ERRORS HURT AS DUNDEE CARDUNALS BEAT MCHS VARSITY By Ron Smith Coach McCracken's luckless Warriors have snapped out of their resperate hitting slump, their desperate hitting slump, Dundee's Cardunals in a replay of that 6-6 tie of a few weeks ago. The score was 10- 6. McHenry pounded out 8 hits for the second straight game, but Dundee got nine while the Warriors committed 4 errors. Dundee also stole 7 bases while taking advantage of 2 wild pitches and 2 passed balls. Claybaugh started and failed to get a man out. Hester finished the game, giving up 6 runs, 5 walks, and striking out 7. y Three Warriors/ got 2 hits apiece including Mike Gantert, Jack Schaefer and Billy Oeffling. There were 2 extra base hits included among our 8; a triple to left-center by Mike1 Gantert and a home run to right-field by Ron Smith.' Both were line shots over the outfielder's heads. McHenry got 2 in the first on singles by Oeffling and Schaeter, a passed ball, and the long line triple by Gantert, who was making his first regular start as catcher. We added 2 in the third, making the score 6-4, Dundee's favor. After two out, Gantert got on on an error, and he was driven home by Ron Smith's home run over the rightfielder's head. It was both Smith's and McHenry's first home run of the year. We scored our final two in the fourth when 3 straight walks loaded the bases with then brought in their ace nobody out. The Cardunals lefty. Storm, who proceeded to strike out both Roti and Oeffling before Jim Smith singled to left, driving home 2 runs and making . the final sco^e 10-6. , The Warriors just can't seem to get their hitting, pitching, and fielding together in the same game. They have flashed outstanding signs in each of these categories, but never seem to combine them for a victory. Most of the team's failure at present is due to the demoralized "rut" the team seems to be in. A victory could do the trick and snap us out of it.
