; ;'fkgi Foot ^1, THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday* November B, 1958' £cU&& lUciA&Jh* ££ Our MCHS Warriors gave It 'ill they had at Woodstock last McHenry Country Club team at the Palace. Pretty nifty. Friday night, but lacked the DAILY PINUPS: defense to stop a charged up Blue Streak team. There are hundreds of things to make life worthwhile, there 1 are dozens of folks who need Most observers felt that it your smile; there's the sun, the was one of the best games of moon, Sthe stars and sucft, it's tile season, but others were real much more than a little, it's all disappointed in our defeat. , part of so much. ^ I Pompous pretension does not If we feel like the world always draw great attention, crashed in^on us just because it may be part of wisdom, of a football defeat just think when you're offered some adhow the Republicans feel this breezy Wednesday morning.. We know now that the Warriors were built qp too much in pre-season appraisals, the idea being to install a winning spirit. Sometimes those things backfire.. vice to at once review the issue and immediately think twice. Even a mistake is a sign of having tried. --ANONYMOUS. In early garties our defense seemed to be strong while our offense lacked coordination. Then came a reversal. Little ifs come into the picture. We wonder if things might have been different if Jack Schaefer had been able to play all season. He turned in a beautiful touchdown run at Woodstock. Defense Unable To Stop Ground Gains In 21 To 14 Battle by Ron Smith Ron Smith gives yqu another good report on the game this Woodstock's Blue - Streaks came through a fine game to last week but the by-line must have been lost. The final standings in the North Suburban are as follaws: W L week. That was also his story down the Warriors, 21-14 in the final football game of 1958 last Friday at Woodstock. The victory enabled Woodstock to tie the Warriors for 6th place in the conference with a 1-5 wonlost record. It was a repetition of last year's situation. Woodstock whipped us last year in the last game alsb to tie us for 6th. The Warriors finished the season with a 2-6 record overall. Woodstock was also 2-6. It was a fine game to watch Libertyville Barrington Zion Crystal Lake Dundee McHenry Woodstock plunged forj, the PAT making the score 21-14 Vhich was the final outcome. McHenry tried one last pass play with 8 seconds left in the game, but it was just incomplete and many observers felt that pass interference should have been called. Both teams were hit quite heavily by • graduation, after this game and it remains to be seen just what will happen next year. An encouraging note was the Sophomore score which was 35-7 in favor of McHenry. Woodstock has 2 fine Sophomore backs in Stewart and Anderson,,plus the starting TB and HB returning so if they can mold an effective line, they should be fairly formidable next year.; McH Wood Yards rushing 155 270 Yards passing 40 31 ' Passes Completed 6-14 2-5 Punts 2 1 Average 35.6 39 KO returns 4 3 Average .19 28 First Downs 8 18 Total Yds Gained 195 301 Quarters McHenry 7 0 0 7--14 Woodstock 7 7 7 0--21 McHENRY WINS COUNTY CROSSCOUNTRY MEET Mike Creighton In First Place And McHenry's Cross - Country squad, showing improvement in each succeeding match, cli- Lfcrry Huck, a graduate of an^ a typical Woodstock-Mc- maxed their best season in the St Marv's Hieh in Woodstock "HENRY BATTLE- THERE WAS PLEN" i sch°o1 history of the sport by ' ty of good, hard football play- I winning the County Championship, Thursday afternoon at Woodstock. Between 8 and 10 p.m. Joe and June Kristof will conduct a bowling clinic and give instructions to all adults in attendance% After the adult instructional period, the top male and femal bowler will be chosen to bowl against the Kristofs. Kristof, one of the country's finest bowlers, has averaged over 200 for the past 19 years with a high league average of 220. During his career he has rolled twenty-one 300 games Outdoors This was the windup game for St. Mary's as they will join the Marian Central Catholic High next year. According to all reports so far, the deer harvest was bountiful. We have not received an overall report on the kill for the thirty-three counties, but cbnservation experts predicted an approximate kill of five hundred deer for opening datf. Well, we jknow of three deer hunters who headed for Michigan's Upper Peninsula last week. They were Vince Adams of McHenry and two friends from the surrounding area. Vince and one of his partners were successful and brought back two nice deer. Fishing in the Fox River and Chain of Lakes has been pretty good lately. Bluegills, crappies, and bass have been hitting regularly near the McHenry dam. Small, wet flies or lice-fishing spoons, with a small piece of pork find or worm seem to be the ticket to good bluegill fishing in Meyers Bay. Reports of a major build-up of diving ducks have reached us from Michigan. Waterfowl experts predict an early flight in Illinois this year. The first big flights usually hit our state about the middle of November, so duck hunters can expect some action shortly. There have been quite a few geese in this' area of late."The only catch is to be in the right corn field at the right time. Pheasant season opens next Tuesday at 12 noon. We have just two comments to make. "Keep that muzzle up" and good shooting. JUNIOR HIGH WMS SECOND PLACE TO FOOTBALL DIVISION .g. •> M » fl .).<• FOX VALLEY RIDERS The weekly meeting of the Fox Valley Riders was held at Jim DeYoung's in Crystal Lake. Next Sunday we are attending a Turkey Run in Elgin sponsored ^ by the Hurricane riders. After the run there will be turkey dinners served for'everyone. We saw movies of our Scrambles Race and Marathon Race which were held the past summer. We have also purchased a set of phones which will be used for future races. This .will be used for contact of one person to the next during the race and will be much easier as it will stop anyone from having to step, out of position to relay messages by hand. There will be less danger of someone getting hurt. Again we urge our readers to call McHenry 563-J-l if they have any information on property suitable for a clubhouse. D. O'Neill, 398; T. Crystal Lake was second with 32 points, Woodstock third with 67 points and Richmond last with 104 points. McHenry's over all season record was 10 wins and 3 losses. The fine season, which the Cross Country squad has had this fall, should help a lot in stimulating interest in the new track program which McHenry High School will start next spring. Track has not been a part of the spring athletic program since about 1941, but with one of the finest quarter mile tracks in the conference now, it is hoped that within a short time track will become one of the major spring sports.
