The honored guests were Mr. and Mrs. Kirk. Kirk is the Kiswaukee district representative; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Johnson, the president of the association and the sponsor; Mr. and Mrs. Jose^| Murray, he is the Scout leader; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Pfingsten. Ed is the Sea Scout leader. Five Cub Scouts received their Wolf badges. They are Jeff Zenner, Wayne Heir, Jim Mclnerriey, Ronny Kolb, and Allen Cinami. The Girl Scouts under their very capable leader, Mrs. Wilson,, did a marvelous job of saving the dinner and .everyom was grateful for the grand service the girls bestowed on them and send them a very special thank you. , 1 After dinner Mr. Kirk gave a nature talk which was most interesting, since he had many stuffed animals that he had Stuffed himself on display. Mrs. Spankuch played the piano for the communiV^ sing, a couple G-.^he^Sea Scohts lead in one of the community sings. All in all the dinner was a very big success and were very happy about the turnout for it. Page Nine Women's Club Reminder Just a reminder to the members of the Pistakee Highlands Women's club the next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17. It will be a Ccffa party so all members please mark the date on your calendar so you will not forget. / Highland Highlights The Sieli&ches will at long last Have a new window and door installed in their home on Saturday. It has been a long wait aM they will be happy to once agtan have a front door to greet folks. . Thursday the snow shovels came out of retirement and the folks were buzy digging out again. Everyone hopes this ^ill be the last of it. a Marcia Dowd is becoming fiery frustrated because one of of your reporters whom she does not know personally, sits ;iind her in church on Sun- .and when she calls in the news the reporter tells her what a pretty hat she had on. I agree, Marciji, she could at least introduce herself to you. By the way I really like the new gold number very much. Marie Schlick spent Monday with Audrey Misavice playing poker and having a very nice visit with Audrey's mother who iiWisiting with her for a while. Everyone is hoping after the seventh there will be no more running dogs. News of Your Neighbors Saturday evening the Sielisches enjoyed a wonderful evening with the Haeflgers, they enjoyed slides of Japan apd other exciting slides, Carl Pflflyed the banjo and it was nrost welcome from TV viewing. Blanche served the most delicious barbecue sandwiches and coffee. Betty Hart, Vi Schubble Marge Moreth and Lorraine Lindemann spent Thursday shopping in Waukegan. On the way home they stopped for lunch. Lorraine, a busy gal, left Sunday for a few days with Y0p daughter, Marilyn. Thursday evening Barb and Reb. Sisk and the Edward Dowds visited Jim Bales in St. Theresa's hospital in Waukegan. Jim was in his usual good spirits. It is a most heartwarming sight to see several Girl Scouts taking up the art of knitting under the very capable teaching of Mrs. Cohrs. N We are not Girl Scouts, but maybe you could teach us how to knit too. The mothers on the far West Side of the Highlands are wondering what ever became of the petition they signed for the bus to make a stop at this end. Right now^the creeks are four and five feet deep and the ice is very thin, and all children are drawn to water. Mothers fear there may be a tragedy and a bus on that end would end all such temptations for young and old. Teen Patter and Chatter A 'teen meeting was held March v 2 at the barn. Plans were made for a combination St Pat's and superstition, party Friday, Mar. 13. It will, be a big dance. j The 'teens will enjoy a day I off on the thirteenth, because of a teachers meeting. Sunday Don Bentz, Barb Schlick, and Ron Spankuch visited Mr. Bales in the hospital. He was very glad to see them and everyone enjoyed the visit. Bruce Novak and Delores Formella took part in the music contest. Bruce took a second place in voice and first in saxaphone trio. DoDo took a first in the girls octet. By winning a first they are invited to take part in the State contest. It is a great honor to win and be sent to the State contest and they should be very proud of the profits of their hard work, as are the 'teens in the Highlands proud of them. It proves 'teens can be children to be proud of. News in General Mrs. Rosengart is having a luncheon on Thursday for some of her friends. The Bentzes will have company for dinner on Sunday. More cards? Bobby Schlick is going to attend his cousin's birthday party in Chicago on March 7. The thirteenth the Schlicks will spend the day in Chicago shopping. The monthly poker club had a baby shower for Pat Jackson. It was held in the home of Audrey Misavice last Friday. Marie Schlick, Toots Spankuch, Dee Gregg, Meryl Fletcher, Ann Szypelbaum, those poker playing gals, were on hand. Audrey's mother, Mrs. Osweiler, is having a ball playing poker with the girls Association News The association meeting held last Wednesday at the community center was well represented. The minutes of the last meeting were read and then things got under way. Mrs. Mary Madock and Mrs. Beverly Lewandowski are the picnic chairmen for the annual picnic held sometime this summer. Last Saturday at 2 o'clock was the first roundup of stray dogs, but from now on there will be no warning when the men will be around. The dogs will be held for three days at the vets, you have this time to claim your pet. Henry Zenner and Bob Gleck will be in charge of this chore. Let's hope this will help clear up our dog problem. Ed Thoren told about the school addition which is planned for the Johnsburg school. This extra space is badly needed. On March 21 from noon to 7 pm. you can cast your vote on this matter. The next Women's club meeting will be held on March 17. Try to get out for an evening of fun. There will be the annual Easter egg hunt and donations of colored eggs are needed. This hunt will be held on March 28. More details later. A week from Friday the Sea Scouts tvill have a camp out. Hope the ground dries up a little, fellas. Mrs. Bentz and Ed Pfingsten are forming a pre-teen club. This will include ages from 11 thru 14. Don't forget to order your cookies or peanuts from the Girl Scouts when they come to your door. Mrs. Bob VanZevern will handle the Red Cross drive in two weeks. Be generous when she calls. The social affair for April will be a pot-luck supper and dance. This is an adult activity. As of yet no definite date has been set, but you can watch our column for the time and date and other details. There will be a Fire man's dance on April 4. It ^will be from 9 to 1 a.m. Get on your dancing shoes and will see you at Fire House No. 1. Again this summer there will be mosquito spraying done for those who wish it. The money will be collected at the time of the spraying which will be handled by the 'teens. There will be a water patrol this summer. The men will be appointed by the sheriffs office. Meeting was adjourned for cake, coffee and chatting. Petition Withdrawn With Bob Heilgeist as attorney for Pistakee Highlands in the petition against the Marina base in the Highlands and a show of about 21 persons from the subdivision Mr. Thelen's attorneys withdrew their petition and the matter came to an end. , Girl Scout Starting March 8 was the beginning of Girl Scout week. Many- scouts got together and attended church together to start the week off right. The girls ate working on needlecraft badges. They are thrilled over the prospect of knitting and they are grateful to Mrs. Anna Chors for teaching them. Some other Scouts are finishing the second class badges. The first meeting of the Methodist Youth Fellowship was held last Sunday at the community center here in the Highlands. All 13 year olds and older are welcome and are asked to attend. He has to take it easy for a month and we hear he made sure his wife Carla heard the doctor's instructions correctly. He was thrilled to be remembered by the 'teens with a beautiful plant. Last weekend Geri and Bob Gleck had a house warming and open house for their family and the week before that they had the same thing for all their friends. I bet you're glad those two weekends are over, Geri. The Glecks are one of the families who opened their home for Sunday school classes in their basement. Andy Brill had his car damaged while driving through Fox Lake a week ago. It was necessary for him to get a different car while his own is being fixed. When it rains, it pours, huh Andy. Accident On Tuesday, March 3, Mr. Crawley was jacking up his car when the jack flew out from under the car and hit him in the §ye. He was a patient in the McHenry hospital for twodays. We all hope everything turns out fine. Pink or Blue A baby shower was given in honor of Mrs. Peggy Thompson by Jean Logue. Attending the shower were Mrs. Mathew, Mrs. Kospsell, Mrs. Krumwiede and her daughter, Hope, Mrs. Eggert and Peggy's close friends, Marge, Thella and Dorothy. The refrshments consisted of cake, jello and coffee. Peggy received many practical and useful gifts for the baby. Stork News Mr. and Mrs. Thompson became the proud parents of a new bright eye smiling baby girl. The baby was born in Memorial hospital in Woodstock on March 3. Other children at home are Mike and Kim Thompson. to on the shoe, place marshmallows on a knife and pin the tail on the donkey were among the games played. They were Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ritter, uncle and aunt, and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ritter. The Eggert family spent most of the past weekend in Chicago helping Mrs. Eggerts', brother and his wife repair the damage caused by a fire. Miss Connie Ritter joined the Eggert family on their visit to Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Belford attended the Commission of Education that was presented at the Methodist Community church.
