Dot Hayner has been holding the Brownie meetings in her home, Last Tuesday she let the Brownies spend a pleasant afternflpn ice skating. Feb. 2, she held the meeting at her home and the girls worked on their invitations for the birthday party of the Girl Scouts to be held Feb. 9 at the community center. Roy and Gert left Saturday to spend the weekend with Roy's brother, John, in Oaklawn. We would like to ' extend birthday greetings to Joyce Heir who celebrates Feb. 16, Toots Spankuch, Feb. 17, Virginia Thoren, Feb. 18, and to Bill Schlick who celebrates his birthday, Feb, 20. Kay Sielisch was, very sad to receive word her nephew, Mike Ensign, 5% years old, was rushed to the.hospital in Cadillac, Mich., suffering from fheumatic fever. He was so lively when she was home news of his illness was a shock. Kay Sielisch hopes to clean up the Johnsburg rescue squad building fund drive. Kay reports the workers have done a wonderful job and she is most grateful to all of them. Terry Phillips, who is still confined to a wheel chair but attends school every day, has been developing his talent for drawing. Some of the sketches he has nvrle are remarkable. Plans are being completed and we will keep you posted as "to the date and details. The children expect a big turnout for the affair. So all you children better brush up on your Ping-Pong. The parents are beginning to worry about the children and the ice on the channels. We hope the children keep away from it so there will be no tragedies falling through the ice. Marilyn VanZevern has been spending many hours working on the Polio drive. Honored at Shower A surprise baby shower was held last Thursday evening for Tina O'Mally. It was given by Barbara Sisk and Lilly Hauvseth at the Hauvseth home. Also showering Tina with gifts were Joan Zillegen, Terry Pfingsten, Mrs. G. VanZevern, Mary Madock, LaVerne Madock, Jane Peloquin, Pat Pederson, McGee Sluga, Eleanor Brill, and Debbie Granger. Coffee and cake were served. Sick List Dickie Morley, Sherri, Billy and Jimmy Barron were all down with the measles last week. Dot Erbin and Janice Janquart had a bout with the flu bug last week. Dot Forslin was sick last week with a badcough and sore throat. We hope you will all be feeling better soon. Here and There Audrey Morin's father, Mr. Anderson from Chicago, spent a few days here last we£k visiting with Audrey, Don and the boys. - HappV birthday to Marilyn (Bob) VanZevern who will celebrate her birthday on Valentine's day, Feb. 14. Lorraine Lind&nan and La- Verne Madock spent last Wednesday visiting with LaVerne's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis, at Pistakee Bay. Jeff Dowd was admitted to St. Therese hospital last Friday and had his tonsils removed Saturday morning. We certainly hope he is feeling good as new again. Mr. and Mrs. Ris'to spent last Wednesday in Chicago. Barb and Reb Sisk were among the many guests at the home of Betty and Bob Flint in Antioch. They had a wonderful time ice skating. Lois Mason was a patient at the McHenry hospital, for three days last week. She ' is home now and' feeling much better. Marge and Bill Moreth spent last Wednesday in Chicago. They visited with their, son who is in the hospital. On Feb. 7, a big birthday party was held for Lola Du- Pree in honor of her eighteenth birthday. It was given by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Risto. Many of the Highlands 'teens were there to wish her a happy birthday. Jack Rielly's sister. Doe Mochel, spent five days visiting with Jack and Kay. The girls had planned to do some 'bummin' but as luck would have it, Doe came down with the flu and Kay had the role of "nursemaid." The Bales, Novotnys and Erbins helped Don celebrate his birthday with a surprise party at his home last Sunday. Reed Bales was thrilled to receive a beautiful new bike for his sixth birthday. The Ullos attended the wedding of Joe's nephew in Chicago la£t Saturday. Don and Wanda Dobecki and Jim and Carla Bales enjoyed a Chinese dinner last Saturday evening at the American Legion in Fox Lake. They ate the whole meal with chop sticks and did pretty well. On Jan. 31, Elaine Schuble celebrated her twelfth birthday with some of her friends. Enjoying the refreshments were Alannah and Collene Callender. Rita Harbecke, Karen Lowery, Nora Havlik and sister, Maureen. Skating' Party -The. 'teens will have their skating party on Feb. 20 starting at 4 p.m. Mrs. Cletus Mayer has given permission for the skaters to use her garage to keep warm and also for a dance in the evening. This party is for anyone who would like to attend, not just the 'teens. Fun Fair Articles for the white elephant sale are needed for the fun fair on April 9 at the Johnsburg school. If you have anything for the sale Mrs. Klotz will see that it is picked up. There will be a cake booth and games for all. Food will be .served and loads of fun in store for all. Don't forget April 9. The rates filed with the Department of Insurance affect insurance companies that are represented by the Illinois Bureau of Casualty Insurers, the second group to announce reductions within a month. Gov. William G. Stratum's announcement on Dec. 23 of a drop in automobile insurance rates was the first since 1945. T^his rate decrease, effective Jan. 25, 1960, brought a saving of more than $4,715,000 in dollar cost to Illinois motorists.
