The food was delicious and there was plenty for all. .Sister Alberta Marie's girls did a very nice job on the favors' which were figures of graduates fashioned from crepe paper. It sure is surprising the c l e v e r t h i n g s t h a t o n e c a n make from crepe paper. , Patrol Picnic I sure hope the future patrol picnics will have better weather than they have had last year and this year. The picnic this, year instead of being held in the park in Woodstock had to be held at the Moose Hall because of the rain. So I'm afraid most of the kids were disappointed. Where there's a will there's a way to get through traffic-- or so some drivers mistakenly think. Lane weaving, and attempting to squeeze past other cars in heavy traffic are two of the most common accident producers according to the Institute for Safer Living. Take it easy in heavy traffic. Choose a safe place and a safe time for changing lanes or passing.. IN McHENRY IN RICHMOND PUBLIC PULSE (The Plaindealer invites the public to use this column as an expression of their views on subjects of general interest in our community. Our only request is that writers iimit themselves to 300 words or less and that all letters have signature, full address and phone number. We ask, too, that one individual not write on the same subject more than once each month."** We reserve the right to delete arty material which we consider libelous or in objectionable taste.) CHAOS IN PARIS I would like to submit- a voice from the wilderness and chaos which has existed in Paris, where they all cry peace and there is no peace. There is only one reason Mr. Khrushchev had the courage to insult our president. This, in my opinion, is the reason. Our politicians, in their zeal to get into the White House, do not take into consideration the effect their tirades have upon this country, when they tell the American people that we are weak, behind Russia in brains, cannot keep up with Russia because her scientists arfe smarter and better. No one in Europe likes us any more. They do not stop to think that if they ever do win with that kind of abuse, there won't be any country left to rule over. What then can we expect from a dictator who knows no opposition and recognizes this as a weakness,'not being able to suppress those who are responsible. Remember the old and tried slogan, "United we stand, divided we fall". Mrs. Nettie Sarley SEEK WAR MATERIAL A state-wide appeal to unearth Civil War letters, diaries, pictures, maps and other memorabilia was issued by Gov. William G. Stratton to all Illinois citizens. "With the Civil- War Centennial years just, around the corner," the governor said, "the finest contribution any citizen could make would be to turn over to a local historical society or to the Illinois State Historical society in Springfield, letters or diaries or other records of their ancestors who fought in the Civil , War or . . . who stayed behind-to help keep -the home fires burning." Dr. Clyde Walton, executive director of the Illinois State Historical Society^ in Springfield, urged that any families owning records pertaining to the Civil War contact their own local historical society or the state society at once. "But do not send any materials or records without first writing us a letter about what you have," Walton added. The Bible states 'Man is made that he might have pleasure' but many people forget that' they may find pleasure within their own minds (introvert, rather than extrovert). So the identical Economy Run car went right on to 14,110-foot Pikes Peak--and right up to the top of that savage mountain, on April 15, still deep in winter's snow and ice.
