It sounds rfodr wholesome to be entertainving but from the reports of taose who have already indulged -- you won't want to 'miss it!! The proceeds from the affair will- go to the Cullom- Knoflft building fund. While the luflcheon is pre- ' pared by professional caterers, most of the work and serving will be done by our own community women. Tne public is invited and if you are without a ticket -- these' may be purchased at the door. Women from all the surrounding communities are also cordially invited^ to attend. "When a Feller Needs a Friend" Last week at the time of our b e r e a v e m e n t -- o u r e n t i r e family, the Olsens, Schultzes, and Levesques -- needed the comfort of our friends and we trufi^received it! The many thoughtful acts and gestures --- too numerous to list in detail -- made our loss that much easier to bear. Grateful appreiation to all the villagers and to everyone in the surrounding area for the kind expressions of sympathy. Mama was certainly beloved by all who came in contact with her, judging from the many offers of help^Nuff said? This reporter would like to express special thanks to the Plaindelaer for the wonderful way in which they handled the coverage of the story. Music was supplied by Mrs. Edward Guettler at the organ. After the ceremony, a buffet luncheon was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Patzke for friends and relatives who gathered to rejoice with the couple. After a fast trip to their home here in the village, to deliver their wedding gifts, Walter and his bride left for a Florida honeymoon. They plan to return about the first of April. Congratulations and best wishes to these two fine people. Village Notes (Many thanks to Mrs. Elma Nelson who acted as scribe at this meeting in the absence of your reporter). At the last meeting of the president and trustees held on Monday, March 14, in the beachhouse, - a motion Was made and passed to Conduct a soil survey on Orchard drive before the actual work commences. This procedure was recommended by our engineers, W. A. Rakow Associates, to prevent any breakage of the road the first winter. Road commissioner, Don Parenti, also, reported that two new street signs have been purchased. A resolution was adopted by the trustees to extend our arterial streets and Lake Shore drive from Orchard drive to a point 350 feet east of Clover Hill drive was so designated. McHenry's city planning was discussed and a map of our village will be forwarded to that city, so the boundaries will be definitely established, and prevent any chance of future overlapping. The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited. preme vGourt District of Illinois. Mr. Levesque, as Republican precinct committeeman, was selected as a delegate and was accompanied by forty-two other delegates and several alternates. The delegation of men travelled by bus and returned the same day. Lack of the Irish That direct descendant of the "old sod", Bill Brennan by name, wasn't feeling "up to par" on March 17 but bowled with his group anyway managed to chalk up a high game of 249 and a series of 628! Imagine what would have transpired if he had been in "top form"! Maybe 300? Bill was battling a touch of the ol' flu. Junior Citizens Congratulations to Col. John C. and Ethel Fox for the gift of their two brand new Americai^ citizens. Their adopted daughters, Alberta and Roberta Fox, were naturalized in Chicago on Tuesday, March 15, at an impressive ceremony. Further details appear on the front page of the Plaindealer. Best Wishes to the Newlyweds Walter Patzke of 613 Fountain Lane is alone no longer. On Saturday, March 12, Walter tW>k as his bride, Mrs. Adelaide Sewell, in a lovely afternoon ceremony at Zion Lutheran church, McHenry. The Rev. Carl Lobitz officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her son, Dr. James E. Carney and was attended by her very good friend, Mrs. Helen Keippel, as matron of honor. Serving in the capacity of bri^smaid was Mrs. Paul Patzke, the wife of our faithful mail carrier. Paul Patzke served as his brother's best man and Irwin Wolter ushered. Refreshments were served and the next party will be held at the same place on April 9. Welcome Home To "b?g brother" Ted Olsen, a captain in the U.S.A.F., who flew home last Wednesday, to attend our mother's funeral. The entire family was so happy that he could make the journey. Ted returned to his home at Travis Air Force Base, on Monday, compliments of the Navy! Brother-in-law, Jake Levesque, arranged for passage for him on a plane which was leaving for Oakland, Cal., that day. Wife, Dorie, and four siblings were delighted to have their boy home again. Stimulating Events A clothes dryer and a piano were on the "wishing list" for Ann Matthesius whose birthday was yesterday, March 23. Knowing Fred, she'll probably wind up with some new clothespins and a tusk of ivory! Congrats to Nancy pBurg who is 12 today, March >'24 and to Mary Kantorski whs isn't telling! Friday, March 25 is the second birthday for wee Sylvia Fernandez and natal day for Mrs.. Alice Gustafson. It will be 17 years Wed for Marge and Ed Stacknick on Saturday, March 26 while Master Mark Hanson will turn 12--also on this date. ELMA GILKERSQN Funreal rites for Mrs. Elma Gilkerson, 62, a former McHenry resident, were held Saturday afternoon from the Warner funeral home in Crystal Lake, with Rev. M. J. A. Dalrymple officiating. Burial was in McHenry County Memorial Park cemetery. Mrs. Gilkerson, who resided with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, in Crystal Lake, died on the afternoon of March 16 in McHenry hospital after several months of ailing health. The deceased was born July 20, 1897, and was married in Marengo April 8, 1916 to Earl Gilkerson. They had resided in the county for twenty-six years, eight of these in Crystal Lake. Besides the widower, she is survived by a daughter and a son, Mrs. Barbara Jones and E. Carney Gilkerson, both of Crystal Lake; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Two brothers, Clifford and Glenn Carney, and a sister, Flossie Meuser, preceded her in death. Members received their tickets for the party to be held May 20. Tickets may be obtained from any of the members or may be purchased at Casey's. Money will go to finance future projects of the club. The club, organized last summer as an outgrowth of the baseball team, has four officers, Rich Wyczesany is president; Adrian Uelman, vicepresidont; Wayne Malz a h n. •treasurer; and *• William Schmidt, secretary. Unexpected Vacation Our high-schoolers received an unexpected day off from school last week when their school bus developed motor trouble somewhere in Island Lake, on the morning run. The repairs were made after a wait for help, but it was decided that the youngsters might as well go home. The bus brought them foack into the subdivision. On the Honor Roll Congratulations to Tommy Landis, BeCky Hughes and Oleyar, for achieving honor roll status at the junior high. Mark and Judy Laskowski are listed on the high school honor roll. Mark is a freshman and Judy a senior. Each troop will have its own table to display its accomplishments during the past year. Among the projects our Brownies will show are their girl scout songbooks, and the place mats they mado for the Woman's Club Christmas party.
