The regular monthly meeting of the American Legion suAKiliary was held April 21. FWsident Lauretta Homo presiding. Americanism chairman, Ethel McGee presented gifts ^ to Sherry Evans and Nancy Whitin# for winning the essay contest. President Lauretta Homo presented a medal to Nancy Whiting for placing second in the essay contest for the 11th District. . On April 20 the following ri^mbers went to the McHenry County Home at Hartland" M a r g a r e t S c h a r f , R o s e L e e , Ruth Mrachek, Lauretta Homo and Nettie Fleming. Corsages made by Nettie Fleming were presented, to the ladies. The* rarments will be packed and sent to the Federation warehouse in Knoxville, Tenn., for listribution in this country to hose in , need, and to foreign countries in the event of an emergency. Eleanor Reid also reported that a county past president's dinner was held on April 17 Everyone was pleasantly surprised to see Mrs. Christine Krin Nixon at this dinner. She is vis'ting here from California. Eleanor Reid, poppy day chairman, announced that popday this year will be May 24. The TB X-ray unit wiil be in McIIenry on May 6 and 7. Mrs. Lillian Bolger informed the unit that Sharen Curulewski whs chosen as our candidate to Girls State for this year. Dorothy Weichmann, junior activities chairman, reported that the Juniors will hold a m o t h e r ' s t e a a t t h e i r n e x t meeting on May 17 between 1:30 and 2:30. The Juniors will also put on a little entertainment for the mothers. Eleanor Creutz announced that we have sold $458.59 in Veteran's Craft. All th's money is returned to the Veterans because all expenses connected with Veterans' craft are defrayed by the American Legion auxiliary. Sealed bids will be accepted at the school office or by anv board member until May 11. 4-H NEWS Happy Clover The Ringwood Happy Clover 4-H club met Friday, April 11, at the home of Karen and Donna Schmelzer, with twelve members present. Karen Schmelzer gave a demonstration on " "Pastry." Talks were given by Pat Hogon on "Safety;" Donna Schmelzer on "good table manners;" Donna Low on "Cooking with fats and oils." We received our ribbon for our window display during 4-H week. At the close of the meeting, refreshments were served by Karen and ponna Schmelzer. Ida Mae Walkingto: reporter.
