if »you attend once, you will go again. / Community Loss I learned of Marie Strumer's death after my column had already been sent In, so coultPonly call and give the brief news that she had died early Monday morning. Marie was laid to rest in St. Mary's cemetery in Chicago after high Mass in St. Branden church of that city. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Rose and Len Blanc. Sympatfey It is with deep regret that I have another death to report. Jean Gagnon's father. Walter Okiniewski passed away suddenly Jan. 10. AlthoUgh Mr. Okoniewski had suffered a bad spell, about five weeks ago, his death came as a great shock to Jean and her eight brothers and sisters. High Mass was celebrated, Monday, 'Jan. 13. at St. John of God's church! Interment was in Resurrection cemetery in Justice Park, 111. Our sincere sympathies, Jean and Joe and to all the family of Mr. OkoniewskL Rock-A Bye Baby Is the new hit tune being heard sung around the home of Jack and June Simpson since the arrival of Jeffrey Edwin Simpson. Master Jeffrey tipped the scales at 6 pounds, 12% oz. in the Memorial hospital on Dec. 26. Time of arrival 8:16 a.m. Mighty considerate of Jeffery to let mama enjoy Christmas at home before putting in his' appearance, however I don'J, think he will be too happy in years to come with a birthday the day after Christmas. Congratulations Jack and June on your very first. . to. heir tfct she earning along as 'well as can be expected arid that Lyda will , coon be back with us once again. wnvoBio lb Mary and Jim Daurto and children, Lynn, Michael and Jimmy, who now live in Lakeland Park at 320 Shore' Drive. So nice to have you to our community. Bridge Club On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Ann Herzog entertained the bridge club at her home on Lakeview Avenue. Just before our rounds of play it was decided that we would award a third prize instead of a boobie prize. Marge Dent trotted off with first, Alice Quaiver with second and our hostess, Ann with the third. Wouldn't you know the very first night of no boobie prize. I would have won it - Darn - Ann served the most delicious burnt coconut cake, (No she didn't burn it. that's the name of it) topped off with ice cream and fresh strawberries that she picked herself last summer and has had them tUcked away in her freezer just for us. wlthAit Mary: Sure sbuttded like it. Sorry Mary 1 wouldn't folrget you and I know that goes double for Lairry. Hope this Will dear up my OOPS for la$t Week. Pheasant Under Glass? Nope, under our back porch. We have the nicest fat hen nesting under our back porch - Notice -- No hunting signs have been posted. Clrbtmii Joy I am not going to edit this, but- just type it as it was given to me. The Rizzos had a nice Christmas with the exchanging of presents and "Oh just what I wanted" phrase; but the nicest present of all was when the Rizzo family ihis side) his sister, Mildred and her husband, Lt. Col. Norman Anderson and their children, Melinda, the twins, Michele and *Marguerete and Norman, Jr. pulled in the driveway. You can imagine how happy they were to see them after two and a half years. They drove here from Montgomery, Ala. and just missed the tornado a few hours before it hit the southern part of Illinois. All in all it sure was a wonderful Christmas under the Rizzo's-roof especially for Grandma Rizzo as all her family were with her except for her other son, Sam, who is in the service, his Wife and two children. Happy Birthday Belated birthday congratulations to Joseph Gerambia which he celebrated in December. Could not get the (Tate, but do hope you had a very happy one no.matter what the date was. Helen Strandquist, Joan Krater, Diane Krater and Dorothy Uttich went out to lunch on Tuesday Jan. 7 to celebrate Joan's birthday which was on Thursday, Jan. 9. Comings and Goings Rev. Fr. James McEnery spent Christmas day, and the day after with his parents, Jim and Louise McEnery, and his two brothers. What a wonderful visit they must have had. Then on Dec. 27, Louise entertained several neighborhood children. It seems Santa left some Christmas stockings just jStuffed.with goodies at the McEnery home. The lucky participants were Greg aand Mark Bartos, Tommy Rheinhardt, Cathy Meyers and Eddie Linnane. Lyda Radisch has been among the missing and missed so much by us- all. Lyda's mother has been very ill in a hospital in Chicago and Lyda has been at her bedside for over a week. I was OOPS! Sorry Joan to have left out your parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Walker of Chicago at your Christmas dinner, i am sure they wouldn't care about being omitted by a typographical error, but would have cared if they had been left out of your Christmas dinner. The Leones were awarded fifth prize in the recent Christmas awards for . their beautifully lighted home. This was not an oversight on my part, but I did not want it to go unmentioned. Riverside Dr. McHenry, HL TOPICS McHENRY Glenn Paulsen had planned on attending, but unfortunately were bit by the flubug. Lucille tells me they played (Oh no, not again) the carrot game, passed life savers via toothpicks held between their teeth and the grapefruit passing game. They did a bit of tripping the light fantastic. Dick Jones Jook some "blackmail pictures," not really I don't "theenk". All adding up to, what I would say was a teal gone evening. What did you say. Oh yes of course they had plenty to eat. What? Barbe-, cues, relishes, and all the trimmings that go with barbecues. 'Twaa The Night Before Christmas Jo Rizzo also told me that she was up late getting things ready for the big day, and witnessed the cutest thing anyone woufd want to see on Christmas Eve. Jo's kitchen window faces on her neighbor's living room, as she stood preparing things she happened $o look acrossandthlsltf what Bhe saw. One of the little neighbor girts came pussy footing down the stairs to peek to see what Santa had left her, her eyes got bigger and bigger, and then she went up the stairs like a flash and a minute later appeared again, but this time she and two more little cuties joining her. I can just imagine how Jo did enjoy this real life Christmas story. Who were the happy kids? None other tljan the Franklin children and all while Mama Marge Franklin was sleeping like a baby, and no doubt dreaming about what was really taking place. Sneaky Here we are agaih. It seems Ed Linnane fell and while doing so, his leg bucklod under him causing /him painful injury to his ankle which resulted in a trip to the doctor. Results: Bursitis. Gosh E&, griod thing it happened an your way home from the New Year's Eve party instead of 6n your way over. "Commuters' Club" A progressive luncheon was held by the ' "Commuters' Club" last Sunday. It started with cocktails at Vera Gordon's of Huemann's suodivision then appetizers at Lorraine Schwertfeger's of Hunterville Park, then on to Loretta Quinn's in MeHenry for delicious shrimp cocktails, on to West Shore Beach where Maudia Beaudry served tne consomme course. The entree (Chicken A La King) was served at Lynn Beaver's home and Virginia Cooling had the dessert and coffee which she served beside the cheerful fireplace. The latter two' gals from our own Lakeland Park. Etta Meyers and Trudy Lyall were guests of honor and everyone had. a marvelous time and en&y*d holiday dteatl2ti» at the various homefc; Of coui*e, eveiyone ^ffe too much of the home-made- goodies ndt on the menu and as Lynn Beaver tells me, they (tajoyed every calorie. This is the first I have heard of the "Commuters' Club" sounds as if they have .a wonderful bunch of gals in their club. Almost makes me wMi I was still commuting.
