However, he finished third in a final elimination round. Matt is 19 and is majoring in engineering. He resides at 119 Washington Street. The Dundee Evergreens, behind Johnny Paul's 43 points, defeated McHenry 107-74 to win the Northern Illinois Amateur basketball league tournament at Dundee high school gym. Cary placed third with a 90-84 victory over Woodstock. The Evergreens jumped off to an early lead in the championship game and never were headed. Besides the 43 point output of the remarkable Paul, Jerry Hopp and Don Hendricks connected for 14 points apiece. Roger Benson and Art Beck led our attack in the championship game with 22 and 21 | points respectable. Jack Schae- | fer was the only other Mer- ! chant player to score in double j figurers with 14. In the semi-final contests, i the Dundee Evergreens adj vanced by downing Cary 80- 166 and McHenry won a late i 83-81 decision over Woodstock j on two free throws by Schaefer i in the last three seconds. Gib ; Kurts was high point man of j the game with 37 points, Jim I Judson, also of Woodstock, scored 26 points. Don Bentz again had a big night with 31 I points. John Huff scored 17 ' points, Roger Benson 16, and I Jack Schaefer 12. McHenry i had to rally in the last period to win this game. McHenry (88) The 14th annual Forester basketball tournament, being played in McHenry. is off to a flying, start and heading toward a big day next Sunday. As in all first rounds, some games were close and some were lopsided. The competition tightens from here on to the finish line. In the heavyweight division. McHenry defeated DeSota of Chicago 67 to 55. West Brooklyn ed^ed Hampshire 35 - 33. Johnsburg's No. 2 team beat St. Gregory 51 to 44. The redhot ttfou 1 Johnsburg team rolled over Peru to the tune of 102 to 38. The Peru Seniors had enough to spare over LaSalle 49 to 34. In the Ranger group, St. Gregory' No. i smothered Elgin 58 -9. "The Marathon is a real test of men and machines. Possible club runs will be to a rally at Shanno, Wisconsin, and to a hill climb at Muskegan, Michigan. Other runs will be held to field meets, scrambles, and road runs of Northern Illinois Motor Cycle Association member elubs.^ Also after various meetings, scavenger hunts and lime bag runs will be held. If you now ride quite a bit. are just learning how to ride or are just a little bit interested in cycles, it may pay you back in fun. enjoyment, and satisfaction to learn more about our club.
