When Chief Murray received the information, he was back in the village in Twenty Minutes with the offender who had NO driver's license and the car was not her own. Chief Murray regretted having to ticket the girl but his first comment was--the next time it might be a child!! We certainly think this man-- a father of four children--is worthy of being repsonSible for the protection of our youngsters and all of us. On the subject of the police, this reporter certainly feels that every member on the force deserves our thanks and appreciation for the job they are doing! And on many occasions, they receive boos instead of bouquets! With Regret, We Bid Farewell To Lena and Fred Eckhardt who have sold their residence ""-id are leaving on Saturday for the sunny state of Florida. The Eckhardts. who had purchased the Ed Walton home on Hickory Drive and Park View West some years back, have been exemplary citizens of the community and our loss is the gain of the south. We know that wherever they make their next home, the people of that region will have cause to celebrate. On occasions too numerous to mention, Lena was on nand with her time and talents which were devoted to making this a better place to live. And bv her side was husband, Fred, giving of his energy for the same purpose. Here's hoping that the incoming neighbors will have some of the same to offer! A farewell pinochle party was held at the home of Mrs. Elsie Nelson for Lena on Wednesday, Sept. 9. The beautiful centerpiece arrangement and other favors were made by a lady with nimble fingers--Mrs. Florence Larson. The oilier women included Alice Gustafson (doing fine with her driving), Edith Brendle and Wilma Zody. The gifts were displayed by sister of the future bride, Delores. bridesmaid, C v n t h i a Second Place for Softball Team In one of the most exciting games of the season, our "boys" took Hettermann's "to the cleaners" on Tuesday night, Sept. .8 to the tune of 9-6. Stu kutney started the ball rolling with a run in the first, inning. Dave Hansen followed with an "in the park" home run with two men on. Hettermann's fought bravely and tied the game but our team got the best of them and emerged victorious. Since this series was the best out of three, another game was scheduled for Thursday night. Unhappily--this score was recorded at 12 for Hetter mann's and only 6 for McCullom Lake which puts them undeniably in Second Place. But look what the White Sox have done with that position! Next year--the trophy will come to our fair community. Young Future Bride Is Feted With a guest list too long to mention. Miss Phyllis Piotrowski and her handsdme future groom, Mr. Dennis Straumann, are becoming aware of their coming nuptials. We are referring to the shower held for the happy couple at the American Legion hall on Sunday afternoon with some fifty gals in attendance. Nick Huff and George Brda set out bravely over the Labor Day weekend for the fishing haunts of Yiorthern Michigan. They left on the previous Friday and ^arrived home on Tuiesday-- much the worse for wear and tear. They were completely and thoroughly "rained out"! Between the drops they man-' aged to bag a few small ones, but most of these were consumed on the spot!
