Reading news from the training camps gives a sports fan a lift better then sulphur and molasses at this time of the year. Our only worry is that Chuck Comiskey will even talk to Fffcnk Lane before the trading deadline. We have an idea that President Ike should appoint Lane as Secretary of State. BRONCOS BEAT WARRIORS 7545 IN LAST HALF Barrington Trip Props Warriors To Third Place by Ron Smith The Warriors traveled to Barrington last Friday and met a heart-breaking defeat at the hands of the strong Bronchos. McHenry led 32-28 at the half only to lose by ten points in the final outcome. The victory moved Barrington a half game out of first place as Crystal Lake clinched at least a tie by defeating Libertyville last Friday at Libertyville. If Barrington wins this week, they will be tied with the Tigers for . the conference crown. The. best the Warriors can now do is third place in the North Suburban. The Warriors shot 38.2 per cent for the game and the Bronchos hit at a 47.3 per cent clip. McHenry played a fine first half as we led 32-28 at the Intermission. 3arrington jumped off to an 18-12 lead at the quarter. but Coach Fulton's boys outscored the Bronchos 20-10 in the second period. Turning Point The third quarter was far and away the turning point in the game. Barrington doubled its halftime total of 28 points and led at the end of the third quarter 56-39. The Warriors were ahead 18 to 3 at the quarter, and had a 34 to The Great Outdoors By lack Walsh % Many people have been wondering all winter just why the fish are not biting. Well, from what we have been able to gather, there are two main reasons. A fish, like any other living creature, must have oxygen. A heavy layer of snbw on top of the ice prevents the sun's rays from penetrating the ice and manufacturing oxygen. Lack of this essential gas causes fish to become sluggish 'in many cases even die. The other supposed logical reason is the abundance of microscopic animal and plant life, known topmost fishermen as just plain old "water lice." The theory is that the fish are feeding chiefly on this natural food and are not interested in fishermen's lures and baits.^ Maybe now that we have so much warm weather the fish will be a bit more cooperative;. Now is the best time of the year for crow hunting. All you have, to do is locate a flyway and situate yourself nearby. About three in the afternoon is the best tune to hunt crows because they are head-, irijg for their roosts in steady streams. Never shoot close to a roost. A stuffed owl is your best bet for luring crows within range. Of course, good calling is also a must and it should be kept up while you are shooting. Good concealment is the secret of the whole operation. Camouflage suits, face masks and thick brush will aid greatly. Don't forget Take along plenty of shells.
