If Page Twenty-Four THE McHENRY plaindealer .ItcHenry Shores COMMUNITY STRIVES FOR CIVIC PRIDE , py Clare Mueller, EV. 5-0r>.»8 ^Now that spring has finally blirst out in all its glory, tlie subdivision ronds back to normal after the sudden thaw and the mailboxes broughKup to par (or are they?), more thought should bo given to the ; qjipcarancr of McHenry Shores $8 a community. VAll of us, while out searching tor a new place to live, were captivated by the simple i luxury of the Fox River flow- | ing past this delightful area, i and. to those of us who came later, by the beautiful well , kept homes a n d landscaping 1 that had been added by the new home-owners. • Some of the folks here are of the opinion that McHenry ' 'Shores will always remain the 1 - same as that first impression. ' But. with growing pains, will ] it? The majority of the homes j and gardens will be kept up ^ and some will exceed others in continuing the theme of beautiful surroundings. Now, what is to happen to the land allocated to the community for recreational purposes, will it fall by the wayside to be a detriment and eyesore to all? The answer is no. Not if we all cooperate to keep it in order during a period which will be assigned to the men shortly. It will not take too much of an effort to devote a few hours out of the 366 days this year , to take your turn at the beach ; to help clean it up and keep it in oider as our assigned period comes %p. In the past, quite a few wives ; have come down and helped with this light work, so if your i wife is not in favor of you lending a helping hand, remind her of this, take the tongue lashing, which I'm sure won't be the first or last, and share ! your civic duty similarly to the women who bake the cakes that are served after a MSC meeting. Under "civic pride", the road markers with reflectors were installed on Barreville road to •serve a dual purpose; 1 -- They are caution reminders to the three way traffic. 2 -- Are -jdeal markers for night entry into tho subdivision as most of us are row using theso roads becpi'.se of the bad condition of the county kept road. Idvll pell. "In writing of "civic pride". I how about repairing your pier, 1 if'you ti^ve one on the channel j or if you have no further need | of it and it is iiuneed of repair, j, pull it up on snore for safety sake. Don't wait for a minor disaster bpfore doing something about it -- do it now remember. If we strive together. we'll Keep M<?Henry Shores out in front. Your efforts now, in years to come, will be a pleasant memory of a job well done. Say, come to think of it, this kind of "civic pride" will increase your resale property value too.
