We will all be hearing from Bob within the next ten days. Postcards will be sent to all horheowners explaining the plan. Anyone who has children who like to be outdoors towards late evening will appreciate being mosquito free. That goes for us big kids too. Two Run For School Board ,0pur subdivision will be well represented at the school board election coming up April 12. Ed Thoren and Bob Hurckes' are both running, and two finer or more capable men would be hard to fine. Please support thegp at the election on the twelfth of next month. Seventy-ninth Birthday ^ Bob and Lorraine Hurckes and boys helped Lorraine's grandfather celebrate his seventy- ninth birthday last week in Johnsburg. Her grandfather Paul Schulz had his five children and their families present, which included six children and nine great-grandsons. 'iW Dinner at the Moose Steve Vrbik, Bob Hurckes, Ifloyd Johnson and Skip Wil* son attended a stag dinner at the Moose Lodge in Woodstock Saturday night. Down Meadow Lane Frank and Judy Krumwiede have purchased the lot next door to them at 103 N. Mea- S, Lane. Judy Krumwiede is recovering from an abscessed tooth. *e had to have a penicillin shot from her doctor before< the dentist would pull it. She feels much better now. • George, Marilyn, Georgie and Julie Ann VahZevern enjoyed the circus in Chicago at the Medinah Temple last Saturday March 1. Needless to say they all had a wonderful time. Kicky Madock had quite a turn out at his third birthday party. Ricky, his brother Mike and about eleven friends enjoyed sandwiches, jello, potato chips, pop and of course cake. Mary also entertained the mothers. A good time was had by all. Last Saturday Haze and Dick Moriey helped Dick's folks celebrate their anniversary. They enjoyed a delicious steak dinner and dancing in Chicago. Councllmen Meeting. A meeting of the block captains was held last Tuesday at the home of ilorraine Hurckes. Jim Bales Resigns Jim Bales resigned hjp post as trustee which he held since his election last September^ His post will be filled and announced at the next meeting. At the councilmen's meeting last Tuesday the attending councilmen chose one qf the three men that were appointed by Mr. VanZeverrt to fill the position. Jim will still continue his work with the 'teenagers. Pictures Taken Pictures were taken at the Johnsburg school, last Friday. The completed pictures will be sent to the parents later and yiou may buy them if you like. Mr. Measles Little Tommy Mason has been down with the measles for the last six days. Hope you'll be well again soon Tommy. If anyone has been wondering what happened to the winter carnival activities that were scheduled, they have been cancelled according to chairman, Don Dobecki. Angie Neilson is sick with the flu. Hope you'll feel better soon. Wanda's dad, Richard Kelly will be married in Chicago March 21. Don and Wanda have been wondering why his visits weren't quite so frequent. Don Dobecki's mother and his brother Jerry visited last weekend, from South Bend, Ind. "Don't forget to attend the P.T.A. meeting next Tuesday. There will be a film, shown "A Desk for Billie," and the election of officers. Second grade mothers will be hostesses. Your P.T.A. depends on you. A letter, from the post office has asked the people living on Fox Lake Drive to please see that their mail boxes are „the right height. Some have sunk in the mud and it takes the mail' man quite awhile to complete his route. Mrs. LaVerne Madock spent a day in Chicago la«t.i*eek browsing and shopping arbtind. Seems like there will be a few birthdays coming up soon, Bob and Marilyn VanZevern will have a night out this Saturday when they attend a re-, tirement dinner for one of the executives of the telephone company. Team 5 has Marilyn VanZevern, Chuck Murgatrayd and Mr.x and Mrs. Monts from Sunnyside. Second place is team 1. Lorraine and Bob" Hurckes and Mr. Orlowski are the ones from the Highlands on that team. These two top placed teams will bowl against each other the last night of ..the bowling season. Did You Register? IF NOT you can anytime at the home of Marilyn VanZevern, 112 N. Meadow Lane. Any evening except Mondays and she is at every monthly meeting at the community center. 100 per cent registration means someday a polling place of our own. Brownie News The Brownie Girl Scout investiture was held Friday, March 7, at 8 p.m. at-the community center. The program was opened with the flag ceremony and the staging of the "Star Spangled Banner." Mrs. Spankuch, as master of ceremonies. presented the Brownie and Girl, Scout leaders and their committee members. Then Mrs, Schlick. scout counselor, gave a speech. Janet Thoren, who acted as announcer, gave a welcoming speech, and introduced the following Brownies: Renee Janquart, Kathy Mason, Charlotte Bosenberg, Kathy Haynor, and Susan Nurse; who sang the "Hello" song. With Judy Messel as narrator, the Brownies presented their play, "The Brownie Story." The cast is as follows: Grandmother, Linda Sluga, tailor, Susan Conway, Mary, Diane Jenkins, Tommy, Janice Erbin, and the owl, Karen Bosenberg. This was a real cute plr»y and the girls were terrific. After the play came the part the girls all were waiting for-- the investiture! Janice Janquart, the Brownie leader, performed the ceremony with Lee Conway pinning the pins on the girls. The following eleven girls became Brownies. Janet Thoren, Renee Janquart, Kathy Mason, Charlotte and Karen . Bosenberg, Kathy Haynor, Janice Erbin, Susian Conway. Linda Sluga, Diane Jenkins, and Judy Messel. -t Mrs. Janquart also present? ed the world pin and membership pins to Nancy Wallace, Mary Lyn :Johnson, Jeanne Janquart, Sandra Heir, and Dawn Misavice.i The girls were kind of sad to see Sandra Heir, Elaine Schuble, Nancy Wallace, and Debbie Montalbano fly-up tQ become Girl Scouts. The following Brownies were also on hand Charlotte Smith, Darlene Smolinski, Virginia Carls, Linda Dobecki, and Sybil Peterson. The program ended with the girls singing the "Brownie Smile Song". Mrs. Janquart would like to thank her assistants, Lee Conway, Audrey Misavice, and Dot Erbin, her committee members Mrs. Moreth, Wanda Dobecki and Lois Mason, for their help in making and serving the cake, coffee and punch. In between the Brownie and Girl ScoUt programs, the Brownies song "Where is Thiimbkin?" Girl Scout News The Girl Scout Investiture was a' big success. Troop 415 put on a pantomine play called "The Lamp Went Out." The girls in the cast were: Shirley Spankuch, Diane Johnson, Cheri Janquart. Janet Wilson, and Patsy Wallace. Sound effects by Linda Ullo. All the girls received their membership pins. The following girls received first aid and otljer badges: Patsy Wallace, Janet Wilson, Linda Ullo, Maureen Schuble, Nora Havlick, Laura Burke, Carol Sojka and Marilyn Keippel. TTiose who received their Girl ,Scout pins were: Barbara Beamer, Cheri Janquart, and Karen Loewry. Mrs. Wilson presented the pins and Vi Johnspn pinned them on the girls. Their thanks to committee members Lou Spankuch, Harriet Taylor, Marie Schlick, Terry Pfingsten and Audrey Misavice foi their help in preparing the refreshment^ Teen Club News A surprise "come as you are" party was the big event last week. The party was held in the basement of one of our club members and like most 'teen club parties, dancing was first on the schedule. The late afternoon and evening hours were whittled away by a pingpong tournament. What we would like to know is, "Who was the girl that held the superior paddle over aU the boys, but one?" Executives of the 'teen-club are having a meeting Wednesday, March 12 to discuss future events and" activities. Presently the only scheduled activities are the basketball and ,volley-ball on Monday nights and the rifle team meetings on Saturday mornings. A train, we would like to invite all interested adults to come and shoot a ffew baskets on Monday nights. We have the Johnsburg grade school gym from 7 till 10 p.m. and would like to have more competition. We play volley ball from 9 to 10 and everyone has a great t|me. ~ Our Heartiest Welcome to three new families here in the Highalnds Mr. and Mrs. Edward Groth and their children; Phyllis, Dorothy, 24, and Edward, 16 months. Down Rand Drive Hazel Rogde has been in De- Kalb for a week on vacation. She has been in a merry whirl of visiting her mother and sisers, friends, all kinds of dinner parties, and she even got to see a show She also got all the dope on the trip her niece is planning to Europe. And some more good news, she is getting rid of an old friend, the cast that has been on her broken arm, for a couple of months. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kent are staying in Chicago all week to visit their grandson, who is in Mercy hospital, only coming home on weekends to make sure everything is still allright. Here and There We just got wind of another poker party at Vi Johnson's. The girls Jerry Vrbik, Meryl Fletcher, Marie Schlick, Audrey Misavice and Harriet Wilson, had another hot game and all enjoyed the refreshments served by Vi. Ray Taylor is hpme with his family for a short vacation. But too soon he will be off to Tulsa, Okla., for nine months on another jet). Wayne is at Ft. Leonard Wood, but is reported hate and hearty, and soon, due for a fifteen day leave sometime in April. Robert Schlick got his hair cut, and Mama Schlick reports he isn't a baby anymore, but a little man. Delores Formela is going to spend the weekend in Chicago with some of her girl friends. We're sure they'll have plent to talk about and lots of to visit. - Mrs. Cohen of Kansas City going home Thursday, after a pleasant, two month stay atp the home of her daughter Mrsi? Jerry Pick and hfer family. Barb Schlick entertained girl friend, Charlotte Pullman; of Chicago, over the weekend.
