McHenry's Little League All Stars, champions of area four, travelled to Freeport last Friday evening to do battle with lhat city's All Stars for the District 13 Championship. Free- , port got one run back in their j half of the inning. In the fifth • inning Ken Frost's homer, fol- , lowing Jackson's second hit, | gave McHenry a 4-1 lead. Rain j interrupted play for about ten I minutes. It was a welcome ! sight with McHenry holding a :three run lead. I Everyone agreed that man- ! ager Art Jackson, and his j coach. Gene Adams, did a very | fine job with the team. The loj cal fans are proud of the Lit- ; tie League All Stars for their i accomplishments in the tournaj ment. Some thought I that an intentional pass was i in order, but there is an unwritten rule as old as baseball itself. "Never intentionally put ; the tying or winning run on base" All were in accord that , the team and their manager and coaches acquitted themselves very well. Tom Oeffling completed his finest all a round, performance of the year as he had 2 more hits to add to his double and triple in the first game at Johnsburg. Ho was joined by Dick Miller who also had two hits. Loren Freund came in in relief and pitched good ball to gain the Victory. Kramer. Whitey, and Bill Huff had two hits apiece to lead the Richmond attack before one of the finest crowds of the year. It must be said that Richmond, apparently used to their home field, used the "crops" in the outfield td good advantage. They hit three balls into the relative security of the "tall grass" and as a result" came up with two doubles, a triple, and. a home vun. The longest ball of the afternoon was hit by White of Richmond, but, he was thrown out at home plate due to some swift defensive work and a fine relay by Ronnie Madden to the catcher. Bill Huff had a homer when the Johnsburg outfielders literally lost the ball in rightcenterfield. Much credit should be given the Richmond ball club as tHey did hit the ball hard all afternoon-- besides the "lost causes" already mentioned. They just couldn't get a big inning going or combine their hits at the right time. Johnsburg scored five in the second on two'hits, two walks, a sacrifice, and two errors. As a result of this victory, Johnsburg finished the regular season, play with a record of 10-4 in County League competition. Crystal Lake took first place with an 11-3 wonlost record. The playoffs are next in line with Johnsburg and Dundee scheduled to meet in the first round. Johnsburg (9) AB R H R. Wadden, ss 4 1 1 L. Freund. 2b 5 2 1 D. Hiller. rf 5 2 2 M- Freund, c 2 1 0 T.
