Rennell officiating. Sponsors were Gerald Vogel of Richmond and Mrs. Janice Manning of McHenry. Dinner was served afterward to the Gerald Vogel and Don Manning families. Mrs. Charles White and daughters. Barbara and Valerie, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Art on J. Schmitt. * High School Days Are Recalled At Reunion Memories of their high school days were recalled by members of the class of 1939 when they held their first reunion recently at the Wing 'n Fin club. Herb Reihansperger served as master of ceremonies and James Larkin was toastmaster. Special guests were C. H. D u k e r. superintendent of schools in 1939. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Anglese and Mrs. Paul Yanda. Decorations were carried out in the class colors of blue and white and the class flower, white carnations, were made into corsages for the ladies and boutonnieres for the men. Alta Denman Harding read the class prophecy^and Jerry Miller gave the prayer. Questionnaires which had been sent to each class member in advance were used to make up booklets containing a brief history of the individual members of the class, and these were given to those in attendance and were sent to several who could not be present. Gifts were presented to Jane Durland Kidder of Indianapolis, Ind., who came the greatest distance; Mrs. Gladys Shepard Ainger of Alden as class member married the longest; and to Dorothy Lay Himplemann for having the most children, eight. The couple will reside in Antioch. Bridal Couple Millard - Ahlgrim Vows Exchanged Miss Diane Charlton Millard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest G. Millard of Chicago, was married to Mr. Warren David Ahlgrim, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert G. Ahlgrim of Rt. 3, McHenry, in a wedding ceremony which took place at Trinity Methodist church, Chicago. on June 27. The couple left on a 1rip to Colorado, after which they will take up residence in Boulder, Colo. , The bride is a graduate of the University of Colorado and will teach next fall in Broomfield Heights. Colo. The groom is • a senior in the school of pharmacy at the university. Hold Picnic At Capt. Ames' Home The Marine inspector general's team from Washington, DC., and about forty other Marine officers and their wives will be guests of Capt. and Mrs. Carl Ames when a picnic is enjoyed at their Pistakee Bay home next Sunday. Others scheduled to attend are Col. and Mrs. Nelson (he is commanding officer of the j Marine barracks at Great Lakes) and Lt. Col. and Mrs. O'Connell of Great Lakes. A large turn-out is urged to honor the old timers and also to attend the last meeting before the 1959 vacation. MEADE-BLAIR VOWS^EXCHANGED IN CITY CHURCH The Community Methodist church was the scene of a lovely wedding ceremony last Saturday afternoon which united Miss Elizabeth Meade and Kenneth Earl „Blair, both of McHenry. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.'M. Meade of Van Lear. Ky„ and the groom is the son of Mrs. Kenneth Blair of Pointsville. Ky. Rev. George Martin officiated at the double ring service. Attending the couple were Mrs. Richard Doherty of McHenry, aunt of the bride, as matron of honor, and a friend, Wayne Meddings, of McHenry, as best man. A reception followed the ceremony at the Doherty home. The couple will reside in the Kilday apartment on John street. The bride is an employee of Trolex and the groom works at Terra Cotta. Richard Bates Married June 27 Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Patricia Ann Fink, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fink of Lake Villa, to Richard Dale Bates, son of Dr. and Mrs. Norman C. Bates of McHenry. The ceremony was performed June 27 in Jerusalem Evangelical L u t h e r a n c h u r c h , M o r t o n Grove. The groom was graduated from the local high school and from Northern Illinois university. SHOP IN McHENRY On Wednesday evening, at the Woodstock home of Mrs. Joseph Burgf, a kitchen shower was held, to which Woodstock friends of the bride-to-be were invited. Showers Honor Bride-to-be Miss Mary Ann Bolger, who will be come a bride on July 2.3, was guest of honor at several showers recently. Two aunts, Mrs. Earl Highland and Miss Catherine Kortendick. were hostesses at a miscellaneous shower held in Rockford, attended by aunts and first cousins. The following Tuesday, Mrs. Clarence Anglese entertained at a luncheon and shower honoring Miss Bolger. New Melleray monastery in Dubuque, Iowa, was the scene of a beautiful wedding ceremony on Monday, July 6, when Miss Eileen Knox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Knox, Sr., of McHenry, became the bride of Mr. Ronald Mauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer J. Mauer, also of this city. The Ceremony was performed at 9:30 by Rt. Rev. Abbot Philip O'Connor, O.C.S.O., with music. by the select choir of the monastery. The nuptial high Mass was served by Brother Kevin, O.C.S.O., brother of the bride. Bouquets of white glads, carnations and stock decorated the altar. The pretty, blonde bride chose an embroidered nylon tulle over satin dress, with satin-bound mandarin collar and full, push-up sleeves. The skirt was bouffant over layers of net and satin, worn with hoop. A pearl-trimmed crown held a fingertip veil. Attending the bride as matron of honor was her sister, Mrs. Helen Busch of McHenry, who was attired in a ballerina Length dress of light green, with which she wore a white headpiece. Janet Knox, a niece, was flower girl, wearing nylon net over, satin, with crown holding a short veil. Robert Hopp of McHenry served as best man. • Mrs. Knox chose a pink dacron dress with pleated skirt and white accessories, while Mrs. Mauer was attired in a delicate pink polished cotton dress and white accessories. A wedding breakfast was served for thirty guests at the monastery guest house at 11:30. The couple will make their home on Park street in McHenry. The bride is a 1959 graduate of the McHenry high school. The groom graduated in 195.6 from .Crystal Lake high school and is an employee of Perfection Millwork at Hartland. CARD OF THANKS I would like to take this opportunity to say "thank you" to the wonderful neighbors, relatives and friends who expressed their kindness in so many different ways during my convalescence in the hospital and at home. Everything was appreciated so very much, j^auretta Kromroy 10 The June meeting of the McHenry Garden club was held at the home of Mrs. Alice Comes at Lake Defiance. The hostess escorted those attending on a tour of the beautiful home which ended in a living room decorated predominantly in authentic Mexican furnishings. Before an inviting fire, Miss Ruth Neal, president, conducted the mieeting. A communication was readfrom Flora Mann, chairman of the state beautification of toll roads committee. This fully outlined the steps that were being planned and the work done to date on this project. The local organization pledged to donate $50 toward this work. The report from the fruit and flower guild chairman, Mrs. Mabel Johnson, told of sending large containers of prize peonies from the garden of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thompson, for use in various Chicago hospitals. Through the generous help of Morris Crouch, the local group has donated many flats of annuals to Downey Veterans' hospital. Mrs. Beulah Gruenfeld gave a very interesting talk on English garden^. Her talk centered mainly on < Buchar,t's ^Gardens located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. A former member of the McHenry Garden club, Mrs. J. Albert Roesch, wrote a very interesting letter from her home in the Hawaiian Islands concerning the climate, soil and growth of the orchid. In that location these plants grow as wild flowers in the fields and woods, but it is difficult to grow these flowers successfully in a climate such as ours. The McHenry Garden club was invited to place an arrangement at the recent art fair held at the Junior high school.' Mrs. Robert Thompson and Mrs. George Johnson took charge of this and placed a suitable entry which cbi mented the art exhibit,, "DE& SERTED HOUSE", by Robert Gray, of Lakewood. The$ chose grasses and clover arp ranged in a bean pot placed oft an antique water stand. Many favorable comments were ceived about the effect mis created. Mrs. Fred Svoboda has been appointed chairman of thj? Garden club show which will be held in October. Further details of this event will be announced at a later date.
