Well Liked Resident Dies Mrs. Mabel Balassa of Agatha street died, on Aug. 20 at the McHenry hospital'. She was well liked by all who knew her and cMMren would stop their play to stop and talk to tor. She loved children and eney knew at. Mrs. Balassa - is survived by a son, Stanley, of the same address. Burial was held at the Ftidgwqod cemetery last week. St. John's The Blessed Virgin Sodality of St. John's church will hold a bake sale on Sept. 4, after the 7 o'clock mass until noon, ijnyone wftro wishes to donate any items for the sale it will be gratefully ipiocepted. Women's Club The Pistakee Highlands Women's club set Oct. 1 as the date for its rummage and bake sale. It will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the barn. They are asking for clean useable articles of cA»thing, also knick-knacks, household items or anything else you may have laying around taking up space. 'Teen News The 'teen club hay ride SatliWay night was a huge success. It was held at Gerry Thelen's farm with Janet and Barbam Wilson, Sandy Mursay, Ruth Gabriel, Gloria Waldin, Phyllis Gyondla, Shirley Spankueh, Beverly Peterson, Bud Messel, Craier Thoren, Eddie 'Brzozowskl, Rtcky Hauck, Bob Fletcher and Butoh Mueller attending. Afterwards a party held :in -E4die Brzozovvski's basement, The club would like to express its thanks to Eddie for the use of his basement and especially to Gerry and Marilyn Thelen for the use of their wagon arid tractor. Gloria Waldin is having her friend, Phyllis, visiting her for awhile. Gloria will return with her i&r a week in Chicago, jirbana Wlson is having her ?nd, Sandy Mursay, visiting Around the Highlands Janice and Jerry Janquart entertained weekend guests from Grand Haven, Midi. Ruth fend Johnny Lori and their sons, Allan and Carl, spent a pleasant time visiting here. Jerry and Johnny are old school chums from Milwaukee. Jo and Herb Shively also entertained guests over the weekend. I am sorry to report that LeFtoy Snell hasn't been feeling too well. Marge and Bill Moreth had their daughter-in-law, Hazel Moreth, and two children visiting for four days last week. Michael Conway is back at his grandmother's in Chicago, This i£ about his third trip this summer. , Last Wednesday evenng Reb and Barb Sisk, Don and Wanda Dobecki and Jim and Carla Bales attended a summer stock play in Highland Park. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mclnerney attended the wedding of Ardelle Oeffling and Ronald Oon way on Aug. 27 at St. John's church. Later in the evening, they attended the reception. Happy birthday to Danny Sabielny who was one year old on Aug. 25. The family celebrated with relatives in Chicago. Mrs. Irene Kolan celebrated her birthday on Aug. 21. A dinner party was given in her honor at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Ron Wiggernam, in Pistakee Terrace. The Roy Sluga family returned from their vacation last week. They were gone for two weeks and spent it in Independence, Wis. on Roy's mother's .farm. While he was there Roy had a wonderful time baling hay and combining grain. On the way home they stayed over night in Madison with Roy's brother, Everett. According to Roy. this was the best vacation he ever had. Ed Thoren returned to work this week. Mrs. Zenner was hostess to her friends and neighbors last Tuesday evening when she held a 'home party'. Congratulations to Tom and Lois Mason who celebrated their eleventh anniversary on Aug. 27. Jim and Carla Bales attended the wedding of Harold and Bev Bichler in Port Washington, Wis., on Aug. 27. The new Mr. and Mrs. Bichler will move into their home on Woodland avenue after their honeymoon Their home was previously owned by the Smolinskis. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Provo and four sorts were recent guests at the Masons. Tom took bis guests for a boat ride while Lois ba'by sat. Happy birthday to Mark VanZevern who will be seven years old on Sept. 4. He will have a party with his neighborhood friends. Congratulations to Lill and Leo Orlowski who celebrated forty-eight years of wedded bliss on AUg. 19. I am also pleased to report that Mrs. Orlowski is home from the hospital where she spent several days. Herb and Lorraine Lindemanfi spent last Sunday visiting friends ait Twin Lakes. They had their granddaughter, Susan, along and She had a grand time Hiding on a horse. Herb is on vacation and catching up on some chores around the house. 1 Mrs. Clara Sielisch is-spending a few weeks in the Highlands with her son, Wally and daughter-in-law, Kay. Lorraine Hurckes entertained two girl friends last we ok in her home. They were from Skokie and Park Ridge. On Aug. 20, Jim and Ann Mclnerney attended a reunion of some old friends in Mt. Prospect. The gathering was held at Ann's sister's home. Those on hand to help Renee Janquart celebrate her tenth birthday on Aug. 26 were Janet Thoren, Karthy Mason, Nancy Jorgensen, Barbara Krause, Janice Erbin, Linda Dobecki and sister, Jeanne. Wanda Dobecki's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly, spent last weekend visiting here. A surprise personal bridal shower was held in the home of Kaithy Mclnerney on Aug. 28 in honor of Pat Tomasello of Johnsburg. Hostesses for the event besides Kathy were two of Pat's bridesmaids. Miss Elizabeth Herman spent her vacation in her home here and will soon resume her nursing duties at a hospital in Chicago. While she was .here her two brothers and their families were out for a visit and a cook out. A surprise party was held last Saturday evening for Dick and Lee Conway. Hostesses for the evening were Janice Janquart, Lois Mason and Hazel Morley. The party was in honor of the Conways' moving into their new home. Joining in the "fun and wishing the Conways well were the Heinemans. Erbins. Slugas. Novotnys and Barrens. Y.M.C.A. Mount Hope Church The message for Sunday, Sept. 4, will be, 'My Father Worketh and I Also Work'. Rally day will be Sept. 11. Most everyone is finished with vacations and the church attendance should pick up. We are happy to welcome Pastor Hagerty back after his well e a r n e d v a c a t i o n . Baseball Champs The major league finally was able to play its big game last week and the Dodgers beat the All-Stars 3 to 2. So our Little League season is over for another year. Forty women were present to surprise this .young lady. She was presented with a beautiful corsage to wear for the evening while she opened all of her lovely gifts. Games were played and prizes were awarded to the winners. A tasty blueberry punch was served followed by a delicious dinner.
