Allan P. Colby, an old time resident of the vicinity, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bernard Harrison, Monday at the age of 87 years. FORTY YEARS AGO Taken From the Files of March 11, 1920 Christopher Stegemann, who made McHenry his home for almost half a century, passed away Saturday at the age of 84. Sometime during Saturday night or Sunday morning, a break in the water gates at the mill pond occurred and before the damage could be repaired on Monday, most of the water had passed out and down the creek to the river. R. W. Gracy, who on various occasions conducted a picture show in this village, and is still interested in the Gem theatre at Crystal Lake, which is operated by his wife, was killed in a mine accident at Lovelock, Nev., last Saturday. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Gracy, who reside on a farm near Terra Cotta. Miss Mary Monroe of River Forest has been engaged to fill the vacancy made by the resignation of Miss Marjorie Gurnett at the high school. C. W. Goodell and O. G. His ready wit and quick smile were warm and reassuring. There can be a spark of joy however, in our sadness, in the ^fact that Bill and his beloved Marcella lived each moment of their lives to the fullest. Even at the time of his death they iwere enjoying a winter vacation in the sunny south, which was their custom every winter. They were on their way back from this season's excursion when the fatal attack struck in Baton Rouge, La. Their daughter, Mrs. Betty Lockwood of Detroit, Mich., joined her mother immediately upon hearing the news. She found Marcella in poor health with bronchial pneumonia and the doctor ordered her to bed afe soon as she returned. We Miss Ruth Nye sang over the radio from station WSBC in Chicago Monday evening. She has a pleasing radio voice and no doubt her friends will have another opportunity to hear her in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Krause were surprised by a group of friends ait the home of Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Klontz Sunday evening in observance of their thirtieth wedding anniversary. Shall the maximum animal tax rate for the educational fund of School District No. 34, McHenry County, Illinois, be established at .913 per cent on the full, fair cash value of taxable property as equalized or assessed by the Department of Revenue, instead of .703 per cent, the maximum rate otherwise applicable to the next t£$*s to be extended for said purposes?
