Senior Citizen Under Goes Surjjery Monday Oct. 19. Stanley ^Jhoblewski under went serious leg surgery at St. Theresa's hospital. Stan and his wife had ju<=t celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Please say a few extra prayers for his recovery. Highlander Elected Treasurer of Cerebral Palsy Chapter Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Van- Severn, always a very ardent v^rker for any worth cause has been elected treasurer of the McHenry chapter of the Cerebral Palsy chapter, and is already very busy trying to secure more volunteer workers. Anyone interested may call Marilyn and she will be happy to see you get to the next meeting. The chapter meets the first Tuesday of every i^jrn th. News of Your Friends and Neighbors Little Cliffie Krumwiede was d;*eharged from Victory hospital, last Tuesday, after several da.vs of confinement, due to bronchial pneumonia. We are happy to say, he is doing fine and well on the road to recovery Mike Contra has closed the road on top of the Broadway hill entrance that leads to the Johnsburg--road:--Maybe--thisvvill end the long controversy about this road. It was a shorter route to the surrounding areas, but it was a very bad road in need of repairs. Mrs. Lillian Orlowski was happy to have the company of her sister, Nettie, and niece, Mrs. Flynn, from Trevor, Wis. They spent the weekend with them last week. It must have been too much for Lillian, for she slipped and fell, fracturing the bones in her instep. She is wearing a cast and will be confined to a wheel chair from five to six weeks. Loraine Lindemann left last Sunday to return her grandson, Larry, to his home in Lansing. Loraine will spend a few days with her daughter.. Marilyn. Seldom do we rend of the thoughtful things the 'Teens do. and it is a pleasure to report the nice things. Last week the Axel brothers, Dfrrel Davidson and Joe Missbach, freely offered their services to. Jim Bures to help move the school bus shelter. It was in a very bad location, and it has been moved to a better vantage point, right near the store on the black top. The boys did such a wonderful job, they deserve a vote of thanks from the parents. A hearty welcome to the C. H. Coons family who recently bought the home located on 308 Broadway. They are settled and enjoying the Highlands. Blanche Haefliger has offered her services as volunteer worker for the new Mental Health Clinic. We hope there will be many more. Ruth and Jim Lemnons spirit last weekend in Rollo, Mo., visiting Ruth's sister. Betty Kennedy and family Let's all pay our association dues so that fomething can be done with the roads that get in worse condition every day. Marge Morelh and Vi Schuble attended the Woman's auxiliary to the McHenry hospital luncheon last Tuesday. Kay Sielisch and Gert Snell signed up as new members. All the girls who attended enjoyed the luncheon, and the speaker, Kay €lancy--Metz, gave a most einlightening and inspiring talk. Darlene Neesan attended the Woman's Republican meeting at the V.F.W. hall in McHenry, last Tuesday. The Pitts family is moving back to Chicago Nov. 1. They find it is too hard living so far away from their family and friends. Mrs. Karwacki has been confined to the McHenry hospital for the past week. Shower Held Oct. 22 A baby shower given by Marilyn Lammert, Lee Conway and Hazel Morley was held for Barbara Sisk at^ the Morley home last Thursday evening. Barb was surprised by her many friends. She received many useful and lovely gifts for the soon expected baby. On hand for the evening were Ma• liyn Van Zevern. Jo Shively, Dot Erbin, Cnrla Bales. MeGee Cluga, Dolly Novotny, Tin1 O'Mallv, Wanda Dobecki. Betty Sandelin, Mrs. Laverne Madock, Janice Janquart, Marcia Dowd and Lillie Hovseth. Here and There A very happy anniversary to Martin and Hazel Rogde who celebrated twenty-nine years of married bliss on Oct. 28. We hope you share many more years together. Hazel Morley enjoyed the company of her mother-in-law and Dick's two sisters, Helen Rainey and Glenda Paschke, from Round Lake Park last Thursday. Lee Conway and Marilyn Lammert spent last Tuesday shopping in Waukegan. Marilyn passed her driver's test and is taking advantage of getting out and around. Dot Erbin and Janice Janquart spent last Wednesday visiting with Dorothy's mother and sister in Skokie. The girls enjoyed a nice luncheon. We are happy to report that Mrs. Richtcr is home from the McHenry hospital after her recent surgery. She is feeling much better. She served some delicious refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Sommerfield and family from Bensenville were Sunday guests of Ed and Virginia Thoren. George and Marilyn Van- Zevern spent eight enjoyable days vacationing in New Orleans. While they were gone Marilyn's mother was on hand to care for the children. After their vacation was over Marilyn flew home while George went on to Texas on business. Dolores Formella has joined the McHenry choral group and will take part in their Christmas program. Dave Schimps is home from the Air Force and is getting acquainted again with his friends and neighbors. Frank Geu is still in the hospital following the accident that injured his eyes. He is steadily improving and hopes to be home soon. Ron Spankuch is home from the hospital but will be on crutches for about a month to six weeks. • A group of our older 'teens attended the record hop last Saturday evening at the American Legion home in Fox Lake where T V. star Jim Lounsbury was host for the evening. If anyone has any news they would like in the column we will be happy to take any you may have. Just call Haze or Kay. Teen News We are happy to say that McHenry defeated Barrington IS to 13 in their recent football game. The installation dance which was to be held for the teens was cancelled because Mrs. Rockel lacked the help she needed to prepare it. Last Monday night there was a 'teen social up at the barn. Your 'teen reporters ask that movc^of you turn out to these socials if possible. The new officers and reporters had their nicti;res taken at the barn last Saturday evening. As the nominations Ghosts and Goblins It won't be long now and we will be haunted by all sorts of ghosts, witches and goblins. IS, nominations for officers for the coming year were stand now these are the youths seeking office. President, Barbara Beamer and Ken Thoren, vice-president, Bob Beamer and Craig Thorsen, secretary, Shirley Spankuch. Also nominated were Bob Fletcher, Mac McDonald and Dennis Banker. COAL PRODUCTION Illinois coal production during September was the highest since January, it was reported last week to Gov. William G. Stratton by the Department of Mines and Minerals. The 3,966.- 915 tons mined during September is second only to the 4.23S.- 466 tons mined in January. In his report to Gov. Stratton, Director Ben H. Schull, said that September production c a m e from 112 mines. They produced ! 32(1864 tons more than in August and 227.491 tons more than September, 1958. The industry employed 9.977 production workers in 56 strip mines and 56 underground mines. Production through September totals 32,426,674 tons. Two fatal accidents occurred in Illinois mines during September. Two men were killed in a Schuyler county mine as a result of a roof fall. This makes eight fatal accidents during the first nine months of 1959.
