Michaelis, Route 3, McHenry. recently participated with the 39th artillery in "Exercise Side Step", a NATO command post exercise in Germj* iy. The ten-day exercise was designed to determine unit effectiveness under simulated combat conditions. Michaelis, a cannoneer in the artillery's Battery A in Nurnberg, entered the Army in October, 1958, and completed basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Oct. 22-29, Nov. 5, 1959) OBITUARIES LORETTA SCHIMKE Last rites for Mrs. Loretta Schimke, 57, of Indian Ridge. Wonder Lake, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Matz chapel in Chicago, with burial in Montrose cemetery. Previously, the body was at rest at the George Justen & Son funeral home in McHenry. * Mrs. Schimke died at her home Sunday, Oct. 18, after' a ten-year residence at Wonder Lake. Survivors include her husband, Walter; a son, Walter, Jr.; her father, Robert Domke, of Hartland; and a brother, Harry Meyers of Chicago. FARM BUREAU WOMEN SECOND IN TRAFFIC SAFETY The Illinois Farm Bureau Women's committee has been named by the National Safety Council as the second-place winner in the statewide category of the 1959 Carol Lane Awards for Traffic Safety. She. died last Thursday, Oct. 15. Mrs. Salemme is survived by a daughter, Colette Bennett; five sisters, Mary fatangarone, Anna Vito, Rose Romano, Clementine Lavarre and Helen Carrane; three brothers, Joseph, Anthonv and Enrico; and six grandchildren. FRED H. SHAET^CN Fred H. Shaettgen, formerly of Huntley and more recently retired and residing in Florida, died Oct. 8 in that state. He was a brother of Arnold Schaettgen of McHenry.
