Anyone desiring to make a plwge or gift who was not contacted may bring it to the worship services on Sunday, that the closing day will also be "Victory Day." The Luther League will meet Sunday ^evening, April 26, at 7:30, and invite all high school young people to attend. There will be an interesting program, entertainment, social and refreshments. Bible Church News April 26 will be a day of unusual blessing as two important occasions will be enjoyed. Rev. T. M. Wright of Muskegan, Mich., former pastor for 35 years, army chaplain for 2 years, director of Great Lakes Seaman's mission for 20 years, _and presently director of the <l!^ mission of Muskegan, will bWbffering two messages of Bible prophesy in the line of present day events. The church annual meeting will ^6 held Tuesday evening, April $8, and all families associated with the church in evenfthe smallest ways, are exp^ ted to attend. A potluck siq^er will also be held previous to the meeting time of 8 p.m. Children will be entertained in the church basement while adults attend the business meeting. Walter Dean has offered Dean's grocery store as a depot for the collection of newspapers for the church. He will store them in his garage. Pas- Wright wishes to thank all v*®)' have donated old paper and also Mr. Dean for the much needed storage space. Country Art Fair Plans for the third annual Country Art Fair are getting underway according to Mrs. Gertrude Gladstone, general chairman. The fair will be held June 19, 20, 21 at the McHenry Junior high school. Any Wonder Lake area artists interested in entering are more than welcome. There are divisions for creative art work in any medium and it is hoped that those who took part previously will dtf so again, as well as artists who hadn't entered the show before. Registration blanks can be obtained from Mrs. Richard Wilhelm, 204 Main street, McHenry; phone 128 M: Christening Susan Mary Hendricks, baby daughter of John and Catherine Liesch Hendricks, was baptized Sunday, April 12, at Christ the King church by Rev. Raymond Hubers. Howard Williams and Mary Mulcahy are the godparents. Spring Card Party Thursday, April 23, at 8 p!m. in the parish hall, the Altar and Rosary Sodality of Christ the King diurch is having a spring card party. Refreshments will be served. Mrs. John Gustek, president, invites everyone who enjoys playing cards to attend and bring their friends. Youth Discussion Club An interesting movie relating-- to--the--theme--of--religious vocations will be shown and discussed Monday evening April 27, at 7 p.m. in the parish hall. Rev. James Vanderpool hopes to see a large number of young people in attendance. A social hour will follow and all the young people in the area are welcome. Legion Auxiliary News Wonder Lake auxiliary unit No. 1169 proudly announces their sponsorship of Sue Etheridge to Ulini Girls State. Sue is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Etheridge of Indian Ridge, is 16 years old and in the Junior class at McHenry high school. In keeping with the program of Community Service, the auxiliary donated both cakes and money to the recent 8th grade bake sale at Harrison school. Veteran^' Craft chairman, Marie Bendl, reports a total of $296.11 sold to date. Thanks to Marie for an excellent job. Poppy Day chairman, Lois Haak, announced poppy day will be sometime in May, exact date to be announced later. Posters will be placed in the stores and it is the hope that W. L. residents will get their poppies here at home, as 700 poppies have been ordered. A rummage sale will be held at the end of May. In connection with this sale, a bake sale will also be held and donations of cakes, pies, etc., will be cheerfully accepted. All proceeds of these sales go toward the continuation of auxiliary projects benefiting veterans and their families. Amanda Donash, unit historian, recently received an 11th district citation for her history of the unit. Congratulations and many thanks for a job well done from the auxiliary. In addition to white shirts and playing cards, twelve dozen cupcakes were taken to the veterans at Elgin State hospital Wednesday evening, April 22. Unit members attending were Mary Lowrey, Marion Cannon, Jerre and Nancy Elberson and Lois Weeks. Myrtle and Marge To " • St ration Tea Mrs. Dale Healles and Mrs. Harry Davidson have been invited to a reception at the executive mansion in Springfield Friday, May 1, in their capacity as officers of the McHenry County Association for Retarded Children. Both women, would have been unable to attend, since they could not be away from home and family for more than four or five hours, if it were not for the generous offer of Arthur Galt"who is furnishing the round trip flight from his air strip in Greenwood, so that the women can attend the tea from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The flight wall only take 1JL> hours each way. All that can stop the girls now is old man weather. Aren't people wonderful? Class Plays A Success The seventh and eighth grade class plays put on at Harrison school Thursday night were well received by the audience. Unofficial figure of the gate was $175 in addition to $26 taken in on the bake sale conducted following the plays. These funds should assure the class of their Springfield trip, complete with trimmings. The plays represent the final fund raising effort of the year to- ! ward this annual eighth grade ! educational tour taken by each graduating class. gifts was Miss Fran Kendrigan of Woodstock, honoree at a bridal shower held at the home of Mrs. George Hartmann recently. Miss Kendrigan became the bride of Robert Maden of Lincolnwood Saturday, April .18, at St. Mary's church in HVopdstock. The bride and KrtJbm left on a honeymoon for%fcrida and Nassau immediately following the reception ;n Crystal Lake. Upon their return they will reside in Lincoln wood. Ringwood Home Bureau Meets The Ringwood unit of McHenry county Home Bureau met at the home of Mfs. Charles Kopp of Wonder Lake Wednesday. Thirteen members and three guests were present. The members artswered to roll call giving answers to "the effect of modern day distracitidns such as TV". Mrs. John Hogan of Ringwood talked about her trip to Urbnna. The general impression was that there were Wore things for men this year, which was a disappointment to the women who attended. Mrs. Olson, home advisor, gave the lesson, "Guiding the Growth of Character." A delicious serving of cheese and pineapple torts and home-made cookies made up the refreshments. ^Wonder Workers 4-H The Wonder Workers took" honors at the Share the Fun contest at Westwood school Friday evening, where they came in second place. This qualified them to take part in the spring rally at Woodstock high school neyt Saturday. Mrs. Jay Hansen is their leader. Worth is tnat Dell ran for city council woman and was defeated in a close race in a recent election; also she has been offered a post on the state board of the League of Women Voters. The Harrison faculty kept busy over the weekend with extra-curricular activity -- Mr. Thomas' attended a meeting of the elementary principals' roundtable of Northern Illinois in Chicago Saturday; Mr. Wenck was a delegate to the state convention of the I.C.P.T.; and several other teachers were r-t a meeting of classroom teachers held in DeKalb on the campus of Northern Illinois university, also on Saturday. HIGHWAY CONTRACTS Contracts totaling $1,202,528 for highway construction and related projects in ~ connection with Gov. William G. Stratton's 1 9 5 9 r o a d p r o g r a m w e r e awarded last week by the state Division of Highways. The contracts include work in DeKalb, Fayette, LaSalle. Livingston, Tazewell and Winnebago counties. ENTER COLT STAKES The largest number of entrants in the 10-year history of the Illinois State Fair Coit Stakes have made first payments for eligibility. J. Ralph Peak, general manager of the State Fair, said 761 hourses were named by payment of the first fee of $25. Second and third payments are required in June and July and a final payment and declaration to' run are due at the time of the fair.
