Although the majority was in favor of increasing the dues, a two-thirds majority vote is necessary to change or amend a by-law. Thirty-nine votes were polled for the change and twenty-one against dfcnging. One ballot was improperly marked. Important Dates . Just News The Boy Scouts want to thank everyone for their generosity in helping to make their campaign-fund drive a success. It seems like the bowling bug has caught on as Art Cicchini, Bob Dobbertin, Ray Olszewski, Jack Schmitt and Clarence Schweikert spent an enjoyable Sunday afternoon knocking down the pins. Clare was the winner of three games out of the four played. There is talk of shaping up a team or two. Remember it is your column. ACT ON LICENSES The Secretary of State's office has announced the revoca1- tion of the driver license of Victor R. Goad of Harvard for driving while intoxicated and the suspension of the license of Donald E. Gray of Woodstock for three offenses. A Delightful Surprise Two young girls, Linda Baker and Margaret Karas, gave a surprise party for Mrs. Baker, honoring her birthday, which was on Nov. 27. The birthday party started at 8 p.m. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Ferwerda, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, both from McHenry, and Mr. and Mrs. Karas at whose house the party took place. The two hostesses, Linda and Margaret, served appetizers, cake and coffee. Barey Baker acted as host at the party. Everyone enjoyed it and Mrs. Baker was quite a lurprised lady. Honor Roll Those students in this community who have had their names placed on the "A" honor roll are as follows: Margret Karas, Charlene Thornton, Susan Farr and Connie Ritter. Roberta Connelly had her name proudly placed on this 'B" honor roll. Congratulations! Keep up the good work. Happy Birthday Beverly Eggert reached the ripe age' of seven on Dec. <5. Linda Kopsell celebrated her twelfth birthday on Dec. S.- Little Steve Fantus will blow out five candles on Dec. 10. Joyce Redmer's eye lit up when he saw his one candle burning. He celebrated his first birthday on Nov. 28. A belated birthday greeting to Bob Wijas who turned 17 on Nov. 30. Happy birthday to all of you and many more. Those present were Kathy Flynn, Marilyn LoPresti, Mrs. Bellino and her daughters, Josie and Debbie, Rose Sirio, Mrs. Belford, Mrs. Hueckstaedt and her daughter* Saurie, and Kathy Polinski all of Lilymoor; Mrs. Cameron; and daughter, Judy, of Wauconda; Karen and Nancy Reinke of Wonder Lake; Mrs. Pope: and daughter, Dorothy, from Ringwood; Virginia Gray and Pat Mays of Lakemoor; Rose Felicetti and her mother, both of Sunnyside Estates; and Betty Gladu of McHenry. COURT BRIEFS Another case of shoplifting was reported in McHenry this past week. A 13-year-old girl from the area was arrested about 4:45 o'clock Friday afternoon for taking items from a Green street store. She later admitted the theft. The girl was Jjrdugm before a justice of the peace on Saturday, at which time she was put on probation. It was her first offense. The trial of an Algonquin boy arrested recently for shoplifting and arson in a Green street store was held this week. The youth was put on a year's probation and given a suspended fine of $100. His family was instructed to have him continue under a doctor's care. Two arrests were made for fighting on Front street, and the 'teen-agers involved were fined $20 each. One driver was fined $10 for having a noisy muffler. Dedication of Marian Central Those who attended the dedication ceremony of Marian Central Catholic high school in Woodstock on Sunday were inspired by the beauty of this modern building. The huge gymnasium was filled to overflowing at the Pontifical Mass held at four o'clock by Bishop Lane. There followed a reception in the cafeteria and a tour of the class rooms. Safety Rules On Holiday Lighting Growing more popular each Christmas is the custom of lighting and decorating the home to extend holiday greetings to neighbors and friends. Both the inside and outside of the home offer limitless pos-' sibilities for expressing the spirit of the season in brightness and color. A doorway or window, for example, may be simply framed with strings of incandescent lights. Other lights may be used to outline a gable, eaves or fence. Floodlights in different colors are effective for illuminating doorways, Christmas cutouts, or shrubs and trees. There also are numerous readym a d e o r n a m e n t a l c a n d l e s , stars, bells and other lighting devices to enhance your home-, size "greeting card." Whether your home decorations this year are simple or ornate, they should be safe. Before use, check all lighting sets, cords and sockets for worn broken or frayed parts. Keep all lights disconnected while you are attaching them to trees, the house or decorative props. In trimming the tree, take care to keep metallic objects away from electrical connections. Don't plug too many lights into one outlet. Remember that the average branch circuit is fused for 15 amperes and can handle about 1800 watts. If an overload blows a fuse, reduce the load. Never replace a blown fuse with one of higher amperage. Outside the house, only weatherproof lighting equipment and heavy duty rubber extension co^s should be used. The best source of power for outdoor lighting is a permanent outdoor-type receptacle with a protective cap or lid.
