To Mr. and Mrs. William Bradley on their twenty-five years of wedded bliss which they celebrated on June 14 with a party in their home. To Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sweeney on their seventeenth anniversary which they celebrated on June 13. Visiting Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sweeney last week was Theresa's brother, John Pfammatter. Bridal Shower A bridal shower in honor of Miss Roberta Hollenback, fiancee of Robert Humphreys, was given by Janet Freund at the home of Bob's parents at which time twenty guests came to shower Roberta with many very beautiful and useful gifts. HOLD OPEN HOUSE DURING WEEK AT FARMERS' CO-OP Open house is being held at the McHenry County Farmers Co-op. in McHenry this week in order to acquaint the public with their new line of Purina Chows and products. There will be free gifts and favors given. The adc^ion of the new line is expected to be of interest to dairymen, poultry raisers and livestock feeders. William Pictor, former MCHS agriculture instructor and now a representative of the- company, is cooperating with the Farmers Co-op, in making plans for a special grand opening, probably in August. CAMP LOWDEN OPENED SEASON SUNDAY, JUNE 21 Camp Lowden, operated by the Blackhawk Ajrea Council, Inc., Boy Scouts of America, opened its eighteenth annual season Sunday, June 21, for seven weekly periods. More than 1,500 Bov" Scouts and Explorer Scouts are expected to attend from all units in the six-county area. The camp program will emphasize all phases of outdoor living in addition to special activities designed to impart skills. As usual, it is expected that the swimming pool and the rifle and archery ranges will be-tthe most sought after, activities. The camp recently received an outdoor type public address system as a gift from Mr. and Mrs. John Bowman of- Sterling. It is now possible to send bugle calls and music over a three mile radius. j The Council, aware of "its ; responsibility to develop the .whole boy, has put special emphasis this year on opportunity for the boy to observe his home religious training. Scout Executive H. J. Homann, as- I sisted by three council chaplains, Rev. Father Paul E. Fry, Catholic cTiaplain. Rabbi Saul B. Applebaum, Jewish chaplain. and Pastor Joseph Conrad. Protestant chaplaiiqj developed a series of evening I vesper services for all adult | unit leaders to use on their respective campsites before rei tiring. We discussed our fair regulations and premium books. At • the next meeting we plan io • work on a safety poster. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Charles Weingart and, Mrs. Walter Anderson. We played baseball for recreation. The next meeting will be July 7 at Butch Gelvir^s home. Norma Anderson, reporter HOLD EXAMS FOR MILITARY ACADEMY JULY 13 Congressman Elmer J. Hoffman announced that the Civil Service commission will conduct an examination on Monday, July 13, for candidates interested in entering the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, U. S. Air Force Academy, Denver, Colo., or the U. S. Merchant Marine academy at Kings Point, New York, for the academic year commencing July, 1960. •The central examining point for the 14th Congressional district is Aurora, examinations commencing at 8:30 a m. local time. Candidates who do not expect to be at their place of residence on that day will be accorded an opportunity to participate in the examination at the town or city nearest their temporary address where the commission holds its regular civil service examinations. Therefore, it is imperative that all candidates keep Rep. Hoffman's office informed as to their current address. All candidates must be bona fide residents of the 14th Congressional district of Illinois and must have attained the age of 17 on the day of admission and must not have reached the age of 22. All candidates must meet the physical requirements established by the Academies. Booklets fully descriptive of the academies, together with information pertaining to the examination, as well as application blanks, may be secured by writing to Elmer J. Hoffman, M. There were barbecued I hamburgers and h o t d o g s j seized, pop, etc.. and after games were played they all gathered around to see and eat the very beautiful birthday cake.
