We scored two, runs in the first on a walk to Denny Freund, a triple by Roger Ben- MCHS HOST TO COUNTY TRACK MEET NEXT WEEK Varsity Events To Be Under Lights Wednesday, May 25 The thirty-sixth annual McHenry County Track Meet will be the largest since its beginning, with 9 schools competing. McHenry will be host to this meet for the first time. The Frosh-Soph meet will be held Monday, May 23 at 3:30 p.m., and the Varsity meet will be held on Wednesday, May 25 with the preliminaries at 6:30 p.m. and the finals at 8 p.m. This will be the first time the varsity meet has ever been held under lights, There will be an admission of 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students. Several records are expected to be broken including the Mile and the High Jump. Rick Lally of Crystal Lake is the top contender for the Mile record of 4:42.8 set in 1938, he has already gone under this with a time of 4:38* which he ran at the Districts. Tlie High Jump record of 6' %" set in 1939, stands to be beaten by Mike Creighton of McHenry, whose highest jump of the year WARRIOR BASEBALL TEAM LOSES TWO GAMES PAST WEEK had so y,many readers. Woodstock, lost his life at 2:07 Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree on Country Club road, just east of Rt. 47, near Woodstock. Radtke. a truck driver, is survived by his wife, Phyllis. Coach Ray Meyers Of DePaul Sparks Lively Program A large number of McHenry area people attended the Marian Central Catholic high school basketball and spring sports banquet Sunday night in Marian's beautiful and spacious cafeteria. The guest of honor and speaker of the evening was Coach Ray Beyers, famous and highly successful basketball coach at DePaul University the past 18 years. A winning smile, sparkling stories and sound advice blended to make Coach Meyers' talk most interesting. Leo E. Olcott was chairman of the program, placing the Master of Ceremonies job in the capable hands of Eugene L. O'Brien. Louis Yegge gave the introductory remarks. Father Eugene Baumhofer, well known to McHenry sport fans, limited his time in a welcome address, but was in his finest form with real punch in his remarks. There will be practice laps before the races as soon as the ambulance arrives, probably at 12 or 12:30 p.m. The races will begin promptly at 1 p.m. There will be 5 or 6 class races depending on the number of riders who enter each class. If . 6 or more machines enter in one class, that class will be run. There will be 3 heats of 5 laps each for each class. The proceeds of this race will be given to the Mental Health Center for McHenry County. The McHenry Warriors baseball team went to Crystal Lake, Wednesday, May 11, and lost their first tournament, game 8-4. Bill DeCicco, who allowed eleven hits, got the loss. Paul Moreriz drove in two runs to lead the Warrior attack. Crystal Lake: 8 Runs - 11 Hits. • McHenry: 4 Runs - 7 Hits. Dundee Wins 1-0 On Friday, May 13, Dundee came to McHenry and dealt a heart-breaking loss to the Warriors. The sicore was 1-0. Frost of Dundee was the star of the game, allowing only three hits on the ijnound while striking out twelve. CRYSTAL LAKE NINE BEATS TIGERS OF JOHNSBURG 11 TO 8 Crystal Lake ruined Johnsburg's 1960 debut with an 11-8 £efeat. Johnsburg's- chances were hurt by eight errors and timely hitting by the Crystal Lake team. Spasovich, Johnson and Peacock helped Crystal Lake's hitting attack with seven hits. Johnsburg was unable to get an attack started until the late innings, scoring two runs in the eighth and thee runs in the ninth. Dick Hiller led Johnsburg hitting with three hits. This Sunday Johnsburg travels to Richmond to play a strong Richmond team. The game will begin at 2 p.m. and everyone is invited to attend. Let's see some fans out backing the Tigers.
