ditir sday, August 27, 1959 THE McHENRT PLAINDEALER Page F!ts McHenry Country Club Golf News by Bussp Dale Adams is the 1959 Club Champion of the McHenry Country Club. Vale outlasted Tom O ' C o n n e l l , N o r m a n Knaack, Ed Buss Jr., Art Jackso^ and Frank Johnson to win th™ 1959 Club Championship. Vale has now won the Club Championship 9 times. No other person can even begin to match his performances over the years. Vale began his illustrious career by winning his first championship in 1937. He repeated in 39, 40, 41, 46, 48, 49, 56, and 59. In 1936, \nd again in 1938 he represented M^enry High School in the Illmois State High School finals in Champaign. He also played varsity golf at Lake Forest College. Vale naturally began to play golf as a caddy. He also spent considerable time with Leo Stilling who worked with Vale to develop the kind of a golf swing that I envy. Vale as well as being a fine golfer is also the kind ofrAa sportsman on the golf coffse that everyone connected with our club can be proud to say he is our Club Champion. In the combined 72 hole Class A & B combined tourney, Jack Moss emerged victorious edging out Tim Wheelock on th.e 18th hole. Dr. J. E. Sayler finished 3rd. Next Saturday Tom Evans and Ed Buss Jr. will play the fii^kls of the Past Presidents' Tourney. This coming Sunday will be the 1st 18 holes of the 36 hole best ball tournament. Tee times and partners will be posted on the bulletin board in the men's locker room Friday night for this event. Tax Facts The public aid program in Illinois ranks thirteenth from tne top in public assistance expenditures per inhabitant in the United States, the Taxpayer's Federation of Illinois says. The purpose of these tax supported programs is to provide subsistence grants for food, shelter, clothing, medical care and other necessities to needy individuals or families who lack sufficient money or other resources to supply themselves with these essentials at minimum levels of decency and health. Each individual - in Illinois pays in state and local taxes, on the average, $11.06 for such purposes or 18 percent more than the average United States taxpayer, who pays $9.34. On a personal income basis this amounts to 45 cents per $100 as compared with a national average of 46- cents. Illinois has 85 persons receiving old age assistance out of every 1,000 person® in th° state, 65 years or older, as compared with the national average of 159. As of May. thei^Barnber of recipients receiving public assistance is estimated at 373,- 136 or 3.80 per cent of the population in Illinois. To carry out public aid programs such as old age assistance, aid to dependent children, blind assistance. general assistance, burial awards and disability assistance, the 1957 session of the legislature appropriated $395,- 198,339 for that biennium. For the ensuing biennium j beginning July 1, 1959. appro- j priations of $384,137,800 were ! made for these purposes. Of these amounts, it is estimated that grants-in-aid from the federal government will total $136,500,000 and $158,750,000 : for each biennium in their respective order. j McHenry Plaindealei Phone 170 - 171 Published every Thursday at McHenry, 111., by the McHenry Publishing Company, Inc.
