Many things of interest to the whole chapter were discussed at this time. For every human on earth to have 2,600 calories per day (the established minimum for good health), it would take TWICE the amount of food produced yearly in entire world. And yet, the world's population is increasing by some 100,000 per day (excess of births over deaths). It looks like" many will have to go hungry. POLLEN COUNT Daily readings of the ragweed pollen count in the Springfield area will begin this month, according to Dr. L. L. Fatherree, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. The pollen measuring device, a weather-protected apparatus permitting air to move over a vaseline-coated slide, is located on top of the statehouse. At 8:30 a.m. each day the pollen-collecting slide is microscopically examined In, the laboratory. The windborne pollen is then estimated on a cubic yard basis, and the report made for the previous 24-hour period. While many types of plants disperse pollen, the major offender is "ragweed. A count of 25 or 30 for one^y can mean real trouble to hay. fever sufferers. Most hotheads, - also hav.e cold feet. DR. HENRY FREUND OPTOMETRIST At 136 $.
