DOG, NEIGHBORS HEROES IN FIRE Eve Levesque Mrs. Bertha Lee gave the first alarm for the fire which destroyed two homes in the village and seriously threatened two others, hers included, last Thursday morning. A perky little black cocker spaniel named Trixie and quite a performer, deviated from his role of the perfect house pet by leaping on his master's bed and causing enough of a disturbance to rouse him and his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Liacas of 723 Orchard Drive were awakened from sound sleep in time to give valuable assistance to Mrs. Monica Morris and her seven youngsters. Mrs. Morris had just purchased her home from the Mc- Creedys and moved in on Nov. 7. Thanksgiving Day will mark the first anniversary of her husband's death. All their furniture had already been moved into the Scotella residence and there remained only the redecorating to be done before they "'would take possession. Firemen battled for hours to control' the flames which blazed through the Erban residence. This was necessary to protect the home of hardworking Mrs. Bertha Lee. There is no visible signs of . damage to her home. Though the fire has taken its toll in property damage which will probably never be recovered, it is a grateful community that realizes no one was injuried. Two Lives United In a heart warming ceremony at St. Patrick's church on Saturday, Nov. 21, " Mrs. Nada Costa of Orchard drive became the bride of Mr. William J. Klapperich of McHenry. One of the groom's sons, John, and his family reside on Maple Hill Drive. For the morning nuptial, Mrs. Costa wore a street length dress of poudre blue brocade satin with a jacket ana" chose white accessories and clear plastic slippers. Her Corsage was of white roses. Mrs. Roseal O'Connell of McHenry attended the bride as matron-of-honor while the groom's son, William B. Klapperich of Hunterville subdivision served in the capacity of best mam Immediately after the senice. a wedding breakfast for the newly united couple and the immediate family was served at Hettermann's in Johnsburg. An open house reception was held at Mrs. Costa's home in the afternoon. In the very near future, the couple will leave for Miami. F;a.. to spend about two months, including Christmas and New Years. They plan to stay with Mr. Klapperich's daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Mix of that southern city. * We are especially happy for Mrs. Costa who will be acquiring a ready made family of children and grandchildren as a result of the union. After publication, it will be mandatory for all drivers to stop while the school bus is receiving or discharging students, either in the village or on the blacktop road. Drivers of vehicles must also come to a complete Stop at all stop signs. According to the amendment, no one under the age of sixteen is legally allowed to dirve a car! New Baby Carol, Alan, and Karen Kennebeck spent a few days in Chicago last week with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Gamperl. The occasion for this mid-week visit was to welcome a new nephew and cousin for the Kennebecks. This little guy is something special because he is the Gamperls' first and he is adopted. You never saw a more happy couple and aunt. Congratulations to the whole family on this new addition. Visitors The Lakowskes entertained Betty's younger sister and brother-in-law and nephew, Robbie, for the weekend. Larry and Donna Rosenthal are from Stevens Point, Wis. After the sunny southland, its a flight across country for a visit in New Jersey. Some of you might have seen our Tom Burke shaking hands with Governor Stratton the other day on a TV newscast. The occasion was in Springfield at the dedication of the four new airplanes that will be used for air observation of speeders on the highways. Tom, a state trooper, is qualified to man one of the new planes. Important Dates For Gus Smith, don't forget Helen's birthday, Friday -- also Helen and Pat Simonsen, Carl's birthday will be next Monday -- and while we're on dates, the McHenry Shores club meets Thursday, Dec. 3 at the V.F.W. nail. Out of the thirteen, Marilyn Moore had the bad luck of getting her car stuck\in the ditch and had to have a tow truck get her out. While on the subject of tow trucks -- Dolores Stark had to have the assistance of one % other day when she slid down a hill backwards in her car while enroute to town.
