Font THE McHENf* tLAINDEALEH Thursday,. LAu gust 27* 195^1 Wtdkh. Now that the Rockefellers have that wedding taken care of in Sweden, news reports seem to be getting back to normal. Marie Yegge, who watched the White Sox double header on T.V. Sunday, was the first to tell us about the Sox acquiring "Big Klu." She reminds us that the Yankees picked up Johnny Mize a few years ago and he proceeded to pick up the Yankees. Mize was over the hill, but he had enough left to >vin a pennant. Let us not mislead you. Marie is still a Cub fan and hadn't been seen at any Democratic rallies. Congratulations to Manager Jcx$ Frett and his Johnsburg Tigers on a highly successful' season that landedTthem on*fhe top of the County League staDdings. Ed Doyle just came in at this point so we have completely lost any train of thought we might have had. He can't believe the Sox will win the pennartt and foresees yours truly as a hopeless physical and mental wreck at the end of the se^6on. Manager John Knox and his Shamrocks brought baseball bade a long way in McHenry during the season. Getting local players in the lineup and working with young players has given the team a big lift. Always like to visit with Donald Givens, but he had sad news this morning. Told us Walter Warner passed away. We had mentioned just recently that it was about time for Walter to pay us a visit. We talked of a few. things besides baseball, but not many. We will miss those visits. The ranks are thinning. Would like to say thanks to somebody for mailing us a masterpiece of artistic endeavor^ the past week that made reference to Sox pitchers. Another item for our scrap book. The Marian eleven opens September 19 against powerful Aquin of Freeport on the McHenry high school gridiron. Pidtahee cu By Helen McMahon yl't was Saturday evening with the. ladies in their prettiest gowrtsrHfhe club hoyse beautifully decorated,, and delightful music to set the mood for the highlight of the Pistakee Yacht Club summer season. It was the Commodore's Ball, the occasion when the members honor the commodores, present and past. Preceding the ball was a cocktail party which was enriched by beautiful organ music played by Mrs. Albert ^EJarbiari. Mrs. William Marticke was in charge of the hc>rs d'oeuvre table which had a tempting assortment of delicacies donated by many women of the club. The decoratiohs, tastefully done in green and gold by Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nelsen, added a note of elegance to the party. Commodore and Mrs. Robert Mielenz expressed their appreciation for the cooperation and loyalty shown to them during the year. Sharing the spotlight with Com. and Mrs. Mielenz were the past commodores and commodores' ladies, Mrs. Harry E. Hoff, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond T. Waters, Mrs. James J. O'Connor, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Stacey Gifford and Mr. and Mrs. John E. Looze. Dr. and Mrs. William Nye, E n t e r t a i n m e n t C h a i r m e n , placed the major responsibility for the outstanding dinner on the shoulders of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll E. Dietle. They were ably assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hovey, Mr. and Mrs. William Marticke, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hartmann, Mr. and Mrs. "Albert Barbian, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Hayes, Mr. Mike Mielenz, Mr. Bud Huch, Mr. Gene Dietle, Mr. Kirk Merley and the Misses' Mary Ellen and Jane Nye, Sue and Mary Lou Pierson, Lynn Hartmann and Chris Nelsen. Treasurer for the party was Mr. Carl Janensch. The Saturday race was sailed in a very muggy, still atmosphere with Ron Schloemer, Y36, in 1st place; Don Looze, YIH, in 2nd place, and Norm Reese, Y27, in 3ro The regular Sunday morning race was sailed in a warm but sufficient breeze. The winner was Ron Schloemer, Y36, followed by Norm Reese, Y27, and Ray Olsen, Y6. While the sailors rested and refueled at lunchtime they watched the dinghy fleet race around the course. 1st place went to Henry DeYoung, 2nd place to Danny Arkema and 3rd place to Jacky Looze. The weekend was climaxed by the annual Pomierski Brothers' Championship Crew Race., It is this master-slave reversal that makes the crew's life worth living for this is when the. crew takes over the tiller and the whip. This race was sailed Sunday afternoon and before it was finished at least two boats turned over" and one boat was dismasted during the violent winds that preceded the downpour. The winners of these coveted trophies were: 1st place, Mrs. Bill Siater skipping Yl; 2nd place, Ron Leganger skipping Y36; 3rd place, Hetty DeYoung skipping Y27. Next weekend will be a change of pace when we get in full swing for the Western party. Besides the fine meal planned for that night and the usual dancing, there will be square dancing with the well known caller, Mr. Ernie Useman.
