Lee thirty-nine red roses to remember each year. Later . they went to midnight supper. Octogenarian Celebrates Mrs. Olive Bartolai, mother of Lee Glorch. celebrated her eighty-fifth birthday Aug. 5. She received many cards and gifts. Relatives and friends joined her for a quiet celebration. The highlight of the affair was a visit from her sister, Theresa Steffen, of Berwyn. They are the last living members of their family. Junior Teens About thirty junior teens had a day's outing at Cedar Lp.ke. Swimming and picnicking were enjoyed by Doris, Dojrothy and Patsy Rehberg, Kenny 'Owens, Elyse Garland. Judy Reining. Maureen and Michael Lianne, Craig, Sharon and Debbie Leigh, Susie and Pam Laurence, J o h n Hickey, Marge Parisi, Elaine Pisecki. Mike Maholick, Donna Kwaitek, Jim and A1 Kujak. Donna, Phil and Denise Busaro, Joe Koerper, Barbara Murphy and Mary Therese Sweeney. With them as chaperones and drivers were Mrs. Bucaro, Mrs. Rehberg, Mrs. O w e n s , M r s . K o e r p e r , M r s . Hromec, Mrs. Laurence, Mrs. Leigh and her aunt, Mrs. Dugan, of Detroit, Mich. plus five, spent their vacation at the family cottage in Oxford, Wis. Daily adventures were found in the Dells, Devil's Lake in Baraboo, Wis., and Castle Rock, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kamp. Danny, Ronny and Cindy, of Home avenue, L.S.. went on a camping trip to Bennett Springs. Mo. It was a first experience for all but fully enjoyed. Bud and Dorothy Uttich. Mary, Tommy and Katie spent a leisurely week in Shawno, Wis., swimming and fishing and playing bridge with two other couples, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Zanzow and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Flanagan, and Miss Linda Uttich. a niece. Among the three couples were seventeen assorted children, the oldest be;; ing 12, without ONE fight. Jean Parisi was in Garden Grove, Calif., for seven weeks w i t h d a u g h t e r s J a n i c e a n d Francine. They were visiting with Jean's sister and her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Rossini, who have been frequent Visitors in L. P. Palm Springs and Catalina Island were highlights along with other usual tourist attractions. Belated Birthdays Belated birthday greetings to Miss Hollie Koehl, who extinguished six candles on her cake on July 20. "*s Three in a row in the east section of L. P. And all three the same year too! The three best friends who just turned 6 are Lance Kuhns, whose birthday was July 25. Robby Wickencamp, whose birthday was July 26, both on Clearview, and July 27 was Billy Burns' birthday. Dear Mother Mrs. Sweeney of Home avenue is trying to be a helpful mother to another mother. She found an extra pair of child's shoes on her lawn tind after phoning several friends ard neighbors still hasn't found their owner. Vacationers Back at home after a week's vacation to Crystal Lake, near Cable, Wis., are Nellie and A1 Koppa with loads of fish tales. They made the trip with Nellie's sister, Helen and her husband, Ed Early. They had beautiful weather and caught enough of those finny creatures to provide thrills and a few meals. Delores and Jerry Rogers, Visitors At the home of the William Humphreys are Dorothy's parents, Mr. and Mrs. McGouirk, from Atlanta, Ga. They are staying for a month. Miss Linda Lundorf and her grandmother. Mrs. Mary Christenson, of Chicago, have been visiting at the home of Beula and Arbie Hoard. Last week was hectic with the arrival of much company at the Burmans'. Visiting were Joan's aunt, Mrs. Agnes Eichelman, and her cousin, Mrs. Jeanne Fougerousse, who in turn brought her five children, Jeanette, John, Jim, Jeff and Jerry. Accompanying the group was Joan's mother, Mrs. Marie Leirevaag, who stayed for several days. Visitors at the Rogers home were Mr, and Mrs. Martin,. Rogers and seven children of Glen Ellyn, and Mr. and Mrs. William Rogers and three children of Algonquin. Both fellows are Jerry's brothers and Mrs. Martin Rogers is Delores' sister too! Visitors with Bob and "Rita Idstien are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Waymel, of Chicago, who are spending their vacation with them. Open house with John and Reggie Knebel at 104 S. Meadow Lane this week -- so it seems. Wednesday an old girl friend of Reggie's whom she hadn't; seen for twelve years, stopped in, Mr. and Mrs. Kurcz and their three children of Chicago. Then Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Werosh and three children of Palos Heights visited and soon after came Mr. and Mrs. Webb and their two children of Grand R dge, 111. Saturday evening visitors of Richard and RoseMary Vera were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Shiba of Chicago, Rich's butjdy. Out fQr the weekend at the Ed Bock home were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hooker of Chicago. Dorothy and Bud Uttich added another chapter to their vacation with the arrival of her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Klomann, who will ispend a week spoiling their grandchildren. Welcome- To Mr. and Mrs. Hurley of 200 Willow Lane Lakeland Shores. Sympathy To Larry Strandquist and his family on the death of his brother, William Strandquist, of Brookfield on Monday. Birthdays Happy birthday to Mike Ladd. son of Mr. and Mrs. David Ladd, who was one year old Aug. 4. A surprise party was created when the Gerstad kids came to sing "Happy Birthday." Happy birthday to Francine Parisi who turned 11 Aug. 9. A very happy birthdav to Lorraine Arient on Aug. 9. By this time she will have been surprised, we hope, by all her neighbors. Surprise Shower A surprise baby shower was held' in honor of Mrs. Joe Parisi at the home of Mrs. Sam Parisi on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Jasper Parisi was cohostess. Leaving Gayle speech- Less were Rosalie Slonina, Jean Parisi and Janice, Fran Cina and Josephine. Joan Bucaro and Bonnie, Frieda LaCerfta, Marge Parisi, Ann Hujcke. Myrtle Terek,,; osephine Parisi, Vera Parisi, Marion Parisi, Helen Parisi, Kathy Brunswick, Antoinette DePriest, Marie Sac, Mary Ann Boozan, Mary Palermo, Dolly Mysleviec. Mary Ann Cholewa and her mother, Ruth Richmond arid sisters, Janice, Nancy and Beth. Gayle received so many nice gifts. Annual Reunion An annual office reunion was held at the Ray Franklin home when Marge's old working pals. Mrs. Siwek and family, Mrs. W. Eichinger and family, both of Bensonville. and Mrs. J. Eiden and family of Chicago spent a pleasant day with, a swimming, barbecue and visiting. There were nineteen children present. „ Notice Now that the Lakeland Park Boys' Baseball club is a charter organization, the officers, managers and coaches have gotten together to go ahead with plans for the boys for the forthcoming year. On Oct. 8. at 8:30 p.m., the club will hold its first annual dance at the V.F.W. hall, so all you wonderful people get your babysitters lined up and come to the dance and make it a great success. The Indians and Tigers played at L. P. The game held everyone's interest 'till the 4ast man but had to be called because of darkness and will be played at a later date. Score was Indians 7--Tigers 7. Well, you will have your chance on Aug. 28. There will be a parade; speakers and everything that goes with open house. The men have proven very worthy and I'm sure we all know how wonderful Ihey respond when needed. There was a lot of volunteered labor that went into this building plus your contributions. Weekend Trip Joe and Elizabeth Metzger and their two children spent last weekend in Ohio visiting relatives. Visitors It is nice to see Millie Mondl home again. She had a surprise birthday pulled on her by Vern's family while in the hospital. Happy anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ericson. APPROVE $60,000 FOR FUTURE WORK ON RIVER DAMS Gov. William G. Stratton has approved the expenditure of $60,000 to be used by the Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings for contract work in. connection with the improvement of Fox river at the Geneva, South Elgin and Yorkville dam sites. Work, is in progress at Geneva and Sbuth Elgin dams and work is beginning at Yorkville. The project ,for which the 71st General Assembly appropriated $2,100,000 includes construction or reconstruction of a series of dams in the Fox river for the accommodation of recreational navigation, stream control and conservation purposes in Kane, Kendall and La- Salle counties. Construction of levees, walls, utility alterations, appurtenant work and land and flowage right-of-way acquisition are in the proposed plans. ' Oswego dam i n Kendall county near Aurora is the next part of the improvement to be constructed. Three more dams at Montgomery, Sheridan and Milhurst are in the blue print stage. The oldest standing protestant. church in U. S. is St. Luke's Episcopal, at Smithfield, Virginia, built in 1632. Plan Hew Post Office At Lake Postmaster Paul H. Eberle, Wonder Lake, said this week he has been advised by the office of Postmaster General Arthur E. Summerfield that the Post Office department is now asking for bids tj build and lease to the department the new post office for Wonder Lake. Closing date for the bids is Oct. 17, 1960. "This proposed new building" Postmaster Eberle said, "will replace our present post office and will provide expanded service for our community. Specifications call for a structure containing 2,300 square feet with an outside loading platform and adequate space for parking and truck maneuvering." The postal department holds an assignable option on a 11.- 385 square foot lot on Hancock drive between East End*-drive and Wonder Lake drive. The successful bidder will take over the option, purchase the land and build to departmental specifications. Postmaster Eberle said he has been advised that the Post Office department will enter into a lease agreement with the successful bidder which will run for ten years, with renewal options running up to twenty years. Bids should be submitted, the postmaster advised, to the Real Estate Specialist, Post Office Department, Main Post Office, Chicago 100, 111. The Real Estate Specialist will supply information with regard to bidding forms, building specifications, lease provisions, etc. V.F.W. NEWS The Walter Casey house was a busy one when Mr. and Mrs. : Marvin Hine and family of ; Casper, Wyo., came to visit, j Mrs. Hine is Mrs. Casey's sister and they hadn't seen each other in six years. Mrs. Casey met her brother-in-law for the first time. We were happy to welcome the 5th district inspector, Ernie Stone, of Lake Villa. A delicious barbecue lunch was served after the meeting. The post is preparing for several big events coming up in the near future, with details at a later date.
