Rockwell, Chicago, was graduated Jan. 24 from the Armed Forces staff college in Norfolk, Va. The Honorable Donald A. Quarles, deputy secretary of defense, officiated at the ceremonies. The college, under the direct supervision of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is designed to train selected Army, Navy and Air Force senior officers in the many aspects of combined operations. Colonel $ammet, who entered the Army in 1942, holds the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart and the Air Medal. The colonel,' whose parents live at 808 Crystal Lake road, McHenry, was graduated from the University of Illinois in 1940. •4S Stephen J. O'Neill, seaman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. O'Neill of Route No. 3, McHenry, is serving with Helicopter Anti-Submarine squadron four at Ream field naval auxiliary air station, Imperial Beach, Calif. Popelka, Spring Grove, recently took part in annual NIKE firing tests with the 740th anti aircraft artillery missile battalion at the Red Canyon Firing range in New Mexico. Homer P. Greer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer P. Greer of Rt. 3, McHenry, recently enrolled in the Air Force reserve Movie of the Winter Season! FINE 'PROGRAM ~ IS PLANNED FOlf 4 CLUB THIS MONTH "The Thorntons at Costa Rica" is'the theme of the interesting program planned for the next meeting of the Woman's club on Friday, Feb. 14. The meeting place, is, as usual, the American Legion home, the time is 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Walter Carlson, soprano, will present a few vocal selections. Mrs. Carlson has sung for the club on other occasions and has been warmly received. Mrs. Robert Thompson is chairman of the refreshment committee. Kinne, Jr., president of the McHenry County Crippled Children's association, announced the appointment of Mrs. O. J. Malina of rural Woodstock to head the coming Easter Seal appeal. Mr. Kinne expressed great satisfaction with Mrs. Malina's acceptance of this important task. As many in the county know, Mrs. Malina was for many years engaged in sales and promotion work in the furniture and engineering fields. This business experience will be of great assistance to her in her new assignment. Those most interested in the course believe that in Mrs. Mato visit laic.
