The gentleman from the telephone company showed two wonderful movies and one especially I think most of us were interested in because it showed the interesting places people could go to visit without an admission charge. She said all of the people present put their cards in a container from which a certain amount is drawn and the twelve judges pick four to tell their stories, so when there are over 4,000 persons present and only four end up as the chosen ones, you know how much of a chance you have to be the lucky one. Farewell to a Landmark We all bow our heads in a farewell tribute to our oldest resident, William Ricks, who passed away in Peoria where he went each winter. We will miss him come spring and mostly he will be missed by the neighbors for whom he did small favors like taking care of bills that had to be paid in town or anything that the people couldn't do because they worked. A fond farewell to a fine old man. Fate sure works in many unexpected ways because when Mr. Ricks' daughter buried her father little did she know that a few days later she would be doing the same thing for her husband. Our sympathy goes out to her. Fourteen parishes in McHenry County are taking part in a United Action campaign to raise a million dollar building fund for Marian Central Catholic high school which will be located on the outskirts of Woodstock. , This week volunteer workers will solicit the parishioners of St. Peter's church insf Spring Grove. A thirty thousand dollar goal is anticipated in pledges., which are for a period of three years. Father Daleiden, pastor of St. Peter's, asks that you be courteous to the men who call on you. These men have already made their pledges and are also giving their time to this "worthy cause. City Toboggan Party The Catholic Youth club of St. Peter's enjoyed a toboggan party at the golf course on Sunday night. Quite a few members were present and reports are that they really had a good time. CFM Meets Members of the Christian Family Movement held their regular meeting on Saturday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zak in Fox Lake. Rev. Alfred Kruk, who is their chaplain, was also present and gave an interesting talk. There was a discussion on having a drive to obtain clothing for the needy, also to save cancelled stamps which can be sent to the missions. After the meeting a lunch was served. Attend Matinee Mrs.. Edna Olson , and Miss Lorraine Mitchell enjoyed clherama in Chicago on Thursday. They also had dinner. Visits Mrs. Frank Tinned visited Mrs. Gertrude Nygren in Villa Park over the weekend. Not many of us spared the inconvenience of being stranded, and we just can't seem to enjoy an enforced vacation as well as those which we anticipate. Lakemoor Boy Scouts - Troop 131 held its bi-monthly parent night recently and Bob Schopp received his first class badge and pin. We understand it was a rough road, but he made it. Lee Whetherhult put on an interesting demonstration of electricity as he instructed radio and electricity to the first class scouts. Double Birthday Celebration Mrs. Edna Olson entertained Mrs: Albert Olson and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gagnebin, son, Lee, at her home on Saturday in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Olson and her own. Cards were played and a lovely lunch was served. RECEIVES SENTENCE Thomas Ketchum, 19, of Burton's Bridge has received a sixty-day sentence to Vandalia. He was charged with malicious mischief. Snow Clean-up Wouldn't you know when a good deed is done something spoils it. Monday while the children were in school, Mr. and Mrs. G. Mecko, Mrs. F. Beier, Mrs. V. Mondl of Pistakee Terrace and yours truly cleaned all of the snow off of the ice and the kids were sure surprised when they came home 1 from school and found out the \ work was done for them, and then what happens two days later, we get more snow then we ever needed. They had the time of their lives sliding down Still Hill, which is beginning to rival the Country Club in popularity for sledding. News and Views Karen Lindwall was thrilled with her first dance and first orchid recently when Bruce Bradley of Chicago took her to the Starlight and Roses dance at the high school. Frank „had been feeling under the weather for a few days and finally entered the hospital and must stay there for a couple of weeks. By the time you reach home Frank there won't be a chance in beating you at bunco. I bet I can do it though. Girl Scouts Mrs. Larry Booster has rei joined the trodp again and the girls are very happy to have her with them again! Hie troop hasn't been doing too much because of the weather but lots of interesting things will be in store for them when the weather permits.
