The highlight jqf the evening will be the installation of the new officers. Congratulations ; to Jddy Meineke on her recent achievement. Judy was a first place winner of the essay contest held by the American Legion on the history of the flag of the United States of America. We're all proud of Judy's award. Spring Roundup Two hundred people "tripped ' ated. the light fantastic" at the L P P O A ' s S p r i n g R o u n d u p which was held April 19. The fairer sex of our community and hereabouts provided a very delightful atmosphere for the > dance with their colorful and altogether charming cotton ensembles. The highlight of the evening was the floor show put on by our own square dance group. The show was emceed by Bemice Boyce, alias Annie Oakley, who introduced us to her horse Blacktop, so n?med because of his resemblance to our own bumpy Meairfrw I.<>ne. Blacktop turned fiut to be somewhat of a problem at times to Annie which Bud Uttich. The strains of the western music provided by Ken Boyce, Wally Laurence, Bernie Laurence and Bud Ut-, tich was indeed music to the ears. Another bit of humor was injected into the program by Mike Michalik's portrayal of a rather broken down cowboy. Mike' did a pantomine of the record "I'm A-Rolling." Blacktop was played by Floyd Leigh in the lead end, with none other than that other square dance member whose last name is the same as Roy Rogers' bringing up the rear. Congratulations to all! As has been suggested at our last general meeting of the association, something WAS done for \pur sheriffs at the dance. A collectionf Was taken at the dance for these very deserving men who spend several hours of their time every night protecting us and ours. As you know, these men, namely Roy Meineke and Joe Cina receive no pay whatsoever for 'their services and incur much expense fo| gasoline, etc. in the performance of their duties. Anyone who has been away on a trip knows how comforting it is to be able to report a pending absence from home and be assured that your home j will be watched for you. | Anyone who was unable to attend the dance and who wish- j es to contribute to the sheriffs' collection can do so by contacting Mrs. Strandquist -- 515 Shore Drive. Any and all contributions will be appreci- Strandquist home as the "Old Friendship club" enjoyed one of Helen's delicious home cooked meater: This club is made up of people who, though now living in all directions from one another, have weatherqd many years of the type of companionship which comes only with true friendship. Surprise was the word for it when Wayne Strandquist walked in on his parents. Wayne was supposed to be out at sea but the Navy changed its mind and sent him home on leave instead. Mom and dad took Wayne back to his station in Norfolk, Va. with interesting stopoffs at Washington, Richmond. Quantigo «and Fredricksburg on the way.
