Erickson, of Lakemoor, recently attended a cpnservation school held July 13 to 18 in Springfield. At a recent meeting of the Garden dub, his sponsor at school, Roy reported on the week's activities. There was a private train from Chicago, taking all the boys frort this area direct to Springfield. A total of 300 boys and 100 girls attended this school. It was conducted on the Illinois state fair grounds, where there are many groves of trees available for nature study classes, and facilities 'are available for suitable housing and recreation for this size group of boys and girls. All the students were housed at the 4-H buildings on the fair grounds. The boys and girls attended six hours of classes daily. These training periods concerned law enforcement. game fields ancl birds, fish hatcheries, and all other topics concerning conservation. The instructors for these courses are game wardens from the department of conservation. Different wardens are chosen for this school each year, according to their fields of specialization. At the end of this training period, each pupil was given a test over all the materials presented. Those ranking above a certain percent were given a certificate of award, stating that they had passed this study course. Roy felt that this trip was very worthwhile, and might have a great bearing on a person when considering his lifetime occupation. Under the heading of special equipment may be placed the inhalator-aspirator resuscitator which employs an oxygen tank with a mechanism at the top which forces oxygen into, or draws fluids out of, the patient's respiratory system.
