Four THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, June % jAs Dick Jagcr always says, "Stick with em!" Dick refers to our White .Sox, who are not acting like champions at the present time. After the Sox lost a double header on Memorial Day we had to meet too many people. It was necessary to go into the Plaindealer office the next day. Marie Yegge was busy phoning, but mentioned that she wanted to see us. Sure, she did! We stayed too long and who -liftould walk in but , Herb Reihansperger. ,'Now, aside from being a Cub stalwart; and American League berater, we think Herb is a fine fellow. But, just at the moment we would just as soon have seen the devil himself closing in on us. next Sunday, June 5. at 5 p.m. on the c<ty diamond. Don Kinsala is managing our Grads and Fred Peterson is working hard to help promote the league. What the boys need most at this time is financing. They need sponsors at a nominal cost. This is an important age group--boys who are too old for smaller leagues and not ready for the big fellows. Watch these boys play ball and you will want to play ball with them. We tried to get into our car unnoticed as Huppy Smith hollered a few "encouraging" words from across the street. DAILY PINUPS Singing the blue^ is the surest way to wreck yoUr whistle. MCHS VARSITY PLACES SECOND IN COUNTY MEET Mikje Creighlon At His (Best As Track Records Take Fall DUNDEE D. PLAUCH HOLDS TIGERS TO 4 HITS IN 6 TO 2 WIN The Johnsburg Tigers forced to play their Sunday game in Dundee because of wet grounds at home, met a fine Dundee team and were beaten 6-2. The The Johnsburg Tigers haven't been the Tigers of old this year, but they wove their magic around the Shamrocks in a very good holiday game, 5 to 4. The rest of the day went fair to middlin' until Ed! Doyle again watched his chance to wave us down. Darkness soon Tigf?rs home opener was put ..ell and our triP down town for at "jeast another week, was uneventful. j-)on p]auch pitched a strong game for Dundee, allowing only four hits. The game started out as a pitcher's duel between Don Plauch and Ted Schaeffer. With the score 2-1, with Dundee ahead, Bernie Schmitt tripled and tied the game on a sacrifice fly by John Huff. In the eighth inning, Dundee broke the game wide open by scoring four runs on five hits and in the ninth Johnsburg was unable to get back in the game. The Tigers have a couple of games scheduled this week with a Saturday afternoon game against a fine team from the Chicago area, and Sunday afternoon they will play a league game against Algonquin. Both games will start at 2 p.m. Let's see some good crowds out backing the Tigers this weekend. Dundee (6) AB Sonny Miller pitched for Johnsburg and went all the way in spite of some rough moments. The bases were full of Shamrocks in the ninth when Tom Huemann went back from third base to haul Sonny was so happy he ran way out to shake Tom's hand. Jim Wickencamp . pitched great ball for McHenry and took his loss like a real pro. Jim has had some shoulder trouble, but was a real fine pitcher in this game. With the diamond slow from So much rain, the infielders (with the exception of Lloyd Freund) played in pretty close. A,, step or two bacl^ might Jh8ve helped McHenry infielders. . Gene Freund hit One of the bjest blows of the game, a double into the wind. And that Was quite a wind. We thought the outfielders did real well. ; A good, close game like this one should bring out a rousing cyowd when the two teams ifeeet again. •j Roger Benson and Gene Freund did a lot of work on the diamond and things are Raping up fine. They moved Sod, set up the base paths and ftade the diamond look sharp. D. Plauch, p Rejesdore, ss R 1 0 Eddie Buss is handing out Cards with the National League Schedule. Gene Freund, Jack Schaewer, Denny Freund, and Roger Tinder each had two hits. Gene Freund had the only extra base hit of the game, which was a double.
