Surprise Party "~On April 20 Mrs. Marcella Foss was doingv her average daily duties and, then left her home for the afternoon and when she arrived home she found the house jumping with the anticipation of *her return, with all the goodies for a grand time to help her celeh^, tp her birthday. Coming as a total surprise to Marc, we can all imagine how thrilled and excited she was with friends from McHenry, her family from Milwaukee, Chicago and Arlington Heights. A wonderful time was had with all the '•gang together. Many happy returns, Marc. ' Another birthday in the Foss family took .place on Apr. 27, making Bobby Foss 14 years of age. S , Back to Work tf anyone of you have tried to reach your reporter the last few days arid received no answer to calls, I have returned to work, so please call me any evening after 6 and I will be glad to fiave a chat with you. 20 Mile Speed Liimit On Sunday, April 27, our newly painted speed limit signs were posted throughout the village by our ..president, Mr. McDerrriott. Anyone exceeding the limit and caught doing so will be fined. Do use caution when drivinng in the village, We love our little ones and they do not realize the danger of getting in the roads. Troop 161 Our troop had a re-organization period last week. We have been growing so rapidly that we realized we needed more patrols in our troop so there* would be more leadership opportunities for more boys, and also increase the number of openings for new members in our troop. We now have five patrols instead of three. Both Mr. Lubke and Mr. Para attended our last troop meeting' and presented some very interesting items to the boys. Adults who have signed on the troop committee for this year are Harold Foss, Frank Bitterman. August Nieme, Marty Wrublewski, Richard Hyatt, Ted Beahler and Goetlieb Kloepfer. The chairman, Mr. Foss will call a meeting soon for the committee. I just looked it up in the Yellow P#ges." thill H fast w-A In the Yellow Pages 491 Now that the baseball season is under way, active members of Post 491 are looking fdrward to the trip to Milwaukee stadium to see the Braves play ball. At the last meeting of the post, members had tKe chance to pick between Chicago and Milwaukee and Milwaukee was the choice of all. The date set for the trip is Sunday, June 22. The trip once again will be made by chartered bus, with the tickets and transportation being paid for by the post. The only expense to members will be for their lunch and refreshments. Doc Gray will go to Milwaukee well in advance;to secure the tickets and to m^ke arrangements for a smorgasbord lunch at about the same nominal fee as last year. The post has also purchased four season ticlcets for all the Milwaukee Braves home games. These tickets are for the/convenience of any member of the post who wish to see any of the games. The schedule is posted behind the bar and the private club room. Pick out your date, it will be reserved for you, pay Bob Conway for your tickets and you and your guests will have a carefree afternoon or evening at Milwaukee. / Have you heard of the new group insurance that has been secured for Legion members? His accomplishments were listed in the monthly department bulletin which is sent to all posts in the state. We wouldn't be surprised if he receives national recognition for his feat, he certainly deserves it. Election this year j will probably be at the Jung; meeting. Rottert Hendricks, senior vicejpommander, has announced that all plans for our annual carnival have been completed. The carnival this year will be a four-day affair instead, of the usual five days. .Hits will make it a lot easier for our members and volunteer workers. The' dates will be July 3, 4, 5 ,and 6, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We have a new organization running our carnival this year. John Rose, a member of Post 491, has gone into the carnival business, in a big way. We will have fJnew equipment, new and better rides and all new variety booths. There will also be more rides and booths than we have had in the past. In the way of improvements to the post, several projects are about to be started. New counter land work bench tops will be installed in the kitchen. A large exhaust fan will be installed in the south wall of the main hall. Resurfacing of the asphalt portion of the parking lot will be done soon. The Boy Scout troop of Post 491 will plant a magnolia tree on the front lawn. The old cloakroom will be remodelled to allow storage for the new uniforms for the drum and bugle corp. Longer range plans being contemplated call for partial wall to wall "carpeting and new furniture for the private club rooms. A new system will be tried soon in the parking lot to eliminate the center parking that has made for so&much confusion on busy nights. The parking suggestion came from a member of the house committee, Roy Homo, and it seems like a good one. The Rifle squad members and their wives staged a surprise birthday party for steward Robert Conway on Friday evening, April 11. The gals all chipped m to provide a nice lunch and all present enjoyed themselves to the hilt. . The newest member of the Liar's Poker club is Ben Bauer, who was initiated .Sunday, April 20. His initial appearance was made in the usual style, but practice will soon make a better liar of him. Anyhow, thanks for the party Ben. As this article was being finished, word was received that applications for the Legion Ife insurance mentioned above are being mailed directly to all members from the national headquarters.
