Ducey, son of Mrs. Bessie Ducey Of Richmond. The couple will be married at St. Peter's church in Spring Grove Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at nuptial Mass. Community high school. TThe wedding will take place Sept. 6 at St. John's Catholic church in Johnsburg. FRANCES STELLMACH Fran will be graduated from Northern Illinois university in June with a B. S. in education and will teach at Edgebrook school in McHenry in September. Fred is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he received the degree of B.S. in geology last January. He will be entering military service in July. Honored At Pink And Blue Shower Joan Wenkel was honored at a pink and blue surprise shower this past week given by four of her aunts. There were fiftyfive ladies present, including friends arid relatives fr-om Chicago,: Westchester and Melrose Park, in addition to friends and neighbors from Wonder Lake. Loyalty Day Observed May 2 Members of the V.F.W. and auxiliary unit celebrated Loyalty Day Saturday, May 2, with a dinner dance at the club-house. Five and ten-year membership pins were presented. The bride chose a gown of white chantiliy lace and tulle over satin with a fitted bodice embroidered with sequins, Sabrina neckline, and a full hoop skirt. Her fingertip illusion veil, appliqued \vvith sequins, was held in pla<;e with a rhinestone and pearl -tiara. Her bouquet was white mums, roses, and orchids. Mrs.- Carmen- McDonald served in the capacity of ma-' trori of - honor. A reception following the service was held at the V.F.W. hall in McHenry. The bridal couple are nearing the end of their two-week honeymoon in New Orleans, La., and will reside with the bride's mother in McCuilom Lake upon their return. COMI^CJ 3EASON The McHenry Garden, club held its April meeting at the home of Mrs. Carroll Dietle of Pistakee Bay, on Tuesday, Apr. 29. $ The main business of the day concerned with the election of officers. The result of the election made Mrs. George Krickl, president: Mrs. Carroll Dietle, vice-president; Mrs. Arthur Klihgberg, treasurer; Miss Mary Burdahl, recording secretary and Mrs. Arnold Schaettgen, corresponding, secretary. Mrs. Fulde of Crystal Lake, who has been instructing the group iri the fine art of flower arranging demonstrated the use of the Hogarth curve and other designs in recognized flower arrangements. Mrs. Fulde, who is a popular instructress, urged the members to use the flowers and foliage iri seaso^ as do the Japanese. who do*n#t use fall flowers in spring arrangements, or vice versa. ^ It. was announced that Mrs. Laura Hill is to be the May hostess. Details will be sent to members later. After the business meeting the ladies visited and discussed more personal problems over some very good coffee and cake provided by the always gracious. hostess Mrs. Dietle. The new president, Mrs. Krickl invited the executive committee to a luncheon meeting at her home on the following day. Plans for the coming year, programs arid hostess schedules were the problems to be resolved at this luncheon meeting. On Thursday of last week the Bull Valley Garden club and the McHenry Garden club joined forces in presenting Mrs. -Kistner, nationally known as an expert in the world of flower arranging, in a program open to the public. Mrs. Kistner showed how to achieve the beautiful floral arrangements that win blue ribbons at flower shows. Probably the most popular phase of her program was showing what p(variety of color and design one could get from the flowers growing in one's own back yard. ' • ' " Reports were given by .the various chairman, Mrs. Albert Wipper, Spring Grove reported on rural life. Miss Genevieve Knox of McHenry reported on home arid school. Library and literature chairman, Mrs. Thomas Mathews, of Wonder Lake, reported -and presented two awards to the library and literature chairman of the two parishes that had the largest gain in Observer subscriptions. Mrs. Helen Jurack accepted the first award which was, a book entitled "This is the Mass" by Henry Daniel Rops. Mrs. Jurack is library and literature chairman for St. Mary's of McHenry. / Father Hubert McGinn, the guest speaker for the evening, e&Ve a very interesting talk on the purposes and function of the Newman club at the University of Northern Illinois. The meeting was closed with a prayer for the success of the Newman building program, led by Father McGinn. CARD OF THANKS With sincere gratitude I thank ^members of the Johnsburg and McHenry stations of the f're department and also the Johnsburg rescue squad who so promptly answered my call for assistance last Thursday.
