He .will be presented the award at the annual Kiwanis Club merit award dinn<£ to be held Thursday, May 8. This award is presented to one boy and one girl in each eighth grade graduating class from all the schools in McHenry township. Bob was voted by the members of his class with the guidance of the teachers for the following achievements; thoughtfulness, leadership, courtesy, scholastic record and sportsmanship. Also atjphe dinner will be his proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Fletcher and their other two sons. Here and There We are sorry to hear that Chuck Murgatroyd's step-dad had a coronary. James Rathnow is in the hospital in Chicago and should^ be home in ahgtat a week. Wanda Dobecki has been on the sick list with a cold, sore throt, cough, and to top it off, laryngitis. Reed Bales is now recovering from a bout with the measles. We've been hearing reports that Cletus Stewart is catching fish like crazy! ' It's nice to see our summer, Residents fixing up their house's, painting, seeding lawns, landscaping, etc. so everything will be ready for them to move in and enjoy the summer here in the Highlands. " We are sorry to report that Maria Greiner is back in the Mercy hospital in Chicago. She was taken seriously ill again and it was necessary for her to return to the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Brown entertained their son Ed and his wife from Chicago. „ Lorraine Hurckes' mother, Mrs. Rix, came out from Chicago and stayed a few days and kept Lorraine and the boys company. The measles are here again, this time Jimmy Mclnerny is the latest victim. Billie and Robbie Jackson and Cynthia Peloquin are down with the chicken pox. Hope you'll all be up and around soon. The Vrbiks, Floyd Johnsons and the Hurckes had a good time last Sunday at the Moose club in Woodstock, cocktails, dining and dancing made of an enjoyable evening, all by the courtesy of the Moose, Dee Gregg had sixteen guests for dinner. They came from Peoria and South Bend, Ind. Dud's ^ cousin brought along a wild goose stuffed with wild rice. Sounds good. Every one had quite a time. A belated happy birthday to Shirley Johnson- who celebrated on the twenty-eighth of April. She had twenty guests for dinner. Vi Johnson and Geri Vrbik enjoyed themselves at the bowling banquet at the Mc- Henry Country club last wfeek. Randy Jackson is spending a few days in Chicago visiting his grandmother. Geri and Steve Vrbik attended Steve's bowling banquet the third of May. All the men brought along their wives and enjoyed a delicious meal. Mr. and Mrs. Bentz's daughter and her two sons came down from Milwaukee and spent a few days with the folks. Kay Sielisch had a roommate of her's (from her recent stay at the hospital) visit her last- Monday. Mae Pinkham and her daughter, Cristy, came and spent a few hours cheering Kay up. Not that she needs it. Ka.y is always cheerful and glad to see her friends and neighbors drop in. Marilyn VanZevern attended a dinner May 1 at McHenry. It was a Republican Women's club get together. Congratulations to Dudley and Dee Gregg who had their seventh anniversary April 28. They went out and had a Very nice dinner. Mrs. Helen Norton of Lakemoor was a recent dinner guest when he gets home from Cleveland. Onr Sympathy We are sorry to report that Jim and Ruth Lemmons had to leave last week to go to Kentucky for the funeral of Jim's dad who passed away after being ill for some time. Our sympathy to them both in their loss of a loved one. Happy Birthday" Happy birthday to Bob and George Van Zevern who both celebrated their birthdays last Sunday, May 4. All of the family was on hand to make their day a happy one. -- Appreciation Dinner ' The speech class entertained George and Marilyn VanZevern and their wives at cocktails and a delicious dinner in Crystal Lake last Wednesday night. Those having a good time were Mr. and Mrs. Karwicki, Mr. and Mrs. Artie Fletcher, Mr. and Mrsi Ed Thoren, Mr! and Mrs. Heyward, Mr. and Mrs. George Neesen and Mr. and Mrs. Krause. After dinner Artie Fletcher presented Mr. Van Zevern with a beautiful sound block and gaval. The wives also had a chance to say a few words about their husbands in a round of table topics. Everyone had a nice time, those who couldn't make it were Jack and Dot Erbin, Don and Wanda Dobecki and Bob and Marilyn Van Zevern. George and Marilyn VanZevern attended the District 30, Toastmasters' International, convention at a hotel in Chicago last Saturday, May 3. Approximately 40 persons attended the affair. Servicemen Talked to Jane Peloquin and she informed me Jimmy is in the hospital in San Diego. They are all pretty upset as Jimmy was supposed to be home for leave in a couple of weeks- for Janet's graduation and now it looks kind of doubt' ful. Again this week she took her three children, Warren, Wayne and Sandra along with their friends, Linda Ullo, David Fletcher and Linda Lowryu to see "Snow White." •Teen Club News A meeting of the Pistakee Highlands Teen Club was held April 30, at 7:30 in the Community Center. A committee was / selected for revising the by-laws. This committee includes' Erna Rockel, Judy Jensen, Bob Messel, Ron Spknkuch, Lee Johnson and Don Rockel. This is being done for the purpose of. obtaining a charter for our filtjfb. We are having a party May 30, for which the club officers have planned some interesting and amusing games. Plans are being made for a picnic in June. The time and location are as yet unknown. Last Friday the 'teen club went skating at the McHenry Roller Rink. Except for a few bruised bones, we had a very good time. Teen club members attending were Bob Messel, Dolores FOrmela, Don Bentz, Barb Schlick, Don and Erna Rockel, Gloria Waldin, Lola DuPree, A1 Richter, Fortest Reinhardt, Lee Johnson, Bruce Novak, Judy Jense, Craig Thoren, Kirk Merley, Bud Messel, Bob Beamer, Milton Croasdale, and an ex-member from out club-home on leave--Denny Litwin. Although we had less people at our last square dance than usual, all who attended had a good time,. The club would like to thank all the people who bought tickets -and supported the project. It has been decided that 'teenagers living in the subdivision for the summer only obligation will be a fifty cent entrance fee. A tentative meeting has been set for May 19. Kirk Merley has a bad cold and has been out of school for a few days. Barb Schlick is going to Chicago this Saturday. She will pay a visit to the dentist and also do some shopping. Sea Scout News On April 19 and 20 the boys had a camping training session in Woodstock. The boys were awarded a certificate when they proved they could efficiently camp out by themselves. The Explorer Scouts are providing the entertainment and a safety program for the Boy Scouts this weekend, May 2-3-4 at Marengo. Four new. boys have been added to the roster. They are Ronald -Misba^k. Lester Klotz, Ronald Marschall and Ralph Mueller.
