Lakeland Park TRANSACTED AT ANNUAL MEETING by Bernice Boyce The Lakeland Park Property Ownersassociatiori held its annual meeting Sunday, March 30, at the American Legion hall with 130 people attending. Ray Grote, our president, opened the meeting and announced a quorum was present therefor all issues brought to the floor for discussion could be voted on. He announced that the elections of officers would be held at 10 o'clock sharp. Floyd Frye, president of the Sportsmen's club 'was introduced. Mr. Frye announced that the Sportsmen's club was now prepared to put Rotenone in, the lake to clean out all the hard fish and to clean the wat; ers of .the lake and return it to the fine fishing and swimming lake it once was: He asked the permission of our residents in this project assuring them that the Rotenone used in ftie waters is not harmful to man and the lake could be used for swimming without fear of toxic poisoning. It was asked of Mr. Frye, what would be expected of the Lakeland Park residents outside of their permission to go forward in this project.' Sportsmen's club was paying for the project, but would like the help of manpower to remove the fish as they come to the surface after the Rotenone was used. A motion was made and seconded that we the people of Lakeland Park would give our permission for work to go forward. ' The next issue of business were the L.P.P.O.A. dues for the 1958-1959 term. After much discussion \the dues were set at seven dollars a year with a two dollar portion of the dqes going to road fund. The fiVe dollar pprtion must be p^id by May 31 or you are automatically not eligible for garbage collection at the reduced association price. Hie two dollar road fund portion must be paid by Nov. 1 or the same consequences will be carried out. Garbage dues must be paid in advance as the association cannot cover unpaid garbage service charges as they have done in the past. These laws also hold true for all elected directors. They must have all dues and assessments for the preceding fiscal year. 1957- 1958 .paid.,.by jMay 1,. 1958 or they will automatically be disqualified from office. A committee of Virginia Grote, Mary Laurence, Betty Laurence and Lucille Jones volunteered to go to Woodstock to copy all the lot owners names and addresses so the people who own lots arid have not built as yet, can be contacted for association dues arfd the road fund dues. This list Will also furnish a complete general mailing list of party owners which will enable the the .board to contact property oymers on all issues to be voted on. ' The community house blue prints plans were to be submitted for inspection, but unfortunately were not completed in time for the meeting, however a special meeting will be called when they are ready. The community house assessments remain'the same as they were voted and approved at our last general meeting last April- It was voted on at that time for forty dollar assessments over a period of 3 years. Payable at ten dollars the first year and fifteen a year for. the two following years of 1958 and 1959. ,Mr. Meineke, chairman of the beach committee gave a report on the projects in the workings of his committee. Lights are to be erected at both beaches with Jerry Rogers in full charge. Plans for the West beach are to be started as soon as the grounds are in condition to do so as stated in last week's column. He announced that everything was planned and ready for our carnival. The carnival dates are June 26 through June 29. There being no further business the election of officers was held. Mr. Medland. Pete Anderson #and Mrs. Helen Haynes were elected to fill the three vacancies on the board. The directors who will be leaving office on May 1, will be Ray Grote, president, Glen Uhles, director and Joan Kraiteerr,, secretary. The aaasasvo«c-i»a« - call them. tion is losing three wonderful and Roy workers who have given many many hours of their spare time was done by the nominating committee before they were able to submit this ljst 5o|^fUV didates. Special Note; • Ed Glorch who has given so generously of his. time to keeping the entrance lights burning by replacing burned out bulbs, etc., reported at the general meeting that he tjoes l«)t mind replacing light bulbs, but decorative globes that go over the light bulbs are a different story. Not' because Ed doesn't want to do this service, but because every time he has to replace one that cost to the association is between twenty-three and twenty-four dollars apiece. The reason they have to be replaced is the children, as they aire waiting for the bus, pass the time away throwing stones and their skill has paid off many times. It is hard enough for the association to meet the current bills out of the meager amount. of monies they have to work "With without having to spend money unnecessarily. So please tell your children to throw stones at something else or better still not throw stones at all. I thought this deserved special space as so many people were not at the meeting and therefore may not even care to read the association meeting news. It is expenses like these that will continue to raise our dues if we want to keep our community looking well groomed. .' Congwtfi>lat|oBs are in order for Mr. and Mrs, Bud Uttich and Mr. an& Xlrs. Ray. Grote. Dorothy and • 3Bud were elected to the P;T.A. as presidents attd I^y and Virginia as vice presents. We of Lakeland Park should be mighty proud 'to be so well represented at the P.T.A. Don't Forget to vote on April 8. The ride to the polls still stands with our good neighbors ready and waiting to take anyone that wants to vote if they will just They are Dorothy Busy Bunny We hope. We do want our to fulfill their duties. Their ^iinny to be a busy one, so fine services and generous help ^on»t forget to call Joan Krawill be sincerely missed by the • -- -- - - » board, hov^ever we are fortunate that these people will remain in the community and that their good advice and counsel will be available. Women's Club On April 10 the Lakeland Park Women's club will hold their regular meeting at the home of Jo Rizzo. At this time the election of officers for the coming fiscal year will be held. The nominees are, Carol Altman, Vicki Bottari and Bernice Boyce, for president. Dorothy Garrison, Elmira Kujak " and Shirley Ozog Jor first vice president. Ann Dawson, Joan Kane and Jo Rizzo^Jor second vice presi-^ dent. Betty Bockman, Beulah Hoard and Hazel Johnson for secretary. Mickey Gladman, Lillian Glosson and Beyerly Wickenkamp for treasurer. A lot of ear bending and arm twisting ter, Virginia Grote or Jerry Rogers with your donations of colored, hard boiled eggs. The young folks are looking forward to finding them, but if there are none to be hidden our Busy Bunny will be a dizzy Bunny just wondering how he will not disappoint our little Easter hunters. There will also be special prizes furnished by the Bill Kraters which is certainly more than generous. School Board Elections On April 12 the school board elections will be held at the high school. The polls will be opened from noon until 7 o'clock. You do not have to be a registered voter to vote. So don't forget to vote. • Thanks. .. to Bill- ilerzog for painting all the new street signs. It just is another instance where work is done by one of Our fellow residents and will just go unnoticed unless there is, a special note made of it. Just goes to show you how many wonderful helping hands are in Lakeland Park to help with the many projects always on hand. Thanks IBill. It was mighty thoughtful Of you. Attention illobk Captains How are the tickets going? What tickets? The tickets for the big L.P.P.O.A. Spring Roundup. It is almost here you know. In fact two Weeks from this Saturday. April 19. if you haven't as yet bought tickets, by all means do so as this is really going to be fun. No dress up affair. On Friday, March 28, Vicki Bottari entertained at a demonstration party at her home. Vicki's guests of the evening were, Edith Lavin Mrs. Bottari Sr., Dorothy Glorch, Dorothy Humphrey, Lee Glorch, Fran Cina. Jean Parisi, Marge Franklin, Elaine Jett, Helen Gerambio, Joe Rizzo and yours truly. It was a very amusing evening furnished by my friend Jo Rizzo arid her clever little quips. In fact there is an item in tlie sneaky column about one of the jgals. Vickie served two kinds of delicious cake and a good time was had by all . Happy Birthday Jo Ann Rizzo's seventh birthday finally arrived on the first day of spring. Jo (her mother) was really happy, for Jo Ann was counting the days, we&ks ahead and driving mother Jo nuts. The day arrived and Jo baked Jo-Ann's favoriate chocolate cake with pink frosting and green trimmings. It was a Maypole cake, with a l&rge seven in the center, representing Jo Ann's brand new age. From the seven were ten ribbons extending to each place, where they were tied to. the wrists of a doll for eacti little girl attending. These dolls represented the first graders she had invited to her party. All of her guests were present except Mary Jane Powers who would get the flu and had to miSs this wonderful party. The guests that were present were, Mart a Martin, Marylou Miller, Tin$ Thelen, Judy Fenwick, Janet, Weber, Cynthia Backtop 4 a]i ,of McHenry; Ellen Huska and Judy Koch of McCullom ;Lake and last but not least Nadine Estes of Fernwood Park. There were so many goodies, games and prizes, there weire enough for the next day antj JoAnn's second party. After all a gal has to have a special party where she can invite her boy friend so the next day, she had Jimmy Franklin, his sister, Valerie, her adopted little sister, Mary Pintozzi, Francine Parisi, Josephine Cina and of course, her very own sister^ Paulette who, Mama' tells me* was a big help for both days, I would say JoAnn you really had a celebration enough| to last unitl next year. - i Entertaining Those busy people the tichs entertained people on Saturday, March 29 for an evening of bridge^ They were, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Steinbach Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns, Mr; arid Mrs. Bob Meyers arid Dorothy and Bud completing the tables of bridge. The winnihg couples Were Mr. and Mrs, Steinbach who walked off with first honors and Mr. and Mrs. Meyers with Second. Dorothy served • delicious chicken alaking in patti shells, cake arid coffcie rounded out her midnight menu. Dorothy will *kill me for putting this in as after she gave me this • news she called me back to tell me that I had better not put it in as they were going to be in the column once this week and people would think they were just pushing for publicity. Not So, everyone can get the same kind of articles on their entertainipgs etfc. 'by &lst CftUing me4 So don't be mad, Dorothy. • \ „ . '• Special In ,_To Marge Casey, secretary' of the Women's club from Jo Rizzo. Quote: To Marge, Casey: Will you try to attend our monthly meeting Thursday, April 10 at the Rizzo residence. Signed Jo Rizzo.
